I’m addicted to the Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip song "Thou Shalt Always Kill" because the lyrics are infectious (plus he’s got a crazy Cockney accent, but that’s another story)! The first time I heard it, I almost had a car accident laughing. The second time I almost did too because I was listening so intently to catch EVERY genius line he spat out. How does he speak soooo fast??!!
Originally, I was going to have you PopWatchers tell me which line is your favorite; mine is a toss-up between the lowbrow "Thou shalt not judge a book by its cover/Thou shalt not judge Lethal Weapon by Danny Glover" and "Thou shalt not use poetry, art or music to get into girls’ pants/Use it to get into their heads." Anyway, my editor and I decided that it would be even better to play the game called What Do You, PopWatchers, Insist Thou Shalt Not Do? If you haven’t heard the song already, please give it a listen before you offer your own pop-cultural commandments. I’ll get the ball rolling:
Thou shalt not hate this song!

Though shalt not wear a belt around your hips.
Thou shalt not speak the names “Lindsay Lohan” or “Paris Hilton”.
The Beatles were just a band.
“B*tches, bling, and guns were not a part of the 4 elements!” YES!
Women, thou shalt not demean yourself: you are more than a rump shaker or place on which to pour champagne.
Katy, that should be “its cover,” not “it’s cover.” It’s basic grammar to know the difference.
um… ok, back to the point. Thou shall not always correct ones grammer.
That was painful. It’s like the demon love child of I’m Too Sexy and The Macarena.
“Thou shall not watch Hollyoaks”. How true.
Thou shalt not read a book because Oprah recommends it.
Thou shalt not watch American Idol and expect it to be good.
I hadn’t heard that before, but I love it and it will require many more listens so I can memorize it. (I’m kidding about the memorizing bit… a little…) He hit so many things just dead on in that song!
Thou shalt never refer to Avril Lavigne’s music as “edgey” or “punk”.
Thou shalt not laugh at Dane Cook for he is not funny.
Women, thou shalt find worth in thyself and stop letting the media tell you that you need to be a certain way in order to be loved by others.
That was awesome! Ha! Thou shalt not overuse exclamation marks in emails!!!!
I’ve been listening to this song for the past few months on BBC’s Radio 1, and I loved it the first time I heard it. I do have one question though, why does he end the song with “Thou shall always kill”? Doesn’t that go against the nature of the whole song? Any suggestions?
Thou shalt not skip an album just because Pitchfork gave it a bad grade.
Thou shalt not judge a tv show by its pilot alone.
no brand – i’m with you about avril lavigne!
Thou shalt not use the phrase “Jump The Shark” and consider it to be clever, cogent TV commentary. Thou shalt not use that phrase at all….EVER!
Like those lines, Katy, but I’m partial to “Thou shalt not question Stephen Fry” and “Thou shalt not stop liking a band because they become popular.”
My contribution? “Thou shalt not assume that famous people know any better than you do.”
thou shall not forward this video onto others.
thou shall stop drinking the kool-air and admit it sucks.
Thou shalt not sleep with your best friend’s husband especially when you all work at the same office.
Catchy. I like it.
Thou shalt not try to remake this song or vid.
Darmini, he was standing behind the seal of the President of the United States when he said “Thou shalt always kill.”
Thou shalt continually question your government.
Thou shalt demand human rights for detainees at Guantanamo.
Thou shalt reach out to Iraqi citizens and aplologize for completely bollixing their entire country and needlesssly killing hundreds of thousands of their people.
Thou shalt not hide behind the coward’s standard of patriotism, but instead be a true patriot and stand up against tyranny.
Oh, and thou shalt never purchase a tabloid magazine, not even to snark about it with your hip friends.
Fight the power!
Thou shalt not hate a song by a band just because all of their others ones are crap.
Great song and video . . . thanks for posting it . . . my favorite line: “Thou shall not stop liking a band just because they became popular.” My contribution to the discussion: I would do a “they are just a band” type thing about famous girls . . . “Thou shall not strive to be anything like Paris Hilton. She is just a girl. Lindsey Lohan, just a girl. Britany Spears, just a girl. Nicole Ritchie, just a girl” I could go on and on.
I am converting to the church of Kaybar! HALLELUJAH!!!!
I downloaded this song a fortnight ago i think, after reading a review of it on a British mag and have completely forgotten about it after one listen until you mentioned it. Just listened to it again and for some reason(just like the first time around) ”Thou shall not question Stephen Fry” made me laugh! Other than that i like ”Beatles was just a band” and the relentless beat is pretty good. But doesn’t really trigger repeat listening, i dunno.
Infectious lyrics and clever lines, but as a song, I can’t see listening to it more than twice. It’s shades of ‘Everybody’s Free to Wear Sunscreen.’ Plus, do the British really revere Oasis that much? I can see Radiohead, The Clash, Beatles, etc., but Oasis? First and second CDs had some catchy alternative gems and The Masterplan was, imho, underrated, but it seems weird to group them with artists whose music has proven to stand the test of time to a greater degree.
Thou shalt put Dan le Sac and Amy Winehouse together just to duel hardcore British accents for the amusement of thier US fans

way to go out on a limb there buddy
Kyle — Your Oasis question reminded me of this survey (of British people, I presume) that put Oasis’ album “Definitely Maybe” as the No. 1 of all time. Two Oasis albums are in the top 10. So, at least according to that survey, yes they apparently revere Oasis quite a bit. The BBC story is here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/music/5037792.stm
