An EW exclusive: The latest celeb to join ABC's 'Dancing with the Stars'

Wayne_lFrom EW senior writer Lynette Rice:

Though ABC hasn’t officially announced the roster, EW has learned that Wayne Newton (pictured), aka Mr. Las Vegas, will follow in the tanned footsteps of George Hamilton and John O’Hurley when he joins Dancing with the Stars this fall. At 65, Newton still tours with the USO and makes regular appearances in his hometown of Vegas.

No word yet on which professional dancer he’ll be paired with, or on the identities of his fellow competitors — but we’re keeping our fingers crossed for Bob Barker since he’s free as a bird (hey, a girl can dream!). ABC would not confirm or deny Newton’s participation.

Judge Carrie Ann and Season 4 winner Apolo Ohno will announce the next lineup Aug. 29 on Good Morning America.

    Oh dear.

  • Stephen

    I’m not excited.

  • whoohoo

    ick

  • Sally

I hope I look as good as Wayne when I’m 65…I am soooo looking forward to this!

  • Richard

Wayne’s photo looks like the lead-in to a story about “When Plastic Surgery Goes Wrong”. Think twice, Mr. Newton.

  • Dee Dee

Be afraid. Be very afraid. This is just wrong and somewhat scarey! What do you bet they get him to sing too? Yikes!

  • Ron

Just because you can afford 25 plastic surgeries, doesn’t mean you should get them all. Can you bounce a dime off that stretched skin or what? Not to mention the out of control bright as the sun, blinding, white caps. Good Lord.

  • BA

Lovely hair helmet there Wayne. Just lovely. Great that you have the five gray hairs in there too for authenticity for your actual age. My Newfoundland looks better.

  • FLIPPER

There’s just something about these celebs who do this to themselves that makes me feel so sorry for them. I mean, do they think they look great? Does the king of plastic surgery, Micheal Jackson actually look in the mirror and feel comfortable about it?
I’ll keep my wrinkles and semi-big nose, thank you.
At least their talents are still intact, or are they?

  • Jilly

What’s the point of tightening your face when your neck and chest are still wrinkly and saggy?
I need sunglasses looking at those teeth.

  • snarky

    SPOILER ALERT…….
I read on a reality show website that Jennie Garth (from 90210) and Mel B of the Spice Girls are signed up. I thought the Spice Girls were going on tour???

  • Snug

What’s frightening is that Wayne Newton has a huge following amongst the cotton-heads. That alone will keep him on the show probably longer than he should stay.

  • ed

The picture of the girl that’s posted, who’s going to be her partner?

  • Tuzo

I guess Robert Goulet was unavailable. ;)

  • To Ep Sato

This article sounds perfect for a know-it-all named Ep Sato. Lets see what he can come up with this time. By the way congratulations to you and your granny wife.

  • Leslie

This is a top 10 show-can’t they get better celebs?

  • Susan Carter

Finally, a true star with so many talents that a normal person cannot even begin to relate to-Mr Newton is tops in my books-and until another comes along with even half his talents, he will remain Number 1. Cheers to you Wayne, I am supporting you all the way.

  • Chad, Denver, CO

If you look at just his face, obscuring the hair and the chest, he looks completely like a woman.

  • Barb

Ah come on folks..hes got the money and if it makes him feel young then so be it..but remember the insides are still 65… Oh and so are his knees!!!Wish I could afford a crystal staircase in my house…

  • OhmyOnion

The best part of this announcement was that APOLO OHNO will be announcing the new lineup. Good luck to all of the contestants, because no one will come close to Apolo’s star quality or have his brilliant expressive smile. I want an All-Stars!

  • C Rodz

Like how much under eye concealer can a person possibly need?!? Gee Wayne!! Leave some for the rest of us who really need it!

  • Banning, Hendrika

I am thrilled, Mr. Las Vegas being on the show and he will get ALL my votes – He is a gentleman-kind-and sincere!!! He has entertained millions honoring each one in the audience at the same moment-that is not easy-Henny

  • Maureen

Wayne Newton will add a nice touch to the show. He has a lot of charmisa and I for one will enjoy watching him. People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.

  • Sandy

What is wrong with you people – why do you have to be so mean and insulting! Are any of you familiar with airbrushing photos? If you think that every photograph taken of a celebrity is really what they look like – than you people need to get lives! I have met Wayne in person and he has aged with grace and dignity. How many pictures taken of yourselves would you want put on the Internet for the world to dissect? Give the guy a break – if I look even half as good as Wayne at 65 I will be happy – and he’s also in great shape. Just so you know – I am not what was referred to as a cotton head but he will definitely get my vote – dance on Wayne!!!!

  • Betty&Bob

Sorry folks, but he looks 80 and not 65! He looks like crap frankly. If I looked that bad at his age, I’d stay away from a camera. Air brushed???? (as the poster below voiced) LMAO Hell with that many face lifts and no skin at all left, he doesn’t need airbrushing. His skin looks like a tanned hide! And the jet black died big hair is so unattractive and so 70’s…..please!

Why do people have to be so mean? I think in the past seasons all the dancers old or young did it because they though it would be fun. They have all said it was alot of work but they enjoyed it. I wish Mr. Newton well and have fun. I will be voting each and every time and my vote will be for you.

  • Ellen

Obviously, from the post in here very few know Mr. Newton. He is an excellent entertainer, and humanitarian. Can you actually say you ever saw him in person? If you haven’t then don’t critize someone you know nothing about. Proud to say, he is truly a genuine gentleman.
