Ah, love to see that message boards are still bringing out the best in people.
MTV certainly delivered on the spectacle, but that may have been the most confusing, frenetic, roller coaster-y, production-deficient awards show I’ve ever seen. But kind of worth it for that Chris Brown performance (and I don’t even like his music.)
I just read MTV wanted to focus more on the performances than awards. WTF??? Then why is it an award show, and why only show us 30 seconds of performances?
Also I found it funny they kept building up to the end with ‘the biggest performer’ of the night and it was JT and Timbaland, who we saw perform earlier…MTV will be leaving Vegas with its tail b/w it legs today
MTV thought it was a good idea to simultaneously play 3 or 4 concert-type performances in different suites and squeeze them in the award show. They don’t even give a d@mn about television viewers. Not everyone watches TV and browses the laptop. Frankly, I don’t understand what their format is. MTV thinks they’re cool by doing $h!t like that but it was horrible. Next time, show the whole performances ON TV. We don’t mind sitting for 3 hours as long as the Foo is playing complete songs…not cutting it for commercials!
This online comic about Britney’s performance makes it seem almost, um, funny:
Britney’s performance was a little bit funny, but mostly sad.
Rendered more funny in this online comic, though!

I think the powers that be at MTV have totally drifted away from the greatness they used to be. As they try to “act hip”, they keep alienating more and more people. Pretty soon the channel will soley be just one big informercial channel, 24 hours a day. More videos, more concerts, LESS reality shows and cartoons. How about bringing back hosts to present videos doing interviews, and having good shows like Unplugged come back to life? Too much to ask from you guys on the top? It seems that you guys are no better than politicians…rake in the money, but forget about the people that put you there.
At the risk of detracting from the Britney meltdown, I just want to remind everyone that the Foo Fighters are HIV deniers, and are doing the world a disservice by claiming that AIDS has nothing to do with the virus known as HIV. I’ve boycotted FF ever since 2000, and encourage everyone to do so until they renounce their association with the propaganda group “Alive and Well.” http://www.motherjones.com/news/feature/2000/02/foo.html
since everyone here is against MTV I think EW should take a stand and boycott all things “The Hills” and “Laguna Beach” otherwise they have no right to criticize the show. Yes that means the TV Watches, EW, so please don’t be a ratings whore like MTV
next year on the 2008 vma’s…they need someone to acknowledge this year’s vma’s was somehow all a bad dream…I give britney’s performance 1 and half stars…
FYI: “Make It Wit Chu” is a Queens Of The Stone Age song, not Eagles of Death Metal.
I wanted to see the VMAs only to watch Britney fall on her face (from what I’ve seen it was a poorly-received luckluster performance… eh, close enough) and of course to see the Foos, but I was busy rockin out to Dinosaur Jr at the Mezzanine in SF (I got the setlist! WHOOO!!)
From what I’ve discovered , the real show was what wasn’t aired (for the very most part at least); The Foos, Serj, Josh Homme, Mastodon, Cee-Lo and effin’ LEMMY all in the same room, AND Kid ROck and Tommy Lee get in a brawl?? TREMENDOUS call on that one, MTV. Sure hope you’re still comfortable letting dimwitted chimps organize your programming (like any of this should surprise me at this point…).
Britney’s bad performance should be blamed on not just her overall suckiness, but on this guy-her choreographer.
