We hear Barbara Walters (pictured) and the rest of the folks behind The View are oh-so-close to naming a new host to replace the dearly-departed Rosie O’Donnell. In the last two months, guest hosts have run the gamut, from Sherri Shepherd and Kathy Griffin to Suze Orman and Mario Cantone, but no one is saying for sure whether the show will go with a harmless actress — or a polarizing personality — to occupy the empty spot opposite Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Joy Behar (and they still have to replace Star Jones Reynolds, too). Conventional wisdom suggests that the ladies will probably take the easy way out; between O’Donnell and Isaiah Washington, ABC has endured more than its fair share of firebrands recently, thank you very much. But if ABC knows what’s good The View’s ratings, it’ll settle on a gal who’s not not afraid to share her genuine — if not always popular — opinion. Assuming you’re still watching the yakker now that O’Donnell’s history, who would you like to see kvetching over coffee with Barbara, Elisabeth, and Joy?

What is this? Like the 8th Popwatch item about who should replace Rosie.
Whether she’s replacing Rosie or Star, Sherri Shepherd should be apart of this show…and the producers need to make an announcement already so we can all just move on.
They need someone smart, funny, interesting and unafraid of saying what she thinks. Someone uninterested in pursuing other Hollywood interests. I can’t think of anyone better than Jamie Lee Curtis.

I second the nomination for Sherri Shepard. She’s a hoot and a half.
I think that, in addition to replacing Rosie, they should replace Barbara. She is the worst of the bunch.
That said, I think Kathy Griffin and Ross Matthews should join Joy. And everybody else should be fired.
whoopi should replace rosie. sherri can replace star. whoopi is intelligent and calm. sherri seems overwhelmed by whoopi, but every once in a while she says something that makes ya go, WTF?? get rid of barbara is what i say. the show sux when she’s on. and i am not ageist. if she were a normal old lady she’d be fine, but she tries too hard to be cool…and she ain’t.
I’m not sure who should replace Rosie as moderator, but I think Kathy Griffin is a great choice to fill the Star vacancy. She’s witty, left leaning who can balance out that neocon Elisabeth and isn’t afraid to voice her opinion. I’m against Whoopi taking the spot; she’s too bland and irrelevant. She would have been fine in 1997, but now who cares what she says? As for Sherri Shepherd – yes, she’s funny, but do we really want another traditional conservative on the panel? She doesn’t believe in evolution and advocates spanking/beating kids. Yikes! How about either Jacque Reid or Renee Syler as moderator? Both are intelligent and confident journalists who would lead the panel well.
I’d like to see Gayle King with the ladies. I’ve been a long and faithful View watcher. I tape it everyday. I really enjoyed Gayle King on the show recently. She is a natural moderator and feel she’d be a great addition
Gayle King as moderator and Sherri Shepherd as co-host would be great additions to The View panel.
Man this show is annoying and boring. I think Sherri is an idiot. They should add that guy from the Soup on E! Or maybe Elisabeth’s husband…he will probably be cut in training camp and need of a job soon…
Please. Get Elisabeth off the show. She doesn’t know how to shut up, or let anyone else talk. As long as she’s there, I won’t be watching.
I think Kathy Griffin, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy and Ross the intern would be fabulous! Even better, bring back Rosie.
Jacque Reid and Gayle King have been the two best guest hosts I’ve seen. Funny, confident and they hold their place amongst the others. I was truly impressed with Reid because she isn’t a national celebrity, and she was truly compelling and a fun addition.
I also like Reid because she’s a journalist, going back to the mold of Viera, who is greatly missed.
I think they will go with Whoopi or Gayle King. I don’t watch it every day, but those are the only two guest moderators, unless I am mistaken. They need to stay away from Sherri Shepherd — she is unintelligent, overbearing, and even more illogical/inconsistent than Elizabeth. Those 2 get to compete for the Brainless Waste of Space Award. It would be ridiculous irony if Kathy Griffin took the Star Jones seat!!! I’d love to have a daily dose of the fantastic Griffin, though I don’t really see her doing it (is it a step up if she isn’t even moderator?). I think they will go with safe for moderator (Whoopi/Gayle, both intelligent, reasoned, kind of centrist, balanced), and use Star’s seat for the “unhinged ratings grabber” seat. Like Kathy. I say it with love.
Dream Team: Rosie, Ross, Whoopi, and Gayle King/Kathy Griffin (switching off to mix things up and to give each a chance to continue other work).
My dream team consists of anyone except Elisabeth. She constantly talks over everyone and is extremely annoying. She needs to learn how to listen and give someone else a chance to speak once in a while.
I like Whoopie, Gayle King, Kathy Griffin, and Marie Osmond. Let Ross sub during vacations or time off.
Sharon Osbourne. She’s already done the tv talk show, so she knows how to work a camera. If she had a team to work with, I think The View could be very sucessful.

Though considering the front page has a “Where are they now?” featuring Shia Leboeuf and Amanda Bynes (Oh, there they are! I forgot to look at next week’s “top three” at the box office.), I see that the summer is hitting content generation a little hard… More music or book coverage maybe? Just cause the TV seasons are slow for a while doesn’t mean that we still need 90% of the Popwatch posts to be TV focused. Lily’s got a nubbin, you know?
Ross the intern was very good yesterday, why does it have to be a “woman”? I like Gayle King also, she was extremely good at handling the Hasslebot.
Gayle would be an excelent moderator, and we would finally get an actual journalist to fill Merideth’s shoes.
I watched every show with Rosie, but only watched a few shows post-Rosie. The only cohost I found entertaining was Kathy Griffin.
I could see myself watching again with: Whoopi, Kathy G., Joy, Gayle king (they should get rid of Bitsy – she adds nothing to the table and talks over everybody with a rabid, high pitched chipmunk-like delivery.) I doubt that I’d bother watching the show without a (reasonably) unfettered Kathy Griffin though. Otherwise it’s too prim and zzzzzzzzz.
I watch the View every day and have seen all of the guest co-hosts. I think Gayle King (as moderator) and Kathy Griffin would be a powerful combo.
I think Kathy Griffin,Joy, Gayle and someone not as scattered brained as Elizabeth . Ross would be a good sub.
PLEASE ABC don’t brig Eliz back after babys born. She acts like such a moron.
She probably isn’t in the running, but I thought Marie Osmond was actually quite good on the day she hosted. She was funny and honest and stood up to Elizabeth when she disagreed with her.

Sherri Shepard has proved she can handle herself on that panel. And Whoopi Goldberg is awesome as the mediator. She rocks.
PS to my earlier comment: I will quit watching if Kathy Griffin gets the job. She disgusts me.
I am also of the opinion that it’s time to let Elisabeth AND Joy go. Then the slate is clean for a new and exciting mix of women.
I know she’s probably never been in the running, but I think Bonnie Hunt would be a great option. She’s quick witted and easy going, and would be a smart addition to the group.
Gayle King! But if the ratings don’t pick up after she joins, she should bail before the sinking ship drags her down.
Kathy Griffin would also be good–her USO tours and such demonstrate that she’s more substantial than the “D-List” show would indicate, plus she is funny and would be a good foil for Elisabeth.
So, Gayle and Kathy. Those are my choices too. They better do something soon–I saw this show recently and it was dull as dirt.

I like Elizabeth. Stop with all the insults. Afterall, that is not what this popwatch is about, right? My vote, as if it matters, is with Sherri.
