This just in: America* is buzzing about ABC’s forthcoming sitcom Cavemen, based on a series of Geico commercials. While I find this information borderline unbelievable, a poll of 3,100 people ages 13-64 says otherwise; Cavemen ranked No. 1 among buzzed-about new series, followed by NBC’s Bionic Woman, CBS’ Kid Nation, and ABC’s Pushing Daisies.
Perhaps more importantly, though, the poll, conducted by TV Dailies, also asked folks which new shows they would definitely watch this fall. The top four (in order) were Bionic Woman, Cavemen, Fox’s Kitchen Nightmares, and ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy spinoff Private Practice, followed by a seven-way tie for fifth among CBS’ Cane, Kid Nation, and The Big Bang Theory; Fox’s Next Great American Band and K-Ville; The CW’s Reaper; and NBC’s Journeyman.
The bad news here is that apparently, America is not yet feeling the love for NBC’s delightful spy dramedy Chuck. I watched a screener of the pilot episode last week, and fell for it with the kind of enthusiasm and fervor that means it’s most likely marked for cancellation before Thanksgiving. (See: Smith, Threshold, Aliens in the Family.) Perhaps the following YouTube clip will begin to turn the tide? How can you not root for a show with a leading lady named Yvonne Strzechowski (who happens to be terrific)?
Also not on the buzz list: Fox’s The Return of Jezebel James. I have to say, the combination of Parker Posey and Lauren Ambrose in a sitcom from Amy Sherman-Palladino sure sounded promising. But after catching the preview below, I’m having serious doubts. I mean, when your trump card is a sneezing bulldog, it might be time for a rewrite.
Are you buzzing about the same series in the TV Dailies poll? Or are there other members of the freshman that are more likely to score a spot on your DVR schedule come September?

RE: America is buzzing about ABC’s forthcoming sitcom Cavemen
Are you sure they’re just not talking about how awful it looks?
I watched the “Cavemen” pilot and it was the worst thing I ever saw. I know they are reworking it but I doubt even the best actors and writers can make that series be a hit. I personally think that it ranks high in polls because people are curious about it (mostly because they want to see for themselves if it is THAT bad).
I’m rooting for “Pushing Daisies” the most. “Chuck” should really be fun too.
Caveman looks beyond retarded, Moonlight is rip off of Forever Knight, but Chuck looks promising.
I’m w/furry_tom; I think all the buzz “Cavemen” is getting is b/c people think it can’t be anything but awful. I was looking forward to the Parker Posey show, but from reviews I’ve read, it doesn’t look to be worthy of adding to my DVR. So for now, “Pushing Daisies” is my most-looked-forward-to show.

Am I not watching NBC enough? I haven’t seen any commercials at all for Chuck. If I had, I would be buzzing about it, as I am all about the spy shows. (*sniff* Alias *sniff*) I am planning on watching Bionic Woman and Journeyman. I also agree with everyone else who believes that the buzz for Cavemen is solely to watch a train wreck air on live television.
i’m most looking forward to “Dirty Sexy Money” on ABC with Peter Krause (Nate from Six Feet Under).
As for existing shows, I’m counting the days until season 2 of Friday Night Lights – the best show on network tv – everyone must watch!
Amy Sherman-Palladino hates the Jezebel James trailer and TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello promises it doesn’t do the show justice, so I’m not worried.
The Bionic Woman looks great.
If anyone ws looking forward to see Flash Gordon…too bad for them…that show sucked hard. It was like a bad 80’s rendition of The Bad Acting/writing/directing school
I’m excited for “Chuck” and the “Heroes” mini-series later in the year.
As a former Atlantan, I am totally going to watch Cavemen, mostly because it’s supposed to take place in the ATL. That’s funny in itself. I can’t wait for New Amsterdam and Moonlight, which DO look like Forever Knight (or Angel) rip-offs, but hopefully will be more original. And I’ll watch Kid Nation, although the concept is creepy.
What am I most looking forward to…Katee Sackhoff on my screen more than one night a week! So I guess my answer is Bionic Woman
I’m buzzing about Moonlight, but only because of Jason Dohring. Chuck looks good, but hard to imagine as a series.
@Mark in nyc: Dear God, did Flash Gordon suck… I can’t believe I actually watched the whole thing. That’s one I can remove from the DVR schedule.
