I’m so glad ya’ll brought up the J-Hol pic. Somebody at EW better come correct. The performance was unbelievable. I like to see two strong women letting loose like that. Makes you wanna stand up.
There was a lot to like about the performances. But, alas, it is the standard in this country to look the founders of most of the musical genres that exist here in the eyes and remind them that they are second best. Thanks for the inspiration, now move over so we can copy your stuff and make millions. BET celebrated the respectful Robin Thicke, as they should have. Let the rest of the world have that silly ex-boy band brat. No one seems to mention that Robin Thicke had the #1 single on the Urban charts for like 2 months but they sure make a lot of noise everytime MonkeyBoy Timberfake sneezes. Someone stop me, I’m ranting.
As a huge fan of R&B, I have to agree with some of the posts here; EW needs to give the BET awards some respect, more than you have in the past. And, I say again, how about sending someone to cover the Essence festival the way you do when any rock or pop festival comes around? Step up to the plate!
Bookworm: Why don’t you worm your way back to the gutter where you crawled from? Jennifer Hudson sure has many haters. Your jealousy is not cute. Stop being bitter.

That’s a bad picture of Miss Holiday. She has one of the most amazing ranges on this planet, but she looks goofy in the picture.
I agree with everyone. BET has a TON of problems, but the BET awards have been good every year they have been on and they actually carry themselves with some dignity unlike MTV. If you can stoop to MTV, than surely you can recognize BET. Great performances this year save 50.
(I’m obsessed with this post) Was anybody else kinda disgusted that after the beautiful Gerald Levert tribute, they had Fiddy and his janky self perform. That really ruined the positive vibe last night. You don’t come out there cursing when Diana Ross (with her grandchildren, mind you), Al Sharpton, Stevie Wonder, and the gospel contingent are in the house. Have some respect for your elders. Janky!
And I have to co-sign on Joe C’s suggestion about the Essence Music Festival. EW, you’ve got to check it out. It’s always amazing. I’m so disappointed I can’t be there this year. Why don’t you go there for me? Please!
I had to Google Gerald Levert after the awards to figure out who he was, but now that I think back on it yeah there could have been a better time for the 50 performance. Well, when is there ever a GOOD time for a 50 performance?
50 cents is trash, plain and simple. And there are many who love this garbarge. Respect? Ha! It is a thing of the past for many out there today.
