Every festival has its tipping point, when thestreets empty, the parties quiet, and you start to wonder if they calledoff the damn thing early and didn’t bother to let you know. My guttells me today is the day that happens. Sure, I saw a great movie (an animated flick called Persepolis, based on Marjane Satrapi’s graphic novel about her childhood in Iran). And yeah, Missywill be going to the big amFAR benefit this evening, which always hasscads of stars. But after tonight the calendar is looking mighty empty. Not that we won’t try and get in some kind of trouble, of course.
Which, come to think of it, is exactly what we didlast night. Check out everything that was going down: The Oceans 13crew was milling around the Hotel du Cap (think the fanciest hotel youhave ever seen, multiply that times 100, add a few sheiks and GeorgeClooney, and you get the general idea). There was a Death Proof soirée.(Quentin Tarantino [pictured, second from left, with Eli Roth, Harvey Weinstein, and Rosario Dawson] + Weinstein Co. publicity booze budget + hundreds of people= a party that may still be going on as you read this.) And evenbetter, there was the elegant New Line 40th anniversary party, whichunfolded on the lawn of an old Rothschild estate and saw Daniel Craig(who stars in New Line’s upcoming His Dark Materials franchise) wandering around, looking dapper, drink in hand, and every bit themovie star. It was the ultimate Cannes moment. James Bond sippingchampagne on a stunning estate. How could you not swoon?
Which leads me to my next question, PopWatchers: anyone out there know a good hangover cure?

Hair of the dog, dude, hair of the dog.
The calendar looks empty? To you maybe – but it’s the Ocean’s 13 premiere tomorrow, which will be the biggest bash in Cannes this year.
You know what is good for a hangover? Drinking heavy the night before.
Wow, hanging at the fanciest hotel ever with Clooney and seeing Daniel Craig at an estate? Rough life, dude, rough life. And my hangover cure? Advil and lemon-lime Gatorade at regular intervals.
water, sleep and positive thinking
Alka Seltzer Morning Relief. I’ve found nothing better to get me through the day following a hard night.
(And then there’s not drinking to excess to begin with, but I’m not always that smart…)
So, Daniel, you’re saying that the day after you were hanging out in a fantabulous hotel with sheiks, Clooney and Co., spotting James Bond, and spending time at a party with Tarantino and friends was slow?
Um, isn’t EVERY DAY FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE after that gonna be a bit ho-hum?
Hangover cure: Coca-Cola and Advil all day
Dude, tell us more about Persepolis. Didn’t know they were making it a movie. Also, taking Chaser pills while you’re drinking and then hitting the Emergen-C the next morning. Seriously, works like a charm, but you gotta be pro-active. Available at all fine GNC stores and whatnot.
