What does your pop-culture cubicle decor say about you? Here’s why I’m asking: I recently got a new cube mate, Fred. Read the full post.

The reprinted edition of the final “Far Side” desk calendar, several pages of this stuck to my bulletin board, a monkey that makes very obnoxious loud noises when you throw him at stuff, Robert Frost’s poem, “The Road Not Taken”, and several pictures of friends, family, and my pets. I am planning on replacing my stapler soon with a red Swingline so I can go around quoting Milton.
I want a Schrute buck! I am considering the Optimus Prime Potato Head.
Jessica: ooooo, you HAVE to find out where your Norrington came from… I MUST HAVE ONE! If I worked with you, your Norrington could swordfight with my Will Turner and Jack Sparrow action figures (with slashing thrust action… sounds kinky!)
I have a postcard with Animal from the Muppets that says Rock! on it.

I’m obviously not the pop culture goddess I thought I was, because all that’s on my desk (besides work equipment and files) is a lamp, a Chinese paper cut-out of a rabbit from my cousin’s wedding, and a picture of me and Mr. Martha from 1992. Pathetic, I know. Somehow my obsession with entertainment doesn’t seem to take physical form…unlike Mandi and furry_tom with their awesome stick puppets!
Oh where to begin. My office is pretty stuffed full of stuff. The walls are almost completely covered with movie posters and the like. The current list includes:
- 2 door posters of Commander Riker and Lieutenant Worf,
- ones sheets of Batman Begins, Amelie, The Bourne Ultimatum, Children of Men (teaser one sheet),
- a giant map of middle earth, a 24 Jack Bauer poster,
- a mini-sized version of the new JJ Abrahms Star Trek one sheet,
- a cartoon version of my universities campus map
- a vintage poster that says is your bathroom breeding bolsheviks.
- a Star Trek Ships of the Line 2007 calendar
- A model of the Back To the Future 2 Delorean (they are different depending on the movie!)
- A model of the Enterprise-D
- A mini space shuttle I picked up at the Smithosian in D.C.
- A Captain Picard action figure
- A film canister with all my ticket stubs from when I moved to start my new job
- A green light thingy that is hard to describe and that’s just my office!
Jess: I actually got mine as a table favor at this year’s Edgar Awards (literary award for mystery novels; I wasn’t nominated but a friend was), but you can also get them from Archie McPhee (http://www.mcphee.com/items/11470.html), along with all of your other monkey/pirate/meat needs.
daisyj: Thank you! That’s an awesome web site! I’m afraid you’ve opened a total Pandora’s Box by showing me that web site, tho. My desk (and credit card) are now quivering with fear!
Oh and I forgot!
A plaque I pilfered from the movie theatre I worked at when I was 18 that says This Theatre is Equipped with SDDS: Sony Dynamic Digital Sound
and my prized possession of a slate from Universal Studios which frankly gets randomly used to call action on porn movies for some reason.
Unfortunately, I have no cubicle and I share an office with my boss in his guest house (personal assistant am I). But, if I were allowed to decorate I would have to have:
Duran Duran early/mid 80′s poster(s)
Magic 8 Ball
Storm Trooper Action Figure (actually belongs to my husband…)
EPCOT ball on stand
Stuffed “Florida” palm tree (from when I used to live there)
Polaroid picture of me taken with cardboard Harry Potter the night of the release of “Order of the Phoenix”
Wow! If I ever get an office I think I may need some more stuff…
Tim, you just reminded me to hang my map of Middle-earth in my office! Thank you!
I have a rather small office, but on the walls are framed posters from “Chicago” and “Moulin Rouge,” but my pride and joy is on the shelf: The Runaway Bride Bobblehead Doll (not from the movie – the actual runaway bride from Duluth, GA).
Oh, and my desktop says “Harry Potter and the Desktop of Wonders” and features a countdown clock that will hit ONE tomorrow!!
I have a large poster of Michael Buble in my cube. You’d be stunned at how many people ask if he’s my boyfriend. (I’m 26 and most of the people in my office are 40+) Sometimes I say yes.
The tons of other stuff aside, here are my pop culture related items:
- A Dwight Schrute bobblehead doll
- Color printouts of the Schrutebuck, Stanley nickel, Pam penny, Jim dime, and Angela gold dollar
- Pictures of John Krasinski and Jake Gyllenhaal (because they’re pretty)
