The man was fantastic in, what is probably, my favorite X-Files episode of all time (Jesse Ventura! Alex Trebek!) and about a year or two ago I started grooving to his Match Game stylings (along with cohort Brett Summers). Good times, and he’ll be missed.
Charles Nelson Reilly and Paul Lynde were two reasons why it was cool to be a kid in the ’70s. I remember Match Game so well. My whole family just loved that show. I’d love to see that documentary; it looks like a blast. Rest in total peace, Mr. Reilly, you will be sorely missed.
He made me laugh. Like others, I had no idea he was gay until I was much older, and even then… Well, he and Paul Lynde made gay cool. Wonderful, smart & fun – RIP.
rip charles nelson reilly. you’ve given me many a laugh on a lazy saturday when match game is on.
I mostly remember Charles from “Match Game” (and, of course, “Match Game PM”) and not understanding half the jokes because they just flew over my young head. But his energy and delivery would constantly have me rolling on the floor laughing. It’s weird how you forget about someone for so long and then, when they are gone, you suddenly miss them. Rest in peace, Charles Nelson Reilly.
Charles Nelson Reilly like Paul Lind was a funny man. His sexual orientation, while perhaps there, was just a part of a talented, versatile man and perhaps added to it.
