A PopWatch scoop: Common and T-Pain at the VMAs!

Common_lYou weren’t supposed to know this until Monday, but PopWatch has learned the names of two of the performers who are about to be added to the roster at MTV’s Video Music Awards (a bill that already includes Rihanna, Kanye West, Fall Out Boy, Timbaland, and others)!! And those two artists, who’ll be performing on the live telecast, are [drum roll, please:] thoughtful hip-hopper Common (pictured) and recent chart-topper T-Pain!!! Isn’t that awesome?!?! Aren’t you, like, totally excited?!?! Aren’t you just dying to know who else will be performing?!?! Aren’t you totally psyched to find out who’ll win the Moonman trophies on Sept. 9?!?! Aren’t you?!?!

and MY goodness, Common sure has Mariah Carey’s eyes!! LOL :)

  • RayT

I’m detecting the subtlest hint of sarcasm in this post.

  • Maggs

I haven’t been excited about who wins a moon man since MTV stopped playing music on their network…and that was a long time ago. I watched Newport Harbor: Real Orange County and omg. I cant tell any of the blondes apart and all the guys are a-holes.

  • AC

yeah, still not excited. where are all the big collaborations? I want big stars! not people who are big at the moment but will be forgotton next year *ahem* T-Pain???

  • hello!

MTV is so out of touch. And so is EW lately! People are not listening to half the garbage that you people endorse.

  • new yorker

    Nope….still not excited

  • Found Forever

Excited about Common? Absolutely! T-Pain???? Not so much.

  • Yeaaahhh!

Who the F—- is Common and T-pain?

  • carbonlite

T-pain! That’s my boy right there. It’ll be fun to see him get led off the stage in handcuffs. Hopefully he won’t be the only one.

  • jennit

Thank God for TiVo. Otherwise I’d actually have to sit through all this crap in order to see the Foo Fighters.

  • Jilly

I’m 40 and have never heard any songs from any of these “musicians”. I’ve never even heard of Common or T-pain. So….No I am not excited!!!!!

  • mike

In keeping with the videoes MTV actually plays, the VMAs will be telecast from 2-5a.m.

To Maggs: Are you sure that’s not like the countless other shows MTV, MTV2, MTV Tres, and all its other incarnations that have the same people?

  • bob

Am I Am I?…..how ’bout NO!

  • Ceballos

First of all…T-Pain sucks. I hate how all his singles have that stupid voice enhancement thing added to his already almost-whiny voice.
Also, why is it, more often than not, that Common is also described as a “thoughtful” rapper. I get that he doesn’t rap about bling and that one word Imus got in trouble for saying, but it always kinda cracks me up to hear him described as thoughtful. I mean, does he come out on stage with reading glasses and a copy of Ivanhoe?

I’m more excited for Amy Winehouse, who’ll be fresh out of rehab, er ‘retreat.’ Also, I’m going to see if Britney Spears is gonna perform, which the rumors say she is.

  • Scott

I’d be excited if an announcement was made that stated MTV would never organize or televise this colossally moronic event ever again.

  • Scott

The only way this show could ever be worthwhile would be if Britney Spears “performs”, falls on her face and totally bombs, and runs off the stage. Then, and finally then, her joke of a career would hopefully be over with and we’d never have to hear from or about her again.

  • GeeMoney

I’m looking forward to Justin Timberlake’s performance and Britney’s disasterous show, because we all know it’s going to be craptacular. Can’t wait!

Question: Have the VMA’s started sucking in recent years, or am I just getting old?
    Or maybe both?
    Could be both.
