Fiddy vs. Kanye: A career is at stake!

Categories: Celebrity Feuds, Music

Feud_lNew developments today in the hip-hop showdown of the century, currently scheduled for September 11, when both 50 Cent and Kanye West release their new albums. In an interview with SOHH.com, Fiddy says he’s ready to bet his whole career that his new album, Curtis, outsells the Louis Vuitton Don’s Graduation.

“Put it like this,” 50 said, gearing up to refer to himself in the third person. “Let’s raise the stakes. If Kanye West sells more records than 50 Cent on September 11, I’ll no longer write music. I’ll write music and work with my other artists, but I won’t put out any more solo albums.”

Let’s see: 50 sold 1.14 million copies of The Massacre in its first four days of release back in 2005. Later that year, Kanye’s Late Registration moved 860,000 units in its opening week. According to historical precedent, 50’s solo career looks safe. But two years later, is 50 at the height of his powers? This could get interesting (assuming, of course, that 50 Cent really would quit if he got shamed on 9/11/07). And what if Kenny Chesney’s new album, also opening on September 11, outsells both 50 and Kanye? Will you buy 50’s album just to keep him in the game, or Kanye’s album instead, just to get him out?

I would buy Keane’s just to shut Fifty up. He raps like he has marshmallows in his mouth.

  • mike

Two massive egos in a steel cage match of death. I’ve pre-ordered ten Kenny Chesney CDs.

  • Matthew

Kanye has an ego, but 50’s is way bigger. Let him quit, he wasn’t even really that good to begin with. He says that now but I doubt that’ll be the end for him as a solo rapper. Kanye is a much more talented rapper, and therefore deserves higher sales than the guy who came up with “I’ll let you lick the lollipop…”
    ’nuff said.

  • Alex

I am definitely buying Kanye’s disc now. 50 has got to go. Ego aside, Kanye is great.

  • Valerie

I hate them both. I’m seriously thinking of buying Kenny Chesney’s CD… whoever he is !

  • Sarah

My bet’s on Kenny Chesney being number 1 that week.

  • nathan

Anyone with higher than a 3rd grade education would pick Kanye over 50 Cent, the two aren’t even in the same league. Fiddy music is just a pile of S.H.I.T.

  • katie

    agreed nathan.
i saw kayne in concert in july – and he rocked it out. i was impressed with the show he put on, and think his music is far superior to 50’s fake gangster crap.
i’m definetly going to buy kayne’s album on the 11th just for the hope that 50 will have to shut up.

According to iTunes, Kanye’s album is at #3 on the Top Album chart, while 50’s is #9. Also, Kanye’s “Stronger” is at #2 on the top song’s chart, while 50’s “Ayo Technology” is again at #9. Maybe Kanye has the upper hand?
Their ego’s need to take a break.

  • harry

If 50 expects to do well he better find a dictionary and study his a– of.

  • Christina

No more 50 Cent, that will be a glorious day and it will probably come true since Kanye is way more relevant than 50 is right now. However I predict that Kenny Chesney will outsell them both and put both their egos in check

  • Dave

Kanye is an innovator, 50 is an immitator. Any questions?

  • BrandonK

What I want to know is how to get rid of both of them…

  • Sara

There are very few artists who I actually go out and buy their records the first day they’re out — and Kanye is one of them. I’d buy his album the first day it came out regardless, but now I definitely will just to spite 50.

  • hm

i may buy two cds now if it means 50 wont rap anymore.

  • Stephen

I’ll go out on a limb and say “HSM 2″ will still top the charts. As for 50, he won’t stop, remember Jay-Z’s half-a**Ed ‘retirement?’

  • nunya

can’t they just pick different dates? also, it might be nice if they were somewhat concerned with remembering the victims lost on 9/11/01 for that one day rather than adding to their already massive bank accounts.

  • Paul

Although I like a few of Kanye’s songs and am really digging “Stronger”, I’ve never bought any of his albums. I’m definitely buying his new one the day it comes out. Anything to get rid of 50 Cent.

  • Jenny

Can I get a witness? I think 50 wants to take a break for his “acting” RME anyway. He’ll wait a couple of years then make some big production that he couldn’t stay away forever because he didn’t want to let his fans down. Transparent.

  • pamela

I pre-ordered Kanye West’s album, and personally can’t wait for fiddy cent to shut-up for awhile.
    Go KANYE!

  • pamela

LOLOL just read all the comments, and everyone agrees that 50’s gotta go! I’ve never seen a comment board with so much unison!
I wonder what other world problems can be put aside through our shared hate of fake ‘gangstas’?

  • Stephen to nunya

I just finished the latest EW mag, and there’s a column all about the release date, so your question should be answered.

  • Xavier

Lets see, Kanye’s singles “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” and “Stronger” versus the gorilla’s “Money in the Bank” and “Amusement Park” – what a tough decision. Based on the singles alone Kanye is set win. But like he said – “anything’s possible if Magic made it.” I REALLY hope, though, that 50 cent will have to eat his words!

  • Nix

September 11? That date sounds vaguely familiar. Eh, must not have been a big deal.

  • Vivi

I still have hope for 50. I don’t know why, either. I guess cuz I always listen to his 1st album and still believe that he has that in him. Why he decides to have a beef with Mr. West is beyond me. That’s like digging up your own grave, diving into it and then closing it up…ALL BY YOURSELF. Seriously 50 is all by himself with this one. Kanye is gonna outsell him that week. And the next. And the one after that. You get the point. Did ya know that 50 is still searching for a hit single from this so-called album that he’s been pushing back for a good 3 months? Now, he’s going back on his own word and has a song out with Mr. Timberlake…something he vowed he would NEVER do. Probably he thinks him by his side he finally has a hit. Um, no.
Besides, like some peeps have mentioned, maybe that Kenny do might out sell both of them. Never underestimate country fans.

  • Stephen to vivi

I agree with his pointless feud starting. Do you remember a few months ago and he blew up at Oprah? Now, Kanye I can see, but OPRAH? Sorry dude, you’re on your own.

  • Frontin Jonzey

They started the feud so they can get headlines and start a conversation on comment boards.
Retirement in hip-hop is just another publicity stunt in itself. (See Jay-Z)

  • t3hdow

50 Cent had one good album, a few other decent singles, but that’s it. He’s never going to obtain the popularity he used to, so I don’t see why he’s making such a stupid beef. At least Kanye West’s talented enough to warrant the huge ego. 50 Cent…not so much. Unless he strikes lightning again with a future album – ‘Laughing to the Bank’ and ‘Amusement Park’ doesn’t inspire much confidence for 50’s latest album – he’ll remain irrelevant to the hip hop industry.

  • t3hdow

To Nunya, I disagree. It’s been almost 6 years since the attacks, and the nation is showing signs of moving on. Don’t get me wrong. 9/11 will always be a painful footnote of US History and we should forever learn from it, but we shouldn’t let the feeling of dread that emerged that day drag us down everytime Sept. 11th passes by. I don’t see anyone commemorating Dec. 7th annually, even though many Americans died in Pearl Harbor decades ago. Even the Japanese act less stingy towards the Horishima/Nagasaki bombings, despite two of their cities getting blown sky high over 60 years ago (though they abhor any kind of nuclear weapons, understandably). We Americans should do the same with 9/11. I even heard of a couple that got married on Sept. 11th a few years after 9/11, so they’ll remember the day with something positive instead of bleak and pessimistic feelings.

  • Stephen

Any feud in the music industry makes ma a little nervous. Has everyone forgotten Tupac and B.I.G.???