Obviously it’s all about PUSHING DAISIES! Lee Pace is a god and this show has the perfect amount of quirky drama mixed with rom-com that its certain to be a cult (and hopefully mass market) hit!
dirty sexy money and gossip girl!!
OMG – I didnt know Kitchen Nightmares was coming to FOX! I caught this show (BBC America version) and was intoxicated by it — so excited!!
For me it’s:
Kid Nation, interesting concept.
Pushing Daisies, saw commercials and it immediately got my attention.
Chuck, Spies!
Reaper, looks like it might be worth at least one viewing.
Apparently the people commenting here were not of that 3,100 polled about Cavemen which…well there’s no description that really fits it. Why ABC? You were doing so well with programming choices!
I’m with Dominique–I’m not judging Jezebel James by the trailer. Studios are notorious for putting out ridiculous, pandering trailers. Right now, Jezebel James is my only must-see show of the fall.
Parker Posey can do no wrong in my book so I’ll keep hope for Jezebel. I’m excited about Gossip Girl too.
Several of the new shows look/sound promising. But the only ones I definitely plan to check out, in order of interest, are:
1. Pushing Daisies (which I am sure I will love and it will become one of my favorites)
2. Bionic Woman
3. Chuck
I can’t wait for Bionic Woman & The Sarah Connor Chronicles (mid-season). I also have high hopes for K-Ville (mainly for Anthony Anderson), Jezebel Jones (I hope the series is better than the pilot) and Back to You (I hope I can enjoy a sitcom with a live audience again).
I want to have an interest in Chuck and Reaper, but I don’t like that much comedy mixed with my action shows. I hope that Cavemen only lasts one episode.
I definitely want to check out Pushing Daisies and Reaper. I’m semi-interested in Bionic Woman. But that’s about it. My b/f mentioned this weekend that he was looking forward to Life on NBC. Has anyone heard anything good about it?
I also can’t wait for Chuck, Gossip Girl, Jezebel James… Can you tell I was an OC and GG fan? Really not feeling Bionic Woman or Caveman however. Especially not the Caveman. I’m guessing the people who watch Caveman are the same ones that keep “About Jim” on the air.
I will watch Chuck. Zachary Levi who plays Chuck totally reminds me of Adam Brody.
I’m going to watch Chuck, but I’m going to do it grudgingly, even though it’ll probably win me over eventually. To me, it seems like a ripoff of Jake 2.0’s “Uber geek becomes super spy.” plotline. I loved that Jake 2.0, and it got cancelled before it really had a chance to shine.
Everytime I hear about “Cavemen” I die a little inside. Why do sitcoms like this exist while I have been scared for a while that Scrubs wouldn’t get another season?
“Pushing up Daises” looks intersting but it could over do the zany/quirky and be terrible (just like Men in Trees). I am a firm believer that you can not mass produce quirkiness. I will be watching “Chuck” because of the name, it intrigues me for no reason whatsoever.
A lot of the new fall series just look like rip offs of older shows. There is one show about a vampire who solves crime that I forgot the name of.(Is that Moonlighting?) I smell “Angel” a mile away. It would take sheer brillance for me to accepts a replacement for any Whedon show.
The shows I have been waiting for:
Scrubs
30 Rock
Futurama (Coming to Comedy Central in Feb.)
Pushing Up Daisies
The Office
I have been so busy lately that it would take a lot to make me invest in new characters and concepts. I’m lazy, I know.
New shows that I have a feeling I will get hooked on (and have a conniption if they get cancelled too early)
Pushing Daisies
Bionic Woman
Life
Journeyman (but only because I adore Kevin McKidd)
Please, please – may all the networks give new shows more than ONE airing before axing them. Grrr…
I have to go with Reaper, Chuck, and Private Practice.
Reaper has won me over, solely by having Kevin Smith direct the pilot episode.
New tv shows I’m most excited for: Bionic Woman & Pushing Daisies. (Oh, & the return of Futurama!) Runners-up are Chuck (premise didn’t grab me initially, but I’ve been hearing good things about it) & Jezebel James (hope it doesn’t waste that great pedigree).
Cavemen looks like rubbish, but the only show I’m actively hoping will fail is Cane, because I’m dying for Nestor Carbonell to return to Lost for a Richard Alpert flashback. Private Practice is very ‘meh’, & as a general rule I steer well-clear of reality shows.
cashmere mafia and gossip girl are the two i’m most excited about.
i’ll probably check out bionic woman and the sarah connor chronicles too.
