Today's Funnies: 'Paranoid' Prussians and pup

Tagged:

History repeats itself, said Marx, first as tragedy, then as farce. So it is with Black Sabbath’s grim 1970 metal masterpiece "Paranoid," covered almost immediately by campy, mod Germans, who rewrote the lyrics to reference Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s "The Hound of the Baskervilles," in this otherwordly TV clip. Watch for the exquisitely bored dog, whose pug mug totally makes this clip.

They always say that you shouldn’t make too much fun of how people looked “back then”, cuz it’ll happen to you eventually. I think there should be an exception made for the 70s, though, cuz I can hardly imagine anything being as weird or dorky as the 70s…except maybe the 80s! LOL

    Funny? Not so much.

But this is a pattern. We laugh at what our parents wore back in the day, but the fashion seems to comeback in a slightly different form. Bell bottoms, hip huggers, skater sneakers, clogs, and peasant blouses all made comebacks. Our kids are going to laugh too, but I bet you that low rider jeans are going to make a comeback many years from now all thougn I don’t like them.
I thought that this clip was funny because if you look at the singers eyes, they are having difficulty reading from the teleprompter. It looks like bad German Karaoke! I am guessing that producers had to change the lyrics because the show was for all ages and a song about a guy who is going insane did not mix.

Jeez, how can you miss the funny? The joke isn’t that fashion has changed. It’s more that the people in the clip all look rather confused, uncomfortable, out-of-place and/or bored. And why the pug dog? Maybe people have no idea what the Hound of the Baskervilles is about – but it’s not this pug dog. Bizarre!

It’s this sort of weirdness that makes Youtube such an essential part of our lives.
