What TV show do you know you hate (without ever watching)?

Categories: Television

Psych_lAll week long, I’ve been basking in US Open tennis coverage on USA — that Venus Williams-Jelena Jankovic match was a doozy! — and the only drawback has been enduring the barrage of ads for the network’s dramedy Psych (starring Dulé Hill and James Roday, pictured). In the spirit of that sappy old Savage Garden song where they sing "I knew I loved you before I met you," I know I hate Psych before I’ve watched it.

Is it wrong that I’m judging a show based on its promos alone? Sure it is! But if I can’t endure 30 seconds of Roday’s "look at me being wacky!" mugging — and Hill’s wide-eyed fustiness — there’s no way I’m subjecting myself to a full hour. (Unless all of you gang up on me in the comments section and demand it.)

In the meantime, I’m curious: What’s the one show you know you hate, even though you’ve never watched it? I know, I know, you’ve got a whole top 10 list, but let’s all try to be super selective and limit ourselves to a single pick. Ready, set, kvetch!

Grey’s Anatomy. I just hate it. People are *always* talking about it. “On Grey’s last night…” or “oooh Grey’s is on tonight!” etc. etc.
I’m sure its a decent show for so many people to watch it, but I just hate it on principle.

I’m going to have to say the show that just happens to be the banner ad on this site right now, “It’s always Sunny in Philadelphia.” There’s no way I would be able to stand Danny DeVito through an entire episode of that show. The new commercials, spoofing the mac ads, make me want to punch my TV.

Criminal Minds. Too many clones, not enough distinguishing it from the rest.

  • Adam

Easy. It begins and ends with Grey’s Anatomy. BTW, shame on EW for giving Private Practice the cover for their Fall TV Preview issue. If ever there was a new show that didn’t need the extra coverage, it was that one.

  • Marci

    Grey’s Anatomy

  • Deb

Ditto on Grey’s Anatomy. I never bought into the hype. And Psych is a good show, not great, but a fun watch.

  • Ryan

Are You Smarter Than 5th Grader… They cancelled The OC for this???

  • Lesha

I just watched Psych for the first time on a little mini marathon…loved it! I know I’d hate any CSI/Criminal Minds/Cold Case kinda show. They are no Law and Order

Chuck Chuck Chuck Chuck Chuck. And Chuck. I want to smack that guy’s face.

Psych is really not a bad show. Dule Hill is worth watching in anything. And they have a nice banter.
Pick any show on E! for hating without watching. Ditto any celebrity reality show.

  • bj

you should watch pysc it is a good fun show. The show i hate not to watch is and will foreever be AMERICAN IDOL Never saw a episode never will

  • Alex

The ad for the new show, Moonlight on CBS. I loathe the ad in which the cocky vampire lead gets interviewed. Terrrrrrrrible. I want it to get canceled so badly.

  • aymzer

    according to jim

  • Rick

Psych is probably my favorite show now. Fun to watch, and my whole family will watch it together.

  • Kurt

BTW: The secret to liking Psych is to think of it as a take off of old 70’s mystery shows like Columbo. But it doesn’t take itself seriously so it works.

  • Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

Hooray! Gigantic Media Conglomerate builds unfortunate family new home and exploits their misery for ratings! YAY! Plus, I want to kick that Ty Pennington in the shins.

I thought i would be the only one saying this (im so happy im not)
    GREY’S MOTHERFLIPPPIN ANATOMY
just watched my first episodes of PSYCH today, and its really, really FUNNY! who knew?!

  • Matt Schmieding

YOU’RE SO WRONG, PSYCH IS HILARIOUS!!! The show continually makes me laugh in how the main character messes with people and gets away with it. I even let my 50 year old Dad watch it when he was in town and he loved it! Give it a chance for sure.

  • BW

Anything with Ron Livingston in it.

  • Danny

DAY BREAK. how many times did ABC show that promo??

  • T-Diddy

Hey, give Psych a shot…it’s really fun! You’ll love all the random pop culture references. The plots are average and forgettable, but the references are priceless!

  • freeme

    Most definitely Grey’s Anatomy.

  • Kirby

Does seeing the stupid pilot/Grey’s episode count as seeing Private Practice? I hope not, because that show is just a bad idea.
    The Simple Life.

  • Sweet Sixteen-That crapshoot from MTV

Please daddy- buy me that car that I probably will never have to work a day in my life for! I tooootally deserve it since like..I am mean to people at school, I am most definitely dumb as rocks, and I find it fun to revel in other people’s struggles! It’s really, really hard like to be so rich and not deserve anything I have…really hard!!

  • Michelle

I will add my votes for Grey’s Anatomy and American Idol. Also, CSI anything and 24. Loves me some Keifer, hated the concept from the beginning.

  • Cathi

Psych is a pretty cool show – respectable follow up to Monk, cant’t wait to see Cane cancelled, the overdose of promos are making me ill

  • Robert

Slezak – give Psych a shot. It’s much better than the promos, or the opening credits.
I’ve never seen a second of the show, but I know that I hate Criminal Minds. Why? Because the world didn’t need another procedural, and I choose to pick on this one.

  • EP Sato

HOUSE. I’ve always hated that actor, and can’t stand his smug band of loser/ rogue Doctors. Why is that show a hit? It seems every episode preview is another game of “name that rare disease”. That guy is such a wierdo and the concept of the show seems painfully asinine to me. Why is House such a hit?

  • Erik Smith in Santa Maria

The Celebrity Rap show on MTV? Seriously, this is what they put on the air?
