The title of 'Indiana Jones IV' is...

Speaking of Indiana Jones IV (which will be awesome; see previous post on fourquels), you gotta wonder what they’re gonna call it. And you gotta worry that George Lucas is gonna call it something crazy; be grateful that he can’t call it Indiana Jones and the Phantom Menace and Indiana Jones and the Attack of the Clones. Aside from that — yeesh — anything goes.

To that end, Slashfilm.com has reportedly scored the latest Title Registration Report from the MPAA, listing six potential titles that Lucasfilm has filed to get approval on. Here they are. Is one of these the title of the new Indiana Jones movie?

Indiana Jones and the City of Gods
Indiana Jones and the Destroyer of Worlds
Indiana Jones and the Fourth Corner of the Earth
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Indiana Jones and the Lost City of Gold
Indiana Jones and the Quest for the Covenant

What do you think? Of these, I’d surmise that only the first two are contenders. Quest for the Covenant ties the movie too closely to both Superman IV: The Quest for Peace and the original Raiders of the Lost Ark. Lost City of Gold is a nonstarter because Allan Quatermain, in one of the worst sequels of all time, got there first. (Indiana Jones and the Legend of Curly’s Gold would be a better title.) Really, smart money says it’s City of Gods. (Hmm, now, which sacred relic does that title suggest Indy will be seeking this time?) What title would you use? And please don’t make Harrison-Ford-is-old jokes; those are lame.

The Fourth Corner of the Earth sounds more fitting since it’s the fourth movie in the series.

I dont know, City of Gods sounds pretty epic, and exciting. Seems to fit most with the previous titles. None of them are all that bad though.

  • Jonathan

Yeah I like the Fourth Corner of the World one.

  • Jonathan

    Earth, rather.

I hate all of them. Fourth Corner of the Earth sounds like Pirates 4, Destroyer of Worlds sounds Sci Fi, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is more fitting for like Legally Blonde 3 shoot, City of God is already a movie.
Besides, everyone is just going to call it “Indiana Jones” when they go to buy tickets. No one is going to say “2 for Indiana Jones and the City of Gods, please.” So, yeah, they should just call it “Indiana Jones.”

I like Quest for the Covenent… the rest sound like I’ve heard them before

  • Snarf

None of them are all that good either.
Then again Lucas doesn’t exactally knock ‘em out of the park with his titles.

Indiana Jones and the City of Gods has to be my favourite so far.
Indiana Jones and the Destroyer of Worlds would be an acceptable title only if their are aliens and giant space crafts.
Indiana Jones and the Fourth Corner of the Earth- Here I was thinking the world was round!
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull-Okay but nothing I would get too excited about.
Indiana Jones and the Lost City of Gold is the runner up in my favourites contest.
Indiana Jones and the Quest for the Covenant- Is the Covenant even tangiable? It makes sense that they would go with the Christian symbolism (Ark, Holy Grail) but I always thought the Covenant was a promise between God and Moses. Not exactly something you quest for. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
Really doesn’t matter to me though, I’ll just be lazy and call it Indy 4.

“Indiana Jones and the Damp Weather”

  • Louis

Indiana Jones and the deathly hallows…what already used

There’s the covenant between Abraham and God, Moses and God, I think David and God, and Jesus and God. Jesus WAS a covenant, sealed by his death and ressurection. But again, you can’t exactly search for Jesus’ remains.
City of the Gods is my favorite, followed by Lost City of Gold. I agree, they sound very epic, while the others sound slightly tacky. But that’s just me.

IJ and the City of Gods is a decent title, but it immediately makes me think of a Brazilian slum village…so that’s out for me.
I’m liking “Indiana Jones and the Fourth Corner of the Earth”…ties in nicely with it being the fourth film of the series, plus, it could really be about anything and would lead to some amazing locations. As long as he doesn’t find himself sailing towards a waterfall at the ends of the Earth (like THAT hasn’t been over done) i don’t wanna know…i wanna be surprised.

  • Yeaahhh!

How about Indiana Jone and the magical cane or Indiana Jones and 60 year old women in all honesty city of gods am really looking forward to this film not joking

  • evie

Oh my god, I really hope it ends up being Indiana Jones and the Legend of Curly’s Gold. They could CGI Jack Palance in.

  • Dave

Indiana Jones and the Legend of Curly’s Gold would be hilariously fantastic. Jon Lovitz could be subbed in for, like, Indy’s deadbeat brother or something and they’d pretend that nothing changed.
