I wasn’t planning to blog about the Justin Timberlake concert special that HBO aired on Labor Day. Read the full post.

Obviously you have a prestigious job where you are able to meet celebs. Unfortunately I am in the majjority of those who can’t so I go by all I have, which is interviews and their discs. And you can hear passion in the voice. Beyonce ripped through “Listen” and “Flaws and All” while JT simply sang about being sexy and some ho in the club (and Britney of course). I’ll elaborate with Rihanna. Bad voice, but all I hear about is how funny, frank, and really cool she is. So I bought herlatest cd. There are some good tracks. Take “Breakin Dishes” which gets me pumped. But at the end of the day all I can think of is “Um she’s 18, I highly doubt she lived with a guy who ran around on her.” That’s why I love Kelly Clarkson now (see every must list suggestion) and other artists like Damien Rice. Because they have the passion and sing songs like it’s their last time performing. Phew! I’m outta breath. I always support you Phil, but I just won’t budge on Timberlake. (P.S. I don’t really believe
the rumors about Beyonce’s age. It’s weird because she’s not partying and slutting it up in clubs ppl think she’s a fraud).
Stephen, I love ya for keeping giving me MORE cannon fodder..hehehe Beyonce’s “Listen” was her bid at an Academy Award nomination, nothing more. The emotion invoked in that track was her longing for the one award she has yet to receive. Why do you think the song was released around the EXACT same time “Irreplaceable” was at the top of the charts? “Irreplaceable” was THE hit off “BDAY”. The ONLY across the board-at-every-format HIT. “Listen” was Beyonce’s big for Oscar glory. And if you want to talk passion, PLEASE listen to JT’s “Losing My Way” song towards the end of “FutureLove/SexSounds”! Its sang from the perspective of a crackhead! What self-assured superstar who has released any material, pop or even indie, have created such a mind-blowing WTF moment in recent years & RELEASED IT INSTEAD OF JUST STREAMING SUCH A SONG ON THEIR MYSPACE PAGE? That song is truly honest about the times we live in and makes “Flaws & All” seem paltry & even manufactured. Hate JT, but listen to the song!
big = bid for Oscar glory.
Yeah I know what “Listen” was really all about, her trying to get Hudson’s thunder. But, she really does sing it well, and it’s a song that for some reason helps me feel good. As for the JT song, eh, I’ll give it a listen. (P.S. I read EW’s review of FS/LS and they even said a lot of credit needed to be given to Timberland, and only on “lovestoned” and “What goes Around” does he shine).
I’m a longtime Nsync fan but Justin was never anyone who seemed like he had any real talent. He doesn’t sing nearly as well as his bandmate JC Chasez and he sounds more like Joey Fatone vocally, only he looks a little better. After watching him grow up I will say that I love his music as a solo artist but the charm he used to have is gone. While it’s true that he doesn’t have that powerful voice his songs are fun and thumpin, you can listen to it all day if you wanted and it’s just good. There’s no need to rip him apart about that. His attitude and ego are what turns me off, they always have simply because he acts like it’s all him and it’s not. The HBO show was boring compared to the Nsync one in 2000. I think he and Timberland make a great team but Justin isn’t ready to pull this off by himself. That what he does right, he gets some help. Chasez should’ve done the same and I do believe he would’ve been successful. Only time will tell if Justin can have a longlasting career.
To littlered, what makes you think that “D*** in a Box” was written entirely by Timberlake? You do realize that Adam Sandburg writes all the digital shorts, don’t you?
Yeah I agree w/ Joe from NYC b/c people give credit to JT for being soo funny when really anyone could have doen the skits from SNL ( like the Bee Gee’s parody, that really belongs to Fallon).
I believe you meant Andy Samberg. Both he and Justin won Grammys Saturday night for “Dick in a Box.”
Correcting the correction: Samberg and J.T. won Emmys Saturday night.
I’m torn. I called the Justin Solo Experience went I first saw Nstink. It is the way it is suppossed to be. And yet, to watch everyone blame one side of the “Boob Show” so diligently as we let the other side go with a wink and a smile really sickens me. Janet’s music hasn’t been that great since, well, the Janet album, but still to cut her loose and let the sharks nibble on the phat, was just wrong. I don’t get why Justin is so popular. He is still manufactured. Without his sugar daddy he is just a whiny knuckle-head. JC had the better voice, I concur. But Justin’s brilliance comes from knowing who to let control his ride to fame. Ironic, isn’t it? Janet made R&B fun and fresh when she took control and ushered in the era of the crossover star (sorry Michael, but your sister has more style and less plastic, oh and the only album to generate 7 top 10 singles)and in one minisecond, all was erased and the imitators took back their check. Girl, if you don’t bring it on the next album…
i thought i was the only one! i just blogged about this. i hate how he just left janet in the wind after the nipple thing. he was on the stage with her and it’s his song lyric that prompted the unfortunate wardrobe malfunction. i like his music and i laugh at him on snl but he’s not the savior of music. jay anthony brown called him the new james brown. what? crazy talk. this guy sings faux soul. nothing more and nothing less.
personally i love jusin and his music..though i do understand people who don’t like that kind of music and that’s fair enough.. each to his own. but what i don’t get is that people comment on his behavior in this context. What he did to janet and whatever else people have commented on, has absolutely nothing to do with him as an artist…
