The wizards behind the Harry Potter phenomenon created quite a stir today when they released not one, not two, but three covers for J.K. Read the full post.

Meghan – Are you JK Rowling? Do you know how the books are going to end? Look I too have read the books, a few times actually, and I’m not positive that Harry/Hermione won’t end up together. You sound just like most Heron’s who just know that Ron/Hermione will “hook up” and think that anyone that thinks otherwise is stupid.
Anyways, it almost looks like Harry and Voldemort are behind the Veil that claimed Sirius in OotP. Perhaps what’s behind the veil in the Department of Mysteries are the Deathly Hallows. And Slytherin’s locket on the cover of the UK adult one is awesome.

I find it weird that we in the US are getting the best cover. The adult UK version is ok, but it makes it look like a romance novel. And yes, all of the covers for the hard backs have been wrap around. The house elf is probably Kreacher, but it could be Dobby. The necklace around Harry’s neck is probably the one from the last book that he and Dumbledore went after.
Ooh, so much suspense! So many things to discuss! I guess it’s off to the fan forums for me!!

Ok, Meghan, so right on. Leigh, you may read the books but do you read the JKR interviews? Before HBP came out, everyone was still debating and fighting over who would end up together. JKR made a comment right before it came out and said something like this, (forgive me, it’s not exact) “You STILL haven’t figured it out? I have dropped so many hints and still nothing? If you don’t know, you will find out by the time you finish the book. I thought I made it obvious before but it will be quite clear now.” And guess who got together in HBP…not Harry and Hermoine!

RyRy- The official press release stated that this book has the first ever wrap around cover so Joshua Rich was just repeating what was released. This book does have the first wrap around cover in the series because it is referring to the fact that the front and back cover pictures are completely connected. The previous books may have had pictures on the fron and back covers but they were not connected.
Anyway, I think the cover is great and I can’t wait for the book to come out.

For anyone interested in a serious analysis of the U.S. cover (if not, I’m sorry for boring you): Some people have suggested that Harry is reaching for something in the sky, and that He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named is reaching for Harry. However, I disagree. I magnified the image on scholastic.com and due to the fine details, it is more likely that Voldemort is reaching into the sky for whatever Harry is either throwing or trying to catch. Also, from the background, they are probably battling in the Ministry of Magic (I’d say right outside the whispering veil from OotP) and perhaps the shadowed people in the background are the rest of the members from The Order or Death Eaters.
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know!

    My initial thoughts…
Could the elf clinging to Harry’s back (on the UK cover) be Kreacher, and the riches are all the things that he’s gathered from the Black family, and the trio are there looking for horcruxes (like the locket)? The elf is carrying a raised sword, so it looks much more malicious/defensive against Harry than Dobby would be.
As for the full US cover, could the curtains mean that we’re within the veil from the Dept of Mysteries? Note all the shadowy figures watching in the background.

lilacdreamer and Heather- great analysis on both! I agree with both of you. I’m not that great at figuring these things out but I really like the theory about the people in the background being the veil from The Ministry.

I think im going to like the cover a lot more when its actually printed on the book. While I find it appealing as a mere image. They always look and feel better on the books.
But Mary Grand Pre has done it again!

The color scheme is so much lighter and less foreboding than the other books… maybe this means Harry will make it through the 7th? Please?

I think that your earlier covers are all crap, the latest one is kind of good. The best covers are the swedish though.
