I saw Dirty Dancing when it came out 20 years ago (and manytimes since) and was always entranced with the lakeside setting, the lovestory, and the soundtrack. What neverentered my mind was, "I’d sure like to play a video game based on thisfilm." Fatal Attraction, yes, Dirty Dancing, no. But what do I know? Apparently, not much, since Dirty Dancing — The Video Game, from the folks at Codemasters Online Gaming, is set to come outlater this year. (Please tell me you areas confused as I am.) I don’t quite understand how it’ll work, but apparentlyit’s a "puzzler" where you earn camp dollars by doing "funmini-games" (probably making up the beds, serving food to guests, etc.) tobuy items for your cabin and lessons with Johnny and Penny. The game even ends in a dance contest. I’m not sold… sounds boring.
But hold on a sec… nobody puts Baby’s video game in a corner. On closer look, the press release saysit’s a casual game, so maybe it’ll be like Diner Dash! You get to be the server at the resortwhile dodging Johnny and Penny as they fling each other around the dance floor.Now, that would be fun, but do we really need this? A Dirty Dancing video game? I guess this means a Three Men and a Babygame, complete with diaper changing challenges, can’t be far behind; it’s their 20thanniversary too!
Um, for real? Wow.
A lot of great video games can be created from movies from 1987:
A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors – Freddy Krueger is loose again! You must not fall asleep or you’ll have to suffer through his hammy overacting and tired Catskill one-liners.
Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise – There’s trouble in Paradise when those lovable nerds show up. Lewis, Booger and the rest must find Anthony Edwards, who has gone into hiding after reading the script.
Superman IV: The Quest For Peace – Intense gaming action, Superman sets out on an epic quest to see if it is possible to suck AND blow at the same time.
And these are just sequels, and I didn’t even touch on the greatest sequel released in ’87, Teen Wolf Too!

Exactly Tom. I think that one of the earliest Atari 2600 games was possibly the first movie tie in, Porky’s the video game.

Anyway I think that the game would have been better if the idea was for Johnny and Baby to try and stop the wallet stealing Shoemakers.
Hmmm…I wonder what the premise of the game will be. I heard they were also making a video game for The Office, and while at first I thought “Huh?” with that, they could do it if they just did the Office Olympics bit. That could be cool. Pam-pong, while fun to watch on TV doesn’t lend itself well to a video game I think.
I think a Police Academy themed game would rule way more. Especially if it had a soundtrack courtesy of Michael Winslow.
