Madonna has an army

Madonna_lRemember those stories last week about paparazzi in Vietnam throwing things under Brangelina’s car? Well, similarly orphan-fond mom Madonna appears to have taken steps to avoid a similar situation: When she visited her kid’s Malawian orphanage yesterday, the building was circled by schoolchildren who threw rocks at the paparazzi to keep them away.

I’m not sure if this constitutes an official response on my part, but: hahahahahahahahahaha.

Okay, there is no way to know if Madonna had a hand in organizing that army of rock-pelting kids, but I sure as hell like her better if she did. Not that I’m advocating violence. And not that Madonna doesn’t actively cultivate publicity through her actions. Honestly, I’m not sure anyone’s innocent in this scenario. Maybe we should blame the gossip rags that pay top dollar for grainy photographs of famous people in private situations? Or maybe we should blame ourselves for caring in the first place? (Wait. Am I part of the problem? Quick! Pretend this post doesn’t exist!)

Weigh in, PopWatchers: You’re in a glass house and you each get one stone to throw. Where’s it going?

The kids with rocks remind me of Eli Roth’s rock throwing kids from “Hostel”. That sounds mean and dangerous.
If celebs could get away with pelting photo takers with rocks, imagine how much easier life’d be for the likes of Lindsay Lohan and Brittany Spears.

  • ME

    Your right El Sato…
I’m a bit sick of hearing about what a saint Madonna is. Let’s just hope her kids don’t grow up as weird as she is.

  • Joe C

Just as long as she’s not making a movie, Madge is alright with me.

  • Amanda

Well first of all, those kids are totally awesome.
Secondly, I know it may be simplistic, but I throw my stone at the paparazzi. I know there’s a market for their product, blah blah, but honestly, they are the ones who choose to be total sleazeballs. I certainly can point and click and follow people around, but I have decided NOT to make a career as a gross bottomfeeder.
I’m not going to feel bad because I bought an US Weekly once. I honestly could live without 24/7 news coverage of celebs doing mundane things, as most people could. Just because there is a market for something doesn’t mean you make a career of it.

I always think that there are people that ask for paparazzi pictures and people that don’t. Even the people that ask for it eventually come to their senses and want their privacy, but it’s usually too late. This whole thing of going to the other side of the world to get a picture of someone with their kids is crazy. I’ve stopped looking at the paparazzi pictures on people.com and other places because they are creepy.

I heard this yesterday, and it has officially become one of my favorite stories ever. I know people ask for papparazzi but….isn’t it a bit ridiculous for them to fly off to Africa. This ain’t L.A. people! The papparazzi learned that the hard way. Even African school kids think papparazzi are scum.

In Madonna’s defense, she’s never done a reality show based on her life, and she doesn’t seem to go to all the “hot nightspots” and flash her panties or lack thereof. She’s just trying to live her life. So I’ll take her side against the paparazzi. I wouldn’t be so charitable to the Britneys and Jessicas of the world.

“I’m not sure if this constitutes an official response on my part, but: hahahahahahahahahaha.”
Whit – that was freakin’ hilarious. If only because I was thinking the exact same thing.
Ep Sato – I totally agree with you. And honestly, I wouldn’t actually mind seeing people the likes of La Lohan go all “Hostel” on a photog…imagine how freakin’ hilarious those shots would be of her face! We’re talking Aunt Jackie at the Santa Claus photo booth on “Roseanne” slash Holiday Party slideshow level hilarity!

Celebrities who publish books with photos of themselves naked or pose in the nude on the cover of Vanity Fair seem to be rather hypocritical to be complaining of overexposure or lack of privacy. You invited your fans into the more personal areas of your lives to get ahead–now live with the consequences

I have one stone…I will throw it at the people (including me) that propegate the need for these photos…and we are all to blame. The buyer, the photographer, and the star…we all need it. It is a circle…People need as much exposure as possible to stay in the limelight. I remember when people used to just make albums and movies, and go on tour. now they have become a character in themselves and we are eating it up…So, my stone…there you go.

