Do I really need to explain what’s so wrong about this? That rustling sound you hear is Kurt Cobain pirouetting in his grave. Read the full post.

As a native Seattleite, I have to interrupt the hand-wringing to provide the reality check that Spectrum is a well-respected local dance troupe. This isn’t Cobain On Ice, folks.
More on Spectrum: http://www.spectrumdance.org/
There’s nothing wrong with the dance troupe!! It’s the MLB video game commercial we have a problem with!! Jeez!!
To your point, Naggs, how freaking soulless does one’s marketing firm have to be to buy a percentage of the rights to Kurt Cobain’s work and then use it in commercials?
Freaking no conscience, huh?
What is the world coming to, I ask you.
This, plus the Aaron Sorkin-penned MUSICAL based on the Flaming Lips’ “Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots” (the news of which made me want to shoot myself). Whatever happened to a good night of legitimat theatre? Like, you know, “Cats” or something?
Some of you people need to calm down. How is this sooo horrible. A dance troupe using Nevermind is not such a bad idea. It’s not a sell-out, it’s art. Of course I haven’t seen it, and this doesn’t mean I’d like it, just that it’s not blasphemous.
To clarify, I did say that perhaps Kurt would not find it offensive due to it’s artistic value.
I think the uproar started when Dan mentioned Nirvana songs being marketed in commercials now – thanks to the eternal waste Courtney Love.
Either way, I don’t see myself up in Seattle anytime soon, so I don’t suppose it affects me one way or the other.
I do, however, miss Kurt and the GOOD things that he represented. Don’t know why, but I felt like I should add that.
Here’s something to ease your pain, Mr. Susman. Your very own Kurt Cobain Unplugged action figure!

I dig what Royale is saying here. Based on interviews, movies and clips of Cobain, he never struck me as the sort of person who really wanted tons of money and fame. He also had a vibe of someone who wasn’t too interested in his music making up ads or being somehow adapted.
Love, on the other hand, was driving up to their house in brand new Mercedes Benzs.
I remember reading a long time ago that Smells Like Teen Spirit was meant to be a statement, but the great irony was that it became loved by the very people it was meant to poke fun of.
Like Royale, I just miss the guy, his music, and the great energy he brought to music. The whole Seattle “scene” seemed to fall apart after he left, along with the fresh sense of rock and roll revolition it once stood for.
I think this idea is kinda queer…but at least Nirvana’s music isn’t being totally forgotten in the wake of emo and all the other crapola that’s out there.
I think Courtney is a fruitcake but I guess I’ve still never totally forgiven Kurt for taking the coward’s way out.
i was wondering if anybody knew the name of the song that is used in a new Sega baseball game commercial. It sounds like Nirvana.
