James Roday and Dule Hill on “Psych.”
1. Catching up on the ENTIRE SEASON of “Friday Night Lights” on NBC.com. Why wait for TV on DVD?
2. The “Watch Instantly” feature on Netflix. Why wait for it to get mailed to you?
3. Uh, apparently instant gratification is my third Must List item this week.
Back Door Slam at Lollapalooza. They were on one of the smallest stages, but by the middle of their set they had a huge crowd, and for good reason. Check them out ASAP.
The Singing Bee. The ultimate in summer entertainment…it’s fun, funny, mindless, and the whole family can get in on it. Yay, Joey Fatone!
Joey Fatone’s interviewing technique on The Singing Bee is just hilarious. An example:
JF: Hi! What’s your name?
Contestant: Annie!
JF: What do you do?
Contestant: I’m a steel worker!
JF: Greaaaat…and you, hi, what’s your name?
C2: George!
JF: What do you do?
C2: I sell cattle.
JF: Greaaaat. Now let’s play!
Kelly Clarkson’s single “Sober” from her extremely under-appreciated album “My December”. In a word: gorgeous.
1. “Damages”
2. Hanson’s new album “The Walk”
3. The “Hairspray” soundtrack
The DVD Extras on the new Hot Fuzz Disk. Particularly the “Edited for TV” montage. Every minute is as hilarious as the film itself.
Music I can’t stop listening to:
1) Version – Mark Ronson
2) These Streets – Paolo Nutini
3) Traffic and Weather – Fountains of Wayne
All three albums are fantastically catchy, yet not imbecilic, pop music that gets in your head and demands relistening.
I love Colbie Caillat’s album “Coco.” All the songs are gorgeously sung, the lyrics are touching, and the music is extremely comforting and pleasant. It’s perfectly light and relaxing, but still fun.
‘Flight of the Conchords’ on HBO is hilarious. Baguette?
1. ‘The Office’ TV –> best show ever created!
2. ‘My December’ – Kelly Clarkson awesome album
3. ‘Bourne Ultimatum’ movie
The most awesomely trash-tastic show on TV: Rock of Love.
Jim Halpern on “The Office.” His nudge-nudge glances at the camera make my week. I don’t care if it’s in reruns now; every scene with John Krasinski brings out a new discovery in comedy. (jeffswim@aol.com)
The San Diego Zoo and Zoo Atlanta Panda Cams. My favorite time waster at work is watching panda shenanigans.
kelly clarksons badass new album my december…now thats a must
Patton Oswalt’s Wearwolves and Lollypops! It’s an amazing comedy album! Don’t let it be ignored!!!!
I’ve got two:
1. Kevin Smith & Scott Mosier’s ‘SModcast’ podcast, available at iTunes or http://www.quickstopentertainment.com. Who knew listening to two guys ramble on about nothing would be so frakkin’ hilarious.
2. Jasper Fforde’s new novel “First Among Sequels: A Thursday Next Novel.” I’ve been waiting for this one for months! He’s genius, and as long as he keeps writing, I have my Harry Potter replacement in Thursday Next (his Nursery Crime novels are also quite brilliant.)
MY DECEMBER KELLY CLARKSON
Oh yeah, Sober from Kelly’s new album My December is one of the best songs she’s ever done. I can’t get that one out of my head.
Nikki Blonsky from “Hairspray.” It’s been a few weeks since I saw the movie and “Good Morning Baltimore” is still stuck in my head. She totally owned that movie. So much better than Jennifer whatshername from last year.
The Nine on ABC. A show that should have never been axed is finally getting the final episodes aired.
hate on me by jill scott – finally a studio track that reflects her amazing live shows
cheyenne jackson in xanadu – he hits the sweet spot of the roller-disco-opening-mogul-wannabe
alison janney in hairpsray – she loves her devil-child
jeanne tripplehorn in big love – a former sexpot turns in a quietly heartbreaking performance
Movie:”This is England”. Shane Meadow’s semi autobiographical tale uses retro cool to take us back to England in the early 1980’s. The movie features several stunning performances and a very 80’s friendly soundtrack.
Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations. His new season started last week. His show is the perfect blend of witty commentary, tasty-looking food and exciting travel destinations.

Kelly Clarkson- My December
1) Sean Kington’s “Beautiful Girls”
The track just won’t go away. I remember the week it came out laughing at my little sister for creating a dance to it with her friends, but one road trip later and the tune had become pemanantly ingrained as “the song of the summer we all went away to college”. You know it’s hot when you break out singing it in a room, and some people join you, some laugh, and some throw pillows at you. That was last night.
2)TBS’s “My Boy’s”- Actually discovered this one about a week before the article on Jordana Spiro, lying in a hotel room late at night, channel surfing. I’d only known about Jim Gaffigan before (Hot.. Pocketsss”) but the rest of the cast makes this a show I’ve come back for and want to see more of. It’s like an acceptable guy version of “Sex and the City”, like someone said hey maybe they’d enjoy this to…
3)NBC.com’s “Heroes” graphic novels
Prfect way to keep the show “in”, I check each week to see where each minor character came from…
The Best Years on the-N channel. Awesome Canadian teenish drama!
I hate to admit it, but The Diana Chronicles by Tina Brown is my guilty pleasure so far this summner.
Hands down Kelly Clarkson’s My December album.