  • Dark Dot

    I throw mine at Jesus.
    Bring it, people!

  • Ellipsian

The problem with that thinking, peggym, is that this is an already sensitive issue, primarily involving a child. Nude pictures taken of a parent do not make harassing a kid okay, and your implying as such simply as a means to condemn Madonna is petty and outrageous.

  • Martha

I don’t know who’s to blame here, or where to cast my stone, but I have to say that it would be freakin’ awesome to see a picture of the stone-throwing kids and the paparazzi running away. And shame on you, Dark Dot. If you’re going to troll, at least make it more subtle.

  • Indianafan

I don’t condone violence, but the paparazzi asked for it. Madonna rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ceballos

Even though I realize they’re technically people, I just can’t muster any sympathy for the paparazzi…I kinda dug it when Keanu Reeves reportedly grazed one with his car…does that make me a bad person? (probably)

  • Michael

She always does the saintly thing before her new CD comes out. Coincidentally her new one is coming out in the fall and will probably kick ass, so who gives a xxxx what the hell she’s doing in Africa. Bring on the music!

Naked photos do not equal an invitation into a personal life. A reality show could be construed as such, but nude photos are often simply a form of art. An art book is also very different than an article devoted to explaining one’s private life.
Madonna has done a wonderful job proving you can go from a media constant to a relatively private parent, considering her level of fame. Take note Britney- should you care to.
I peg my stone at the reality stars and the untalented celebutards, which IMO includes Britney. Base your “career” upon your personal life and gossip, and then complain about the intrusion? I’d like a MLB pitcher to throw the stone, please. Fastball.

  • Craig

Madonna Has NEVER in 25 years(publicly) complained about the paprazzi, because she knows it is part of her job. Even though she has seen it all, 10 times worse than the Britney’s and Lindsey’s-who court the paparazzi outside nightclubs every night. She has successfully used them and fooled them(birh of Lourdes, example).
That is because she is the smartest celebrity out there, in every sense of the word.

  • Ali

My girl is sweet! She is going to adopt another African baby. Bless her heart. Not only is she a great entertainer, but she certainly looks out for the interest of the sub groups. This makes her a star in my book.

  • Ep Sato

Madonna’s always had an oddball relationship with the press. She relies on them for her reinventions every few years, but shuns them when she wants privacy. And she does so at pretty much any cost. Remember when then husband Sean Penn gave a reporter a beatdown for taking their picture?
Public celebs need to accept some degree of papparrazzi, but also deserve at least SOME measure of privacy. Shots of Tyra on the beach, Madonna with her kids in Africa, and Brad Pitt in a private secluded resort should not be fair game. Maybe some ground rules could be developed?

  • Ep Sato

Or I guess we could just give all celebs armies of kids with rocks.
They might look kind of cool with entourages of 12 year olds. It’s worked for Gwen Stefani.

  • Juniper

When will she be returning with her new toy?

  • Evelyn Brown

I have to give Madonna credit, she is a smart business woman. She loves every minute of the camera stalkers. She knows how to pretend she does not want them around. Give the woman a dog biscuit.

  • Ali..

Ahem.. stop impersonating me you skank! Although your comments are similar to my thoughts…

  • ?

Oh Ali, does anything ever change with you? Stop calling your mama a Skank! She gave birth to you.

  • Ali..

Erm.. No, it`s all about me!!
    Haven`t you guessed that yet?

  • Juju

It’s all about you in your demented mind.

  • Ali..

That maybe so… bit it`s still all about me!
Get over it, move on & go bore the rest of Canada with your chubby fat husband… that said, wishing you a wonderful day!
    xx

  • Juju

Oh Ali, I wish I could go bore Canada, but they told me you had already been there. Sorry, but it is not about you. Stop looking in that liar mirror of yours.
