The big news of this new day: Jim Morrison is still dead. But the Lizard King isn’t resting peacefully, says one fan from Dayton, Ohio, who is lobbying Florida’s governor to pardon the late frontman of the Doors for alleged naughty behavior during a Miami-area concert 38 years ago. Morrison’s infamous 1969 conviction for indecent exposure and profanity was on appeal when he died two years later, in Paris, at age 27. So justice, this fan argues, never has been served.
Well, all right, I’ll bite — this may be merely a shameless publicity stunt on the part of the Ohio man who’s raising the issue, but I still think he’s wrong. One theory has always been that Morrison’s legal snafu was unfair and contributed to his band’s dissolution. I’d submit, however, that because so much of his legend is based on him having been a bad boy — this Miami episode being the main illustration of that reputation — washing it from the record almost does a kind of twisted disservice to Morrison’s legacy. Sure, the rock star always denied he did anything wrong, and it’s always important to preserve the integrity of the American legal process, but posthumously pardoning Morrison could ruin his reputation.
Wouldn’t justice best be served in this case by not being served? Who’s with me, PopWatchers?

The correct answer to this question, PopWatchers, is “Who the heck cares???” Jim Morrison is possibly the most overrated rock musician ever. Whenever I see someone talk about what a “poet” he was (or think about Oliver Stone’s over-indulgent piece of crap movie) I throw up a little in my mouth.
He’s dead. What difference does it make if he’s exonerated of his crimes? And I totally agree with Martha. Anyone who drops enough acid can write “poetry” like Morrison’s.
He’s 6 feet under.
Case closed.
it does matter and he was a great poet and i love his music. he is the all time greatest thanks for listening to my opinion

I dunno. Copernicus and Gallileo didn’t seem to lose their reputations when the Catholic Church rescinded having excommunicated them for saying the Earth is round, it’s hard to believe people are going to think Morrison’s a p*ssy (and I don’t mean “cat”) because he got pardoned posthumously.
Besides, it’d look cool on his wikipedia page.
Copernicus & Galileo, the two biggest badasses of the 16th century. Now there’s a buddy comedy in the making.
Slow news day, eh?

I have just about everything the Doors ever recorded. I love Jim Morrison! Leave him alone. He has been dead for many years. I think this is really shameful. “When the musics over, turn out the lights.” Well the music ended for him and the lights are out, leave him alone!
I must wonder at some one who dismisses an artist for being overrated, then goes on to use “throw up a little in my mouth” which is possibly the most currently overused and overrated line to convey distaste. I mean, it was old when Reese Witherspoon used it in Just Like Heaven in 2005. Keep on with your teen movie witticisms. At least you didn’t type “First!”
I tend to agree with EP Sato. I don’t think that it would affect his image much one way or the other. He’s not all of a sudden going to be a choirboy because he didn’t pull his wank out on stage. It was his persona before that incident that set him up for those charges in the first place. And as a Floridian I would just love to see Gov. Crist talk about Jim Morrison.
Jim Morrison had sex appeal oozing out of his pores. His baritone voice was excellent and I love hearing it still. He was different and very odd but so what? He was Jim Morrison of the Doors.
I don’t know much about Jim Morrison, but I think the photo above is pretty cool.
