Did anyone over the age of 14 watch High School Musical 2, besides me? Until last weekend, I was blissfully ignorant of all things Wildcats. Read the full post.

I watched the original HSM gazillions of times, (yes out of my own free will), and I’m over the age of 14 (by a…few…years). It was soo much better than the sequel, although there were parts about the second one that I liked. That Ryan (Lucas Grabeel)got out from under Sharpay’s shadow and got to sing/dance more. But were Monique Coleman and Corbin Bleu used more? Troy/Sharpay/Gabriella were all just boring and annoying and I really wished they’d do more with the other characters (and I wish Ms. Darbus had been back more – she’s always a blast). I doubt the kids will get the “message” from this movie as it was more flashy and colorful and not as “deep” as the first, where the message was displayed on a giant, neon billboard (hello, “Status Quo” anyone?). But with those hoards of kids still in love with Zac and Ashley, yea, the CD will be #1 for a loong loooooooong time. But I still like the first one better.
Im 30 and male and not only did I love HSM and already watch HSM2 twice this past weekend, I just got tickets to the touring version on stage. I know. It’ll be me and all these 14 year old girls and will probably look creepy but whatever, I love the cheesiness of it all. I wasn’t sure if I was laughing AT HSM/HSM2 or WITH IT but I figure it’s got to be entertaining since I was laughing so hard. Period.
My college best friend and I were amped all week for HSM2(hey, we already paid for cable and so we didn’thvae to go pay for a new movie in the theater) and we’re 20. Is that really adult? I think this has been one of my more juvenile summers technically, being way too excited for Harry Potter and now for HSM2.
I thought the songs were a little too hip hop and techno and wanted more of the original but Lucas Gabreel rocks my socks off
I’m an adult. No kids. Love High School Musical. And it has a MUCH BETTER morale of the story compared to the musical I worshipped as a kid, Grease.
I am 34 with a 5 year old. HSM2 was supposed to be THE event of the weekend-lots of hype at the house. While my daughter declared it better than HSM, and the best movie she has ever seen (she obviously forgot that she had seen Star Wars), it was a painful watch for the ‘rents. And I loved the first one. Way too much preening on “Troy’s” part. And me thinks Ortega borrowed too many moves from Footloose and the Beat It video. But we all know we will shell out cash to see the third installment in the theater. Sigh-We’re all in this together.
Me = 27; HSM2= waiting for me on my DVR when I get home next weekend. Kenny Ortega = brilliant. Cliques = alive and well in high school and in life.
I have watched it at least 3 times with my 7-year-old daughter this week. I did not hate it, but loved the “sing-a-long” version so much better. I like to karaoke to the beat! I am 36 years old…sad
Ok, I’m really lost.
Is HSM a movie?
I thought it was a weekly show, since my girls watch it all the time on TV.
I assumed they were watching a different episode each week. We live in Qc, and they watch HSM transalted in french, the song are in english thought.
I’m 26, and totally made an event out of watching it with my 24 year old friend and her husband! I even brought over Ben & Jerry’s Creme Brulee ice cream as an ode to the basketball kid who wants to be a baker in the first movie! (I was dissappointed he didn’t sing about any desserts in the sequel!)
My friend tried to get her 13-year-old emo kid sister to watch it with us and her response was “Do I LOOK like someone whou would watch that????” ….But then her plans to go shopping at Hot Topic were mysteriously canceled and she was right there on the couch with us!
I’m 36 and have two boys, ages 8 and 4. We all loved HSM 1 and watched HSM 2 together. The original is better than the sequel, but they’re both good clean fun. I’d rather have my kids watch this than the other garbage out there passing for kids’ entertainment but is actually made for adults (hello, Shrek!). Yes, it’s a squeaky clean version of life, but the messages of staying true to yourself and your friends is an important life lesson no matter how old you are.
Not only did I watch it, I tivoed it, telling myself I was keeping it so my 8 year old niece and 7 year old nephew can watch it. They have yet to come over but I have watched it two other times since the Friday night airing, and, GASP, downloaded the album from Itunes. Did I mention I am a 31 year old male in grad school! Oh, and when will What Time Is It going to be available to karaoke?
I’m 25, did not watch HSM, but definitely have an inappropriate crush on Zac Efron…
There’s nothing wrong with an inappropriate crush on Zac Efron. My inappropriate crush started with Hairspray though, not HSM
I watched it and thought it was great. I still love the first one best though. I didn’t like all the electronica added to the voices in this soundtrack though so I don’t think I will at least be buying it.
I watched two-thirds of it, until my roommate came home, and I quickly turned the channel to “Pulp Fiction,” pretending I’d been watching it all along.
