Friday Night Lights, Gilmore Girls, Ugly Betty, Battlestar Galactica. We all know which shows and casts deeply deserve (but probably won’t get) Emmy nods this year. Heck, we’ve filled up our message boards the last two Fridays discussing the issue. But for every Connie Britton or Michael Emerson or Becki Newton who lands a nomination, another hopeful will be denied.
The good news is that scads of last year’s nominated shows — including The West Wing, Will & Grace, Six Feet Under, Huff, and Malcolm in the Middle — are no longer around, which should free up space for a fresh batch of contenders. But it’s still hard to have much faith in the folks at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, so why not let them know which old warhorses and popular newcomers are not quite Emmy-worthy?
If I had to DQ a series or actor from scoring a nomination, I’d go with NBC’s enjoyable but inconsistent Heroes. Sure, I’ve never missed an episode. And yes, the freshman series had share of enthralling moments (particularly the "Save the Cheerleader" story arc). But Heroes also suffers from some of the clunkiest dialogue on television, not to mention the fact that its trio of pretty-haired male cast members (Sendhil Ramamurthy, Milo Ventimiglia, Santiago Cabrera) all display the kind of limited emotional range that would make them great candidates for The Bachelor but certainly not for television’s most coveted acting prize. Are there any other shows or actors you’re hoping will be denied come July 19? Unleash your inner "bad cop" in the comments section below!

I agree. The only person from ‘Heroes’ that might deserve a nomination is Masi Oka.
Without a doubt, 24 should get no nominations whatsoever; rather it should get a big beyotch-slap for it’s boring lame season six that just ended.
As much as I love Mariska Hargitay, I feel like now that they’ve recognized her she’ll become a perennial nominee, like Candice Bergen or David Hyde Pierce. This season of SVU wasn’t so great, and even though they gave her lots of anguished close-ups she’s done better work. Leave a slot free for someone else.
I think it was an off-year for Grey’s too, and for Jeremy Piven and Patricia Arquette.
Basically, nothing on CBS should get a recognition. no csi, no 2.5 men…
Gilmore Girls and Desperate Housewives. I love Gilmore, but this wasn’t its year. And DH just keeps getting worse every season.
Also Two and a Half Men and all its actors. Didn’t this get nominated last year? Just no. No No NO!
Katherine Heigl. I use to like Izzie. No so much anymore.
Boston Legal. Who watches this show???
CSI-anything. Bleh…talk about L&O knockoffs. But if I had to choose shows that should be DENIED some love, I’d go with past Emmy favorites: The New Adventures of Old Christine, Lost, L&O (loved, but old). I’d also go with the garb that seems speicifically geared toward Emmy gold: Brothers & Sisters, Desperate Housewives (love! the show, but other than rooting for a Guest Actress Emmy for Lauire Metcalf, I can’t see it getting anything else), Lost (yes, I’m mentioning it again), Grey’s Anatomy (love the show, but way too ostentatious for an Emmy). Here’s what I’d like to see get a nod (which is like a broken record but oh well):
Lauren Graham!!!!!
Gilmore Girls
Battlestar Galactica
Mike C. Hall in “Dexter”
Julie Benz (support actress) in “Dexter”
Dexter
The Tudors
Van L. Williams in “Ugly Betty”
Rebecca Romjin in “Ugly Betty”
The kid who plays Justin in “Ugly Betty”
Ugly Betty
Tina Fey (writing Emmy) for “30 Rock”
Alec Baldwin for “30 Rock”
30 Rock
I can go on…
Please, I do not want Two and a Half Men, 24, Gilmore Girls or any of the Law & Orders and CSIs to get nominated. And I can’t really see Heroes or Grey’s Anatomy getting nominated either
Ali Larter, Jeremy Piven, Elizabeth Mitchell and Laurie Metcalfe should get nominated though
PLEASE no nominees from Desperate Housewives this year. All of the main actors were horrible this year, particularly Felicity Huffman, and the only person from the show who deserves any recognition is Laurie Metcalfe for her hilarious turn as a psycho-grocery shopping-shooting spree wife (“We’re having a special today on NOT getting shot, but it’s only available at the BACK of the store!”)
Agreed on the Mariska Hargitay… love her, but not her strongest year. Ditto w/Heroes and everyone on it. Fun, but VERY inconsistent. Finally, I’d also like to nix 2 1/2 Men… I know I’m in the minority, but I’ve never found it funny.
Everyone on Ugly Betty deserves a nod, but to single out a few: America Ferrara, Becki Newton, and Vanessa L. Williams. I also think while Grey’s Anatomy had a lackluster second half of the season, the first half was fantastic and Ellen Pompeo did some FANTASTIC work. Katherine Heigl will probably get a nod just b/c of “Knocked Up” doing so well at the box office, but she did better work during season 2.
Let me make a stipulation first: I love “Medium.” I’m a fan of the show, love the characters, love the stories and I think Jake Weber should get a nomination. But I cannot condone Patricia Arquette getting a nomination. She’s decent but limited. When she really has to get emotional or passionate, she comes off as comatose or drugged.
While Lauren Graham should get a nomination (and win), David Rosenthal should not, for any episode he’s written this season. I’d hate to see the wrong person win for the right show.
And oh yes, don’t nominate any of the Desperate Housewives chicks.
Oh, and I forgot… Lost was amazing after it came back from it’s mini-arc in the fall. I know a lot of people complained, but that’s just because they are far too impatient. Elizabeth Mitchell, Michael Emerson and Matthew Fox all deserve nominations. Especially Mitchell.
Gilmore Girls should get the right send off for all of its stars.
DH is the most annoying show on the air.
Grey’s should get nods for Ellen, Patrick, Chandra, Sandra, TR and Katherine.
nice site you have, have a look at http://badmovieknights.com/ when you get time
!
If The Wire doesn’t get nominated for anything (especially anything giving to the ensemble cast), I am done with any award show!! IT’S THE BEST SHOW ON TV PERIOD!!!
