Much as I (and many other Lost-ies) would like to continue watching Lost for years to come, I’m actually relieved by the announcement that the Read the full post.

I think that idea totally blows mud!
So now we have to wait 3 more seasons (instead of 2) for a skimpy season of only 16 episode – so ABC can keep it around for a few more years???
    Repeat: BLOWS MUD.
Not only do we have to wait until next February for new episodes but – oh, forget it!
I’m a loyal viewer and fan – but I GUARANTEE you the ratings will plummet (even more) from the casual viewers who – like the island of “Lost” itself – doesn’t even know the show exits!

I think it is a great idea for the writers to decide when the show should end. I feel like Alias unravelled at the end because JJ had never expected it to last as long as it did. He lost sight of what the point was going to be. (He also got distracted by a little show named Lost. Anyone notice that as SOON as he started working on Lost, Alias started sucking? That’s when it jumped the shark…after the Season 2 finale.) Anyway, I hope that Lost fans will feel satisfied when it ends. The writers can look ahead now, and make sure that they answer all the questions that they have posed in the show thus far.

I think it’s probably a good idea. When I first found out that the British “The Office” was such a limited-run show, I was shocked, but it certainly helps encourage quality and leaves people wanting more, which is good if there are specials or spin-offs. I think “Smallville” would have benefited from being a four or five season show, for instance. On the other hand, some shows can keep going forever, like soap operas and “ER”. Their quality is debatable, but I guess people still watch…

Good point about “Alias”, by the way!

All I hear from this news is that there are going to be 36 Wednesdays a year for the next three years that I am guaranteed not to have any answers. And I thought that 10 months between Battlestar Gallactica episodes sucked!

Does it really matter? As long as the writing is good, it really doesn’t matter how long a show stays on the air.

PRISON BREAK! Prison Break certainly needs an end date

I think it’s great they’ve set an end date. I was realllly frustrated at the beginning of the season – who wasn’t – but I stuck it out and am happy I did. Knowing there is an end date will keep me sticking with the show, and gives me confidence that it won’t be dragged out forever and ruined like Twin Peaks and X Files.

As a fan, I love this deal. I think this will make it less likely that the show suffers from the two most common quality killers: 1) Wandering aimlessly and 2) having to wrap too much up too fast.

As a business decision, I’m less sure. Who knows what the audience will be? Maybe, as it has been suggested, people will skip the next two seasons knowing they can always tune into the last.

I think the show needs some big “event” episodes to grow interest. Regardless, I imagine they should get decent ratings for the series finale.

As for shows like Drive and Daybreak, those show should definitely start with a 5-6 episode arc, like a mini-series. Give the loyal viewers a satisfactory mini-end. Then, if the ratings were good, make a new arc
