It’s been a few weeks since I last tuned in to The View, so I thought I’d try to catch it this morning in the hopes of witnessing the start of a new Rosie feud, or at least a meltdown from the Hasselbot. Sad to say, however, I saw none of the above. Whoopi Goldberg, sitting in as guest host alongside Ro, Joy, and Elisabeth, dominated much of the conversation during a dull-as-dry-toast edition of Hot Topics, taking a full three minutes to do an infomercial for L.A. Weight Loss (she’s lost 43 pounds, by the bye), then rambling on about Imus-gate and concluding the fired shock-jock should’ve been suspended for a year and forced to teach a class at Rutgers. Alrighty, then! Next, a discussion of the study linking cellphones to the disappearance of North American and European honeybees led Joy (whose red, white, and gold, diamond-patterned shirt caused a strange rippling effect on camera) to the conclusion that cellphones and air conditioners are destroying modern middle-class life — and I think she was only partially joking. Oh, Rosie, why so quiet today?
A visit from Sigourney Weaver, there to promote two new films (The TV Set and Snow Cake), resulted in a photo finish for worst interview question — I’ll let you make the call:
1) Joy: "You were funny in Working Girl, too, when you played that same type [of character as in The TV Set]. You’re very good with comedy and drama. Very good with both. You can do either!"*
2) Elisabeth: "Do people still associate you with Ripley from the Alien films?"
Finally, the closing credits featured a whopper of a double-entendreafter Rosie thanked Whoopi for filling in on the panel, and Whoopi saidshe was always happy to do so.
Joy: "Do you love to come?"
Whoopi: "I do love to come!"
Rosie: [Suggestively.] "Yes she does. Who doesn’t?"
Whoopi and Joy: [Howling.]
Oh, PopWatchers, far be it from me to complain about getting paid towatch television, but it’s gonna take an extra mojito tonight to washaway that image.
* Technically not a question, but we’re going to count it assomething designed to elicit an answer from Weaver, despite its totallack of success.

Michael I’m disappointed in you. Everyone knows that Friday episodes of the View are taped ahead of time so for that reason they purposely AVOID current issues. Fridays are like how the show was early on (relationship, parenting talk) If you would have watched any other day this week you would have seen debates on gun control and the responsibility of the media. Basically, Fridays always suck. They are boring.
On the other hand, Slezak, I am PROUD that you didn’t know that!
Yeah disappointed is really not the word I was looking for….I just don’t want the show judged on a Friday. And as a college student with lots of gaps in the day, The View is a favorite guilty pleasure of mine
What were you thinking watching a Friday show. They’re pretaped, anywhere from 2 weeks out. Try a Monday thru Wednesday (and usually Thursday)…it was quite spirited earlier this week and STILL must-TiVo for me.
I was sick with the flu and saw the View for the first time in my life this week. It did not make me hate television anymore than I already do. But it did (along with everything else I saw) confirm that daytime tv is, in fact, boring and sad.
I am constantly amazed at what passes for ‘interesting’ in this culture.
Sleazak, that fact that you get paid to do this and that we idiots read it is a SIGN of THE END.
yes, the end is nigh. …yawwwn. Maybe someone will film it for the Discovery channel.
Do you love to come?
Rosie does. Thinks who doesn’t?
‘lisabeth silent.
(only thing missing was Rosie haiku, M-Zak)
A bit heavy handed there,Marshall?
In the haiku below, please insert a “comma” in the second line after the word “thinks”. Edit function please, EW.com?
Friday is pre-recorded!! You should watch during the week! Complete un-fair. The View is one of the best shows on television.. and I NEVER EVER EVER would have said that before Rosie joined (I actually hated it with Meredith and Star). Rosie is the best..
Michael, please do another check-in Monday through Thursday! Why did you watch Friday?? OY!
Whenever I’ve ditched work & even bothered to watch The View, the tension bewtween Joy & Rosie is what has most amused me. Between the 2 attempting to avoid eye contact, while Rosie dominated most topics & Joy nervously twiddled with her hands was distracting & oddly entertaining in itself.
I had been watching all week and there has been much heated discussion about gun control, Alberto G, and more. Tune in monday to thursday, Friday is pre-taped and always tame.
Love Elizabeth Joy is great. Miss Merideth Have not watched the View since Rosie started hosting. And will not tune in again untill she is replaced. I want to come home to the View.

I think this is a little too harsh on The View. I enjoy watching people just having fun and the different opinions from each of the women. The ratings have skyrocketed since Rosie has been hosting. I didn’t like her before she came on The View (only because of what other people have said), but I feel like I “know” her now, gave her a chance and gave myself a chance to form my own opinion and I love Rosie!
The View is my favorite program and it’s time for it right now so I’m outta here!
the view is one of the worst shows on daytime television. rosie is horrid and disgusting. anyone who actually likes this show is an idiot for sure!
Elisabeth Fembot is a twit.
Slezak – One of the choices you gave us for worst interview question was not a question at all, but rather a comment. So I would guess the other question (which was actually a question) would be the worst question. The other might be the worst comment. Next time you might try actually choosing 2 questions.
I have to agree with Fatima, you shouldn’t do your ‘drop in’ on a Friday.
Maybe you should try watching on a day other than Friday. Friday’s shows are never live. Mondays are normally much better because in Hot Topics they can discuss all the news that happened from Friday and the weekend.
Maybe you should watch it everyday, for the next month or so, and then tell us what you think.
Question, Slezak already brought attention to the fact that #1 was not actually a question. Next time you might try actually reading the article about which you are commenting.
I’m not gonna lie though….today’s episode wasn’t all that special either. but I did miss the first 10 minutes.
I think we need a to change things up on The View. How about filling one of the seats with an unknown. Somebody that the VIEWers can relate to and with. Google Natalie Badolato. I’ve been following her story and now I’m hooked. I’ve joined Team Natalie
