And now it’s time for another installment of "Are You Old?" Please answer the following question.
Corbin Bleu is:
A) A delicious and savory way to prepare chicken.
B) An expensive alternative to French’s.
C) The former star of L.A. Law.
D) The name of Leah Remini’s baby boy.
And the answer is E) You are old! Ha ha, PopWatchers…I tricked you!
Corbin Bleu is one of the stars of that High School Musical thing the kids keep talking about, and now he has a new music video for a song called "Deal With It." (Don’t worry… I wouldn’t have known the answer 30 minutes ago, either). So let’s take a crash course in Teen 101 and watch the clip together.
The opening snippets of stilted dialogue from Corbin’s ladyfriend — "Corbin can you explain it to me? You know what? I don’t even wanna hear about it" — seem to have been stolen from Madonna’s H&M "What is IT?" campaign. But I will give 10 points for the way Corbin’s lustrous hair bounces as he looks to and fro in confusion while sitting in the driver’s seat. The rest of the video is relatively one-note, with Corbin (clad in a somewhat womanly black tank top) leading his teen troupe in a zealously edited dance routine, then later posing in front of an orange muscle car and sporting a dazzling orange sweatshirt. The song itself has an okay rubbery bassline, but vocally and lyrically, I don’t want to deal with it. You’re really gonna rhyme "I ain’t tellin’ you no lies" with "Tell me why you rolled your eyes"? Oh Corbin, trust me, you don’t want to get me started. And no, you are no Joey Lawrence.

I kept watching him and thinking, “hmmm…Sanjaya?” Honestly, another teen chick magnet?
A few thoughts come to mind:
1. Is it pervy that I let out a little ‘Oooh…’ when he took off his jacket and exposed his lil’ 16 year old muscles? Cuz I’m feeling a little dirty…
2. Is Justin Guarini taking notes? This is how you get away with Fraggle Rock hair–you counterbalance it by pretending to be hard and adding a weight training regimen…
3. If I had seen this video 15 years ago, I would have collected every photo of Corbin from Tiger Beat, Teen Beat, 16, Seventeen magazines and created a shrine to the boy.
4. I’m glad the tween girls (and boys) will be gawking over him: he’s clothed, not hyper-sexual, sings in complete sentences, and doesn’t look like a meth addict. Wholesome entertainment fo da kids!
5. This video makes me feel old.
…and by the way, who decided on the stage name “Corbin Bleu”. Initially, I read the entry and kept thinking, ‘Who is Cordon Bleu?’ They couldn’t have found a better name? Seriously??
It actually pains me to watch this. There is something about the boy that embarrasses me. Almost like he’s the only one that doesn’t understand how lame he looks.
between the tight jeans and the hair it’s like this kid really does want to be Joey Lawrence. All that’s missing is him ending the song with one long “woaaaahhh”
Wow, Joey Lawrence definitely had a Look, didn’t he? Leather jacket, the hair, wife beater, ripped jeans…well, it definitely worked in 1992.
This should have been classified as another installment of “Things that make me die inside”.
that lady friend… is she from the pussycat doll show? melissa r?
i happen to think he looks hot!!!! i just wish that he took his shirt off
I think everyone needs to calm down! Corbin Bleu is a talented young man! He learned from the one the only Debbie Allen how to dance! He’s in 2 hit movies and is a star in both of them! You need to cut the hardworking boy some slack! He’s someone that juggles work and school at the age of 18 and he does a lot for Disneychannel and his little sisters. I know Corbin actually; sometimes he’s a little slow on answering e-mails but he’s a great friend;you guys are just stating stuff and you really don’t know what your talking about. He’s not tryin’ to be like that boy Joey Lawrence;he’s trying to be like his father: an actor;his mother: a broadway star; so correct yourselves and do your research before you try and “dog” someone out,you are entitled to your opinions but make your opinions on facts. Corbin may not have many fans, but he’s still a great guy and probaly the only articulate black person I know. Let’s try and keep a drug free teen idol in the US. SINJAYA? can u find some1 better
hey corbin is 18 fyi!
“Corbin may not have many fans, but he’s still a great guy and probaly the only articulate black person I know.”
