It seems like every year we have an EW.com roundtable discussion about the songs of summer, and they are always in the vein of "Fantastic Voyage," "Hella Good," and this year’s "Umbrella." Those songs are just fine to head-bop to during those steamy months, but this week it occurred to me that maybe we individually have our own summer songs that are not what the Top 40 radio stations are spoon-feeding us.
My official summer song of 2007 is Nicole Willis and the Soul Investigators’ "If This Ain’t Love." Already popular in Europe (and all over the Internet; watch the video below), Willis’ track has tapped into a mod soul sound (that you may find similar to Amy Winehouse), full of beautiful retro R&B orchestrations and string arrangements. Bonus points for the happy baby coos at the end, a-la Stevie Wonder’s "Isn’t She Lovely." The lyrics are upbeat and dreamy too; no umbrella or trip to rehab required. I NEED to hear it at least once a day!
PopWatchers, what’s your official song of summer 2007?

anything of the new white stripes cd, “icky thump”
I’d pick a song off the new Spoon album, but I just got it last month so I haven’t really been rocking it all summer. So instead I’ll pick Patrick Wolf’s Magic Position, which has been on repeat all summer for me.
“Two Sisters” by Fiction Plane and Wino’s “Rehab”
For some reason my song of the summer became SHUT UP and DRIVE. love it, dance to it on the train when it pops up on my ipod.
Supermassive Black Hole from Muse’s Black Holes and Relevations. It’s funky and cool plus it sounds so much better when played live!
3s & 7s by Queens of the Stone Age. First thing I play whenever I put on my iPod.
It’s got to be ‘Umbrella.’ I mean, I don’t really like it that much, but I can hear Rhianna’s voice singing(?) ‘Eh, Eh, Eh,’ in my sleep. I wish I could have liked it the way I liked last year’s song of summer, Fergie’s London Bridge, but hey, you can’t have everything.
nelly furtado’s maneater… did that come out this year? i’m behind…
Linkin Park, “What I’ve Done”, ’cause it closed out “Transformers”, which was the most fun I’ve had at a movie all summer.
“Can’t Believe a Single Word” by VHS or Beta
I’m sorry, but it remains Umbrella. Maybe Stronger by Kanye could work too
Mine is The Underdog by Spoon. A perfect summer song by one of the most underappreciated bands in the world.
I second furry_tom’s nomination of The Magic Position and add MCR’s Teenagers, which I still listen to at least once every day on full volume, and Everybody Knows You Cried Last Night from The Fratellis.
“The Way I Are” by Timbaland. I first heard it on my favorite summer show “So You Think You Can Dance”.
Junior Senior’s “Can I Get Get Get” has been my official song of summer. Well, that an the Planet Unicorn theme song.

CHOCOLATE RAIN.

“With Every Heartbeat,” Robyn.
The song of the summer. Way better than every song out there right now. Other songs are all. “Who You?” And before my song answers it beats them up with it’s coolness!
Oh, I got one more that I forgot! “Potential Breakup Song” by Aly and AJ. Such a guilty pleasure. The only song I know by them. So freaking good.
“the heinrich maneuver” by interpol.
“Bleed It Out” or “What I’ve Done” from Linkin Park’s Minutes To Midnight. Love the album and I got to see them in concert which made it so much better.
No Cars Go by the Arcade Fire.
“Summer Love” by Justin Timberlake.
Usually, I limit my respsonses to the question asked (just one offical summer song in this case), but I have seven offical summer songs. They are:

“Whine Up” by Kat DeLuna
“Breakin’ Dishes” by Rihanna
“Love Is a Losing Game” by Amy Winehouse

“Boyz” by M.I.A.
‘All Through the Night’ by Escort. Great dance song with Cowbell!!
