OH, yeah…that’s 15 weeks for “we belong together” NOT that overplayed puked up cheerleading anthem that was nothing but a “We Will Rock You” knock off…and a cheap one at that.
I think “Umbrella” has been out longer than a summer song should be. I remember hearing it no later than April, and I think it’s only reached it’s peak of popularity in the past month.
I think it’s a bit to early to name it the Summer Song.
Thank you Matthew. Just because radios overplay a spring song into summer, that does not make it a summer song.
Go Aramis! ‘We Belong Together’ was the summer jam of 2005(even though I did like Hollaback Girl). As for Beyonce, sorry, nice person, average songs, ‘Crazy in Love’ sounds like every other song she’s put out, catchy and forgettable.
As for ‘Umbrella’, yeah I like that song a lot. Song of the summer? I still like Avril’s ‘Girlfriend’ even though that came out in the spring, I guess.
I’m so sick of “Umbrella,” and I only liked it for about five minutes to begin with. The chorus is good, but the verses . . . the lyrics are so bad that anyone over 13 would feel stupid singing along to them. Besides, why are we using radio play to gauge the best songs of summer? Everyone knows radio blows these days.
i believe the summer song of 2005 was “everytime we touch” by cascada? escada? something like that.
“Umbrella” is dangerously catchy. I hate it because I can’t even say the word “umbrella” anymore without getting that damn song stuck in my head. And it’s been raining a lot where I live so I’m not really so fond of Rhianna and her song.
And is “Umbrella” really a “summer song”? It came out in the summer, sure, but it just doesn’t feel right. I think we could do better than “Umbrella” for summer ’07.
For everyone arguing what is going to THE summer song of 2007, I shall say this, if Rihanna is #1 again this week on the Billboard charts, which i suspect she may be, that will give her 5 weeks at #1. Now to be fair, that gives up roughly 9 weeks in July & August for another song to not only be released but stay at #1 for then I suppose 6 weeks or more in order to best Rihanna’s reign. The only song I possibly seeing saddling up could theoretically be Fergie’s “Big Girls Don’t Cry”, but I don’t see that song sitting on the summit for very long. I mean yes, last summer we got hit with new tunes from Beyonce, Fergie & justin right around 4th of July, but the only new tune that could pop up that MAY (and I say that lightly) be interesting enough to be a hit, could be the 1st single Jennifer Lopez is supposed to be releasing from her new all-English dance album. But there is no name for the single or a release date for the album as of yet, so that seems very unlikely.
Since I can’t stand songs with terrible singers, “Umbrella” is decidedly NOT my summer song. I’d nominate Maroon 5 or Daughtry… although “Home” is near it’s saturation point. I think whatever single Maroon 5 chooses next will be as played as “Makes Me Wonder” and either could be a “song of summer”. “Big Girls Don’t Cry” is getting played a lot too, and unlike Rihanna, Fergie has a pretty good instrument (although it’s sadly under-used what with all her spelling songs). “Never Again”… I really want it to do well but the truth is, it’s not catchy enough. The verses are hard to sing along with, and in my opinion what an official song of summer comes down to is singalongability. =)
Looks great. i was hoping to also view it on instyles site, but it doesnt seem to work.
Would be nice if Instyle could get their site to work
