Trailer Blazer: 'The Invasion'

I’m in the mood for lists today, and I think that’s a good enough excuse to rank (from favorite to least) the exceedingly popular Nicole Kidman Action Figure Line ™.

1- Horror/Thriller Nicole (The Others, The Interpreter, Birthday Girl)
2- Musical! Nicole! (Moulin Rouge)
3- Night Glamour Nicole (various red-carpet events)
4- Serious Thespian Nicole (The Human Stain, Eyes Wide Shut)
5- Tabloid Nicole (sigh)
6- "Comedy" Nicole (The Stepford Wives, Bewitched)

Keeping my preference for the Horror/Thriller model, I hope you’ll understand my excitement about Nic’s upcoming vehicle The Invasion (opening Aug. 17), an update of Invasion of the Body Snatchers co-starring Daniel Craig. Not even the fact that it began shooting in September 2005 and has gone through dreaded "reshoots" can diminish my eagerness to see this. Come on, now, the trailer (embedded below, courtesy of AOL Movies) doesn’t look half bad, especially that moment with Nicole trying not to betray her human emotion while those folks march off a roof to their imminent death. Creepy!

The trailer does look pretty good – but what is with having the three leads – 2 Brits and an Australian – playing Americans? How about giving the roles to American actors? It drives me crazy.

this has been getting terrible buzz, but it was filmed in my area so i’ve got my fingers crossed. my favorite nicole is ‘dutiful ex-wife of crazy scientology star who won’t spill the beans on his sordid secret life no matter how much we all want her to’

Your list should include ‘To Die For’ for Tabloid Nicole.

Im a little confused… Are they zombies??? I don’t know about this one. Remakes haven’t exactly been Nicole’s thing, you know? And horror movies are in a slump. (See previous post).

You should like the upcoming Golden Compass, Slezak, since that’s basically a mix of Horror/Thriller Nicole (emphasis on the thriller), Night (and Day) Glamour Nicole, and Serious Thespian Nicole.

Acting up – if Renee Zellweger can play Bridget Jones, Brits, Aussies, Kiwis, and South Africans can play Americans.
(Why don’t South Africans have a cool nickname?)

They’re not supposed to be zombies, more like intelligent alien parasites, but the dog pile on the car is a page out of the zombie playbook (Gee, why not break the window and open the door first?). But it does look scary. When those people walk off the roof and turn into rubbery CGI cartoons, it gives me the shivers.

I’m there, I would go see Nicole read from a phone book though, So I am not the best judge.

MOzz – I’m with you there. I’ve faithfully seen every Nic-flick good or bad in the theater. This one actually looks awesome. And might I say, any sci-fi horror flick with a cameo from Veronica Cartwright has my name written all over it for movie attendance.

Acting up: I’d LOVE to know what American actors you’d think would be able to handle these roles? Lindsay Lohan? Justin Timberlake?

  • Shirley

I’m not her biggest fan, but I’m definitely going to this movie.

I’m not a huge Kidman fan either, and I don’t usually do remakes, especially of movies that are personal faves, like the orginal “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”. But I liked the Kaufman remake more than I expected, the trailer looks very intriguing, and I can’t say no to Daniel Craig, Jeremy Northam and Jeffrey Wright. I also like how they’ve continued the cameo tradition: Kevin McCarthy in the ’78 remake and now Veronica Cartwright in this one. I’m just going to pretend the misguided “Body Snatchers” from 1993 never existed…

People jumping off the building….. IM SO THERE.

  • Jason

Yeah, because you know the FOURTH version of a movie is going to be the best one…

  • Mozz

Love the trailer, but sorta insulted for her that you left out THE HOURS out of Serious Thespian nicole… i mean, what does the girl have to do to get some respect, WIN AN OSCAR? oh, right, been there done that.
