That Steve Carell: busy man, he. I mean, no wonder the star absentmindedly put on a woman’s suit on last week’s episode of The Office!
Well, with his celebrated sitcom on hiatus and Evan Almighty finally hitting theaters this summer, the comedian is now at work on a big-screen remake of the greatest footwear advertisement before the O.J. trial, Get Smart. And, hey, USA Today has a fun little first look at the movie, which costars Anne Hathaway (pictured, with Carell) and Oscar winner Alan Arkin (Carell’s Little Miss Sunshine costar) and is directed by Tommy Boy‘s Peter Segal. Sure, Don Adams’ famous shoe phone is still around, but lots of changes are promised for the updated spy spoof thanks to things like, you know, the fall of communism.
I know, I know, sounds totally fun and cool. But no holding your breath: It’s still 14 months until Get Smart‘s June 2008 release. Are you psyched to check it out?

Would you believe….
YES!
It sounds great, but so did The Avengers movie. Steve Carell can do no wrong, I hope they get it right.
I’m so excited that Steve Carell stars in the remake of Get Smart and will look forward into it but I so missed the part where he accidentally put on a women’s suit at last week’s episode of “The Office.” I should watch that episode and see what he really looked like in that suit. I’m sure he looked sexy on that suit. Right now, I’m so hyped into the upcoming release of Evan Almighty this summer. You can check out the Evan Almighty extended movie trailer and other comedy clips at http://www.dotcomedy.com. I get this scoop because I work with NBC.
Corporate plant much?
I know they’re acting, but come on, they coulda found an older actress. Anne(25) is 20 years younger than Steve. why am i surprised by hollywood, poor slightly older actresses
i remember watching get smart on nick at nite when i was in grade school. it was always my favorite show, so im really looking forward to it
I don’t know. If I had to pick someone for the role, Carell would be my guy. But I worry because, really, have any of these recent movies based on old television shows been any good? Or even successful (I honestly don’t know the answer to that one)? I mean Dukes of Hazzard, Starsky & Hutch, SWAT (wasn’t terrible), I Spy (do you even remember that they made that movie?), Charlie’s Angels? Has there been a good one since The Fugitive or The Untouchables?
Upon further review, it seems that the only time these things work is when a TV drama is made into a film drama (as mentioned The Fugitive, The Untouchables). Comedies to comedies (Bewtiched, Scooby Doo) don’t work. Pseudo-drama to kitchy-comedy (Starsky & Hutch, Dukes of Hazzard) are also terrible. Hopefully Get Smart bucks the trend.
Anne Hathaway is quite young to play a veteran spy teaching Max the ropes. I’m worried.
More importantly, doesn’t Steve Carell look debonaire in that photo? (my tradition of crushing on slightly nerdy white men continues…)
Get Smart was one of the better comedies in the 60′s. It was good cheese.
It’s all in the writing and Carell should be fine. I’m not holding my breath though. The disappointing ‘Beverly Hillbillies’ movie was a sign of things to come.
Please, please…don’t ruin one of my favorite silly sitcom’s!!!
Am I psyched to check it out? I dunno. Is Get Smart creator Mel Brooks is involved? If he is, then yes. If Mel’s not involved, then forget it!
Steve Carell as Maxwell Smart makes sense. The guy is a comedic genius and will make this film hilarious. Anne Hathaway, I’m kind of skeptical of, but she was pretty good in The Devil Wears Prada so I will give her the benefit of a doubt next to Steve. I’m also looking forward to see Evan Almighty this summer. Hopefully he’ll have two blockbuster movies in 2007 and 2008 plus get even better ratings for The Office, the best show on TV.
LOL…it was my favorite show on NICK at Nite growing up, second fave was Welcome Back Kotter. hope it’s good, but Anne Hathaway playing Barbara Felton’s old role?…hmmm
Everyone’s crapping on Anne Hathaway, but this gal has potential as a really good comedic actress. When I saw her stumble on a set of bleachers in The Princess Diaries (ugh), I was impressed. It had to hurt. She has great sense of physical comedy for one so young.
Her ‘age’ doesn’t bother me in the least. Carell carries his age well.
I was excited until i read Anne H. was in it. Sorry I dont like her. Besides I wish they would just leave TV shows alone. This is getting old.
