You’d think Homer Simpson would be a walking (well, slouching) refutation of Darwin, but actually, he’s a prime example of the miracle of evolution. At least, he is according to the opening-credit sequence of this past Sunday’s episode of The Simpsons, which featured what may be the longest couch gag in the series’ 18-year history. (Like, four billion years long.) Thanks to New Jersey Star-Ledger TV critic Alan Sepinwall for pointing out the YouTube link.

I saw this on Sunday and laughed my butt off. Great Stuff!!!
This is my new favorite “evolution” video. Previously, my fave was that Pearl Jam animated video all about the evolution of life (I always watched it with the volume off).
I AM BOYCOTTING EW UNTIL ‘AMERICAN IDOL’ IS OVER!
I’m a little tired of the overlong couch gags they’ve been doing lately. But I guess since they’re so obviously short on plot and jokes, they need to fill up the time.
Ugh… The Simpsons has been dead for the past like 8 seasons now. When are they going to bury it already? It’s such a sad shadow of the great show it used to be.
Best…show…ever!
Sorry, I don’t care if it is a shell of what it used to be. On it’s worst day, it is STILL 10 times better than any freaking reality television.
I hope it runs for another 18 years. Peace…and eat my shorts.
hysterical, and i love skinner’s mom dropping in and the other characters’ cameos to make it truly simpsons-esque. but to be a downer, doesn’t it remind you of the intro to the Dilbert tv show?

the simpsons intro is much longer and of course tons of fun, but a tad borrowed, no?
Saying any show is 10x better than reality TV is like saying someone is 10x smarter than Homer.
Hilarious!
Wow!!!!!!!!!That was amazing!!!!!!!!I don’t really watch The Simpsons that much, but that was just so cool!!!!!!!!!
Once again, another brilliant couch gag from the folks over at The Simpsons. I love the inspirational music as Homer transforms from caveman to the current Homer that we all know and love. I really should start watching the show in preparation for the movie this summer. The gag also got me wondering if the movie will follow the format of the TV episodes, with the entire intro from the push-in towards Bart and the school and ending with a huge couch gag. I mean, that’s gotta be the couch gag to top all couch gags. A couple of years ago, they had another brilliant one where it spans the entire universe and ends up being like, a bead of sweat or something on Homer’s brow. That was pretty cool.
That was pretty cool, my favorite part was Moe Devolving.
i am one of those die-hards who never stopped watching simply because i could never bring myself to walk away from such a genius show. i’ve been telling everyone who will listen that this season has been one of the best in years. while that’s not saying much, it’s restored my faith in the universe. couch gag this week was terrific. homer’s groan after marge asked him why he was so late was the icing on the cake…

Now THAT made me smile. I’m so glad someone hates reality TV as much as I do. Very, very witty, that comment.
These days, Family Guy makes me laugh out loud more…but The Simpsons is such an enjoyable show that fox should leave it on as long as possible. It’s not really “can’t miss” TV but it’s definitely in the upper realm of shows I like to watch.
