And the winner of the pathetic soundtrack obsession contest is...

Categories: Film, Music

Yesterday, I challenged you guys to confess to your most pathetic soundtrack obsession… and oh my God, did you ever make me feel good about myself.

So who wins?

Well, I can’t give it to Jer (A Guy), because he’s already got the Hope Floats soundtrack, as well as Practical Magic and Forces Of Nature ("I believe that puts the Bullock trifecta into play," he wrote. "Check your tickets to see if you’re a winner!" Only winner here is you, Jer. Just you.) And while I think McGee and Sheila may now be soulmates based on their love for the Good Burger rap, there’s way too much ironic kitsch value there for it to be truly pathetic. I feel sorry for anyone who rides in CeballosNight At the Roxbury-pumping car, but I remain unconvinced of his geekdom.

No, there can only be one winner:

Adam875 — "How about making tapes of the Star Wars soundtracks so that they’d be in exactly the same order as the music in the films?"

DING DING DING DING DING!

Thank you everyone for your stellar participation. And Adam, I’ll bein touch. Meanwhile, if you didn’t get your confession in yesterday, why not go ahead and spill it now?

Adam, I love you for that.
I missed this post yesterday. Is it too late to weigh in with the “Where the Heart is” soundtrack?

  • Adam875

Oh my god I’m so embarrassed. Serves me right for skimming over the part about a prize… If I’d known I’d be singled out in a post I would have stayed in the closet!
If anyone actually wants my “prize” (the “Hope Floats” soundtrack), let me know. I’d hate to see such a treasure go to waste!

McGee and Sheila, I’ll see your Good Burger and raise you Space Jam

  • Todd

So who knew there were 3 soundtrack albums to the 1995 Angelina Jolie classic “Hackers”? Oh wait, I did because, yep, I own them all. I think my favorite song is “Halcyon & On & On” by Orbital, which coincidentally, also appears on the Mortal Kombat soundtrack, another one that I own. Sadly, I don’t own the soundtrack to “Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. I’m ashamed.

    Nick,
I’ll see your Space Jam and raise you Dr. Doolittle I and II…

I actually own the Ace Ventura 2: Call of Nature ST and the Brainscan (RIP John Flynn) ST, which I bought in the back alleys of Shanghai from counterfieters that Lucky and Flo may be looking for. Of course, the all time favorite ST is Lost Boys. God I even dressed up like Kiefer “David” Sutherland for a while, thinking it was cool to wear heavy black overcoats in 90 degree weather. Man was I cool.

  • Sheila.

There is no shame for soundtrack love. None at all. This coming from the girl that inherited her mother’s soudntrack vinyl collection. ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind,’ ‘ Star Wars,’ and the best one ever ‘Can’t Stop The Music.’
    No shame at all.
    And I mean that.

  • Jeff Commings

Just FYI: There is an entire culture of John Williams fans that have already spent hours in front of their computers resequencing the Star Wars saga music to make it completely chronological. While Adam may have been the only one to chime in, rest assured there are dozens more out there.

  • Jerry

I am a big David Foster fan, so I had to pick up the the soundtrack for “The Secret Of My Success”. After seeing the movie, I expected to hear the track that played when Michael J. Fox and Helen Slater were “getting personal” but it wasn’t there. There was a track called “3 Themes” but it only had part of the track I am talking about. Does anyone else know what I mean or am I alone in the universe on this?

  • Trish

Newsies! And the Parent Trap, Lindsey Lohan version.

After reading many of the posts yesterday, what I thought was a geeky soundtrack obsession, turned out to be rather tame. Then I turned a CD on that I had made for my son, and lo and behold, there was Bruce Willis and Danny Aiello singing Swinging on a Star from the Hudson Hawk soundtrack. I forgot how much I loved that one. Geekdom recertified!

  • Geoff

I love the soundtrack to “Bright Lights, Big City” – Prince, New Order, Bryan Ferry… bring it!

  • Jer

They say the first step is admitting you have a problem. My problem is that I can’t find the “Murder By Numbers” soundtrack…

  • Tosy and Cosh

My first-ever album purechases, back when I got my first portable tape player and my Mom took me to get a tape or two for it, were the Beverly Hills Cop and Goonies soundtracks.

  • Nat X

Robocop…not the movie, but the tv show.

  • Allison

Right after I saw the movie, I purchased the soundtrack to “The Mask”. You know, that movie about Jim Carrey with his elastic green face. Ohhh the shame.

  • Kristen

Trish, the Parent Trap (Linsey Lohan version) is a most excellent soundtrack. No geekdom at all.

  • Ceballos

    Congrats Adam!
Jer, I guess I know what to get you for your birthday…the “Premonition” soundtrack (though you probably already own it).
Whitney, I believe you’re the first to not consider me a geek. Now, if anyone wants to slap on a shiny suit, jump in my red 2000 Camry and nod their head to the left to the wee hours to some early 90s club songs, you’re all more than welcome to come with.

  • McGee

So close! I do have to say, geeky as I am, actually being mentioned in a post is prize enough. If we’re talking about TV themes, I do have both versions of the Growing Pains theme…oh, and California Dreams.

  • Verity

I actually have the soundtrack for the MTV movie “2ge+her.” Remember them? The film that spoofed boy bands and gave us the little gem that is “U + Me = Us (Calculus).” What’s worse is I even remember the hand motions. *blush*

  • Chaddogg

    Verity, 2gether is AWESOME…
That being said, my first CD ever (and one I still own and listen to), was the soundtrack to “Cocktail.” Kokomo and Don’t Worry Be Happy, indeed…

  • jru

BIG DADDY soundtrack is surprisingly good. MINUS the Sheryl Crow “Sweet Child O’ Mine” disaster. A rare Rufus Wainwright? A kick ass Pharcyde track? Big Audio Dynamite? What is not to love?
But the best of the so-bad-they-are-amazing soundtracks has to be that of CENTER STAGE. It’s genius. Pure ballet dancing genius. It makes me want to go work on my turnout. Or something.

  • Martin

I had the 90210 soundtracks. And the Melrose Place soundtrack.

  • Amanda

I don’t own the Centerstage soundtrack, but I do love it. The Jamiriqui song at the end alone might drive me to check whether this gem is still available…

  • Stephanie

Every Soundtrack to The OC. I did not care for the show but the music was fantastic. Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club, and Both soundtracks to Gross Point Blank.

  • Jane

It’s not a movie, but I have the complete recording of the soundtrack from “Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room” at Disneyland (including the excised Offenbach piece). Plus – about 6 versions of “In the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Room” (hello, Hillary Duff!).

  • Tommy G.

I’m with Jane – I’ve got all of the Tiki Room versions, too, including the “Macarena” edition. Who knew there were so many Disney soundtrack geeks out there???

  • cay

My other half has the Chariots of Fire soundtrack on vinyl. He converted the theme song into an mp3 and plans on playing it sometime during our wedding reception. Thankfully, I talked him out of having it as our recessional at the ceremony.

  • Todd

I do own the soundtrack for Runaway Bride, Mr. Holland’s Opus, Hope Floats and Evita.
That is bad enough on it’s own, but kicker is that I am a guy. (gulp)
(My saving grace is that I don’t listen to them anymore, if that counts for anything)

  • Stephanie Travitsky

    Oh, my mistake. Pathetic soundtracks.
Unfortunately when I was a child my mom bought Disco Disney. Looking back, picturing Mickey in a polyester suit is just plain creepy.