Wow, Lindz, then I’m going to assume he’s the only black person you know…
I know the song isn’t of the highest quality & yes they’re cashing in on the BIG cash market that is High School Musical. I know the 31 year old in me says to criticize but I remember in the 80s you could NOT sway my young heart on the manliness of Wham! the street cred of New Kids on the Block, & the longevity of A Flock of Seagulls. So let the kids have their music that one decade they’ll look back and shake their heads and go, “Wow, I was SO in love with this song way back when.”
I agree with your entire post. I have 2 kids (6 & 7) that really liked High School Musical and Corbin’s more recent Jump In. They are both completely cheesey movies (as were many of them that I adored in my youth–a la The Karate Kid … say it with me: “wax on, wax off”), but I like that they are positive without going Barney-dumb on the kids and they aren’t crazy sexy all the time. The girls are clothed decently and don’t all seem to be posing as the next Girls Next Door (thankyouverymuch!) Corbin’s cute, articulate and confident … and he dances. Takes me back to the days when dancing was cool (back in MJ’s heyday … Dirty Dancing was all the rage and everyone on my block was figuring out some rad breakdancing move). I’m happy that my kids are in the midst of movies that bring that back!
And, I didn’t mind looking at his arms during the video
this video is off the hook
Corbin bleu is so hot and sexy!
Its deep how u can be so shallow! No he’s not the only black person I know! To begin with, I’m black I have many black friends and family also. Its sad that you would stoop that low just to try and break someone down…take the icebox out of your heart!
No matter what anyone else says i think corbin bleu is the hottest teen alive and i should know cause im his wife!!! but i shouldnt brag
so anyone putting bad remarks about my husband, i hope u lock ur door tonight >:( thanks for reading this!
Droooooooooooooool
get a life…the boy is 18….why lie unneccesarily?
His real last name is Reivers sweethawt
Is that the only thing you can say about him. honesty is good! But why are you wasting time talking about some one who not only makes more money than you, but also looks and probaly, no, does have more talent than you could ever have. Get a life and quit talking down about him. You know thats another term of being messy. And besides, mall the one who are talking trash ARE his #1 HATERS!!!!!
That’s what I was trying to say! Thank you for backing me up!
That’s what I was trying to say! Thank you for backing me up!
im a corbin fan but this song sounds like identical to ushers song “caught up” its like the same exact beat, go listen to them both… ;P
When I first heard the Push it to the Limit song, I made the decision that singing probally isn’t his thing. This song and video isn’t that bad, it sounded a little too Micheal Jacksonly to me. But its his first video and song for his ever first album, and it sould be expected for it to be a little too- well its something new and different it might just take a little getting used to. Its not perfect , but at least he gave it a shot, somthing none of you have gotten up and done. Hes a great actor by the way. I just think Pretty Boys shouldn’t try to sing, they should just let there looks do all the talking and hes one georgous, hotty guy wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I give him that. The video and song is all right I might just have to listern to it a couple mor times before I make up my mind on wheather I like it or not.
uh uh girl No you didn’t LAME IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT WHEN IT COMES TO TALKING ABOUT HANDSOM BLEU LIKE THAT.
FYI, THE GUY ISN’T bLACK YOU THINK YOU KNOW SO MUCH ABOUT HIM, YOU DO YOUR REASERCH.
Am I the only one who noticed that the girl was smiling when she said you know what i don’t want to hear it? Anyways Corbin Bleu is black. he’s half anyways maybe YOU should do you’re research. He’s jamaican and italian. Also the name Corbin Bleu is a stage name. He’s dad explained it when they were on the set of push it to the limit.
Personally,I feel this is just an example of some older people wagging their index finger and critizing our music just because it doesn’t sound like their type of music. THIS IS A NEW GENERATION. Most of us like this music for the same reasons you liked music at your age; because we grew up with this. This, I must admit is not the appitimy of this generations music but it is an example of some of the music we like. For some teens like me, Corbin is the highlight of my day. So just because you cant understand how you rhyme lies with eyes (which seems too obvious to me) doesn’t mean the song isn’t good, it just mean it not for you. So back off of Corbin please!!
