PopWatch Bulletin: Watch 'Jackie Woodman' on Sunday!

Laurakightlinger_lIf you’re not watching the second season of IFC’s scathingly funny The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman, then I ask you: "Why not?" (And don’t tell me it’s the show you’ve never seen, but inexplicably hate!)

Seriously, Jackie Woodman is the kind of show that would be snapping up Emmy nominations if it had the marketing muscle of HBO behind it. Series stars Laura Kightlinger (pictured; she’s also the show’s creator) and Nicholle Tom do boozy, bawdy comedy with a zest not seen on the small screen since AbFab’s Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley. And unlike their Sex and the City predecessors, Kightlinger’s Jackie and Tom’s Tara have moments of tragic un-hipness: They’re mid-level Los Angeles wannabes, and their clothes, their apartments, and their cars (or lack thereof) reflect their lot in life with painfully delectable accuracy.

Anyhow, with Flight of the Conchords‘ debut season all finished, and with 30 Rock still weeks from its sophomore premiere, I implore you once more: Check out The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman, this Sunday, at 11:30 p.m. EDT. If you can’t wait till then, check out some selected clips at the show’s official site or the opening credits (after the jump)! I’ll check back Monday and we can all discuss.

Hell yeah, this is a great show! I don’t have IFC, but recently watched the first season on DVD. I’ve always loved watching Laura Kightlinger, but who knew the chick from “The Nanny” could be so funny?

This show is HILARIOUS. Definetly the best comedy of the summer. I never miss it.

Michael, I remember the first time you mentioned this show, right after the Comeback got the boot. I really wanted to watch this but who has IFC? what is that anyway?

  • Kurt

I wonder if they are ever going to bring back that killer who lives in Jackie’s complex from earlier this season.

  • Dio_K

    I just set the DVR.

  • Lori

I’m so glad you have given this show the props it deserves! A very wild and wickedly funny show. I wish IFC were more widely available so that more people could watch this show.

Much to my surprise, I have IFC on Satellite. So I’ll check this show out Sunday night. The web clips were rather funny, but not nearly as over the top as AB Fab (from what I saw.) The throw away comment “She’s my fluffer” killed me and I’d really like to see these two gals have some scenes together when completely stoned. See you Monday, Mr.-Zak.

Okay, this is so strange. My friend has been harassing me for like a year to watch this show. I finally looked it up on the IFC page, programmed my DVR and got my first episode (with guest star Sally Kellerman) this week. What… am I just barely sliding in ahead of this article, possibly making me slighly more hip? Hmmm?

  • Stef

Wow I consider myself a tv junkie couch potato extreme, but I have never heard of this show. I am so uncool!

Michael, I would love to take your advice, but I don’t get IFC, alas.

so glad you are mentioning this…This show is hilarious. We tivo it everyweek. In addition, Laura and Nicole are dressed to the nines..love the wardrobe. Best episode this season was the first one about lesbians. This show ROCKS!!!!

  • Friday

just noticed you mentioned un-hip clothes…not anymore! new wardrobe this season and they look HOT.

IFC is the independent film channel, usually grouped with the HBO package that comes with Encore. It’s channel 209 on my tv

  • Stephen

Slezak, I usually love your posts, but after this you realize you need to watch Psych to not be a hypocrite right?

So ased on this popwatch I watched the show last night…..while I wold not say it was “funny, with a side of funny”…it was very entertaining, and different then most everything else on tv…..I watched it right after Curb your Enthusiasm….it was like the female version.

  • Scott P

Last year’s season of this show was absolutely hillarious, but this season has fallen pretty flat so far. No episode yet this season has made me laugh nearly as hard as any did from last year. I’ll still keep watching though.

  • Stephanie

I just started watching this show and i think its hilarious. but i’m nervous to get too involved with it…i was a big fan of the comeback and when that was axed i was upset.

  • Red

I watched and it was very funny, but LK’s lips really bug me. WAY too much Botox or something…

  • Marc Mason

If you like JACKIE (and I love it!) you should also check out the show that precedes it, THE BUSINESS. It isn’t as scathing and mean as JACKIE, but it’s consistenty funnier and better written.
