So a few months back, EW.com tried out a nifty new feature in which O.C. fans got their questions answered by series creator Josh Schwartz — and that got us thinking of approaching other pop-culture favorites in the same way. It’s a win-win, if you’ll excuse the expression: It turns out you PopWatchers have some mad interviewing skillz, and by putting you to work, it allows me to take the occasional two-hour lunch break…spend more time reenacting cherished Arrested Development scenes with Annie “plate or platter” Barrett…brainstorm new adjectives with which to describe the current crop of American Idol finalists. So anyhow, we’re hoping your next interview subject will be Heroes‘ Masi Oka, whose winning portrayal of Hiro Nakamura has made him one of the biggest breakout stars of the current TV season. Try to be as specific as possible with your questions, and keep in mind we’ll be choosing career-related questions over personal ones. (In other words, we’re not subjecting him to the old “are you single?” routine.) So go ahead and post your best questions for Masi Oka about his career, his work on Heroes, and the burden of saving the planet — though don’t expect to ask a spoiler-y question and get an answer!
Ask Masi Oka anything! (Sort of)

Yay!! I’m the first. So, my question is: Do you think now that your acting career has blasted off, you will stop doing graphics for movies? Your work in the Star Wars movies and A Perfect Storm was excellent.
Do you like that your character is the primary source of comic relief on the show or do you worry that he’s going to become too much comedy and not enough drama?
How would you compare the cameraderie of working with some of the best CGI wizards in the world, to being a member of the hottest new ensamble cast on television?
You’ve managed to create almost entirely distinct characters with Hiro and Future Hiro. Is it difficult to go between the two roles? I’m looking forward to more of Future Hiro.
Would it be possible for Hiro to give the name of the English language school to Jin from Lost. Hiro has taken to English much quicker than Jin.
1) Back in 1987, you were on the cover of Time Magazine as one of “Those Asian American Whiz Kids”. Have you kept in touch with the other kids on the cover and if so what are they up to?
2) You’ve been Technical Director for a number of projects at ILM, a job most geeks would die for. Which would you rather win an Oscar for: Best Special Effects or Best Actor?
Have you had any sword training? Will we get to see Hiro kick some bad-guy butt?
Oohh, Stacey — good question!
Do you really like waffles?
Will you be doing any more guest spots on Scrubs?
How has being cast on “Heroes” changed your career (such as, are you getting more movie offers, etc.)?
How difficult is it to work with James Kyson Lee who’s Korean (and I assume speaks fluent Korean) and have him communicate in Nipponggo? Do you coach him or does he have a language coach? Do you have to translate his script too?
Stacey and Craig S. . . . great questions. Those were the two questions that I was going to post . . . EW please be sure that these two questions are among the ones that Masi is asked!
How far in advance do the writers tell you about your character’s storylines? (in other words, how secretive are they about your upcoming scripts?)
Do you prefer the acting portion of your career to the creative graphic portion? Do you feel that having a background in the production of a sci-fi film or action film better prepared you to act in a sci-fi/action series?
i don’t understand the question, and i won’t respond to it.
Dangit Rocky! You beat me to it!
I remember you got an early start on the show “Scrubs,” how about a cameo back on the show as Hiro. Think that can be a possibility with all of the fantasy sequences?
Did you grow up in the US and Japan? My husband (who is also Japanese-American) says your Japanese accent is as true as your American accent. Do you have family in both places?
[Hey - it's not "are you single?" AND I really am curious.]
Hiro-
Tina Fey’s made a point to talk up your series (and your character in particular) on 30Rock. What shows do you all watch? Are there plans to have any 30 Rock cameos in future NYC episodes?
Last question, do you think Melinda and Chris on Amercian Idol are an item?
What summer movie are you most looking forward to? There are tons coming out!
Masi, the answer to this question could be kind of lengthy depending on your answer, but how do you feel about being THE MOST recognizable face of Asian American actors in the U.S. when a year ago, barely anyone knew who you were? P.S. as a self-professed comic book geek, THANK YOU for your portrayal of Hiro as a fun-loving adventurer!
Are there any characters on the show (other than the endearing Hiro, of course) whose storylines you find particularly interesting, or any actors on the show whose work you’ve particularly liked?
1) CW asked how much in advance you get info about your own storyline. Along those same lines, how much do you know about the other storylines on the show – or are you kept pretty much in the dark on those?
2) You and Adrian Passdar seem to have an incredibly good time working together – and I’ve heard that you two are somewhat known for improvising. Do you two plan any of it out in advance, or does one of you just throw something out and the other react?
3) Lastly, not a question, but thank you for making a character who takes such absolute JOY in being a superhero and who takes his responsibilities so seriously. You’re a lot more than just comic relief, in many ways, you’re the heart of the show. Thanks for helping make it so much fun for the rest of us!
Are you doing anything for ILM lately? If so, what films are you working on?
Were you nervous when many critics – such as EW’s Lynette Rice – expected “Heroes” to quickly fail?
First, an obvious question: I know you used to do work for ILM; do you like doing that or do you like acting better?
Also, I heard Hiro was going to travel into the past next season; how do you feel about that?
And this is my last question, I swear! If you had the chance to be on Star Trek, would you take it?
And this isn’t a question, but I love your George Takei impersonation
You previously worked with Grant Imahara on the “Star Wars” prequels and “Terminator 3″. Were you two friends? And if you were asked to be on a special episode of “Mythbusters” (the show Grant co-hosts), would you?
Ethnicity/Age/Gender aside if you could play any character other than Hiro on Heroes, who would you play and why?
You’ve previously meantioned being interesting in producing/directing if your acting career didn’t go anywhere. Do you still have plans to do this and do you have anything at the moment you’re activly working on, like a script?
