So just when I’d finally come to the conclusion that, no, Madonna should not act again — late-night cable screenings of Swept Away will do that to even the most die-hard fanboy — out comes an ad campaign for the pop star’s new H&M clothing line that is wickedly addictive and twistedly funny. If you haven’t seen it yet…
Anyhow, I love this campaign so much that I would — no joke — tune in every week if the retail chain turned Madge’s stern fashion taskmistressbot into the lead character of a weekly network sitcom — think Sprockets meets Ugly Betty meets What Not to Wear. Just like the Law & Order‘s meet-the-corpse "dun-dun" intro, each week’s H&M episode could begin the same way, with a hapless fashion victim being dragged before a style court, where Madonna would ask, "How can I help you?" Cut to 22 minutes of haute-couture courses, mildly violent fittings, and, of course, the final "look what they’ve done" reveals, complete with silent single tears from the mute female assistants, and you’ve got the perfect companion to 30 Rock.
Plus, it already got brilliant catchphrases.
Madonna: [Slap!]
Wacky "Mittel European" sidekick: "I lah-ve you!"
And I love it!

Swept Away is NOT all that bad. I am of the opinion no one that dogs it actually saw it, because IMHO it is a lost mini-classic in the Madonna fimography, along with Dangerous Game. The Next Best Thing and Shanghai Surprise are MUCH worse. And yes, the H&M ad is amusing. I only wish we had H&M here in Dallas.

I saw this ad a few weeks ago and I loved every minute of it…This is Madonna’s best character…herself. I do love the comedy.
Is it wrong that I liked the girl’s “fashion victim” outfit better?
This is a rather humorous commercial. Thanks for sharin’ it Slezak. “I lah-ve you!”
I’m telling you, Madonna’s outward persona–the one used in music videos and on tour–is what spoils her movies. Her characters are expected to be subtle and quiet, and when she dials down, she disappears. But she can act, as her oversized appearances on SNL and this commercial attest. I say give Madge a half hour on HBO as an over-the-top diva fashionista and watch the emmys role in.
Don’t know why you would be so entranced with this. It’s quite dull.
have u seen “star”? the bmw commercail guy directed? hstercal
yeah, she’s pretty likable in this. she could play Vanessa Williams character in Ugly Betty
you know, if you like and want more of the s&m like fashionistas, pixars’ the incredibles had Edna Mode…very similar and funny…lots of “Dahlings” and “bowld” fashion
I thought that was actually pretty bad. not to say really bad. You probably also loved the oscars’ opening interview/montage? It’s funny, cause this is stylish and bad, when H&M stuff is actually not stylish and good…
I lahve it. she should have the the brother turned sister in Ugly Betty, imagine… that twist… but she could still do a hell of a job in Ugly Betty… GUEST STAR ROLE, PLEASE.
The woman can obviously act, but she—or her agents—can’t pick good material. Therefore it is up to me to write her an Oscar-winning role. I’ll let you know when it’s ready.
