I really like The National and would be seeing them in about 3 weeks in Orlando FL, but David, Mr. Greenwald, correct your error: Boxer sits at number 7 on metacritic list of 2007 not number 2. that slot belongs to Battles and their wtf? cd. critics all over the nation are showering it with praise and i just don't get it. it's nothing but basement geek noises (and i do crave that every now and then when done properly)Boxer should be number 2 but sadly it isn't. not that they needed; the cd speaks for itself.

This show was super, they conquered the rain and a mediocre sound system. No small feat in front of that many people. This band should be huge.

Excellent post, I agree that Boxer is going to be near the top of my list for best albums of 2007. I'll be seeing them in Chicago in a few weeks, good to know they'll be different from the band I saw at the tiny 300-capacity Schubas in the past.

glad to see this band start to get the recognition they deserve. I have been a fan for a couple years now and have grown to like them more and more with each release. I love The Boxer and can't wait to see them live.

Thanks for talking about The National! I love this band, and I, too, have noticed the remarkable change. I saw them shortly after Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers came out, and while the set was good, I found myself trying to make out the character of the band. Things changed dramatically when I saw them shortly after The Boxer came out. I think it has a lot to do with Matt's confidence in himself as the front person of the band. Lush songs, gorgeous vocals. Highly recommended.
