Snap judgment: Elliott Yamin's 'Wait for You' video

Elliott_lFor those of you who’ve spent the last 11 or so months obsessively YouTubing Elliott Yamin’s season 5 Idol clips — not that I know anything about such behavior — well, it’s time to enter 2007. Which isn’t to suggest you switch allegiances to Phil Stacey (though he could certainly use your help) but rather, to report that E Double’s new video for "Wait for You" is now streaming at YahooMusic (and YouTube, too). And, better still, it ain’t half bad.

Most notable is the Extreme Makeover: Elliott Edition, what with those stylin’ longer locks (pictured) and flawless teeth that’d put Tom Cruise to shame. But those aren’t the only things that caught my eye about "Wait for You." There’s that glorious Angela Adams rug in Elliott’s bedroom (the very same one, I believe, that appeared on Jen Schefft’s season of The Bachelor), the adorable little birds sprinting across the surf, and a bathroom counter that features actual product. (Ten points for realistic set design!) Sure, the clip doesn’t flip the script on the standard feeling-angsty-at-home-while-daydreaming-of-lost-love cliché, and those shots of Elliott’s woman clutching a chain-link fence are, well, just odd, but the underrated Idol looks comfortable and confident starring in his own video — and that’s exactly where he belongs, no?

My obsession with this guy is borderline psychotic. I don’t understand why I never watched Idol, EVER! He has an amazing voice. Why didn’t he win Idol?

  • meredith

michael, I know how much you love Elliott, were you so freakin’ frakin’ excited to interview him??
He’s so sweet and genuine. Chris was my fav last season, but he was a very close second. Funny how I’m not talking about THIS season at all. How sad.

  • Heather

He sounds great and the song isn’t too bad, but it really doesn’t fit this guy’s image. It’s a song that if I heard it on the radio, I would never guess the singer looked like this. Not that he looks bad, mind you, but it just really doesn’t fit w/this type of song.

  • j.fo

LOVE the makeover and the song gets better each time i listen. And, yes, he seems really confident – right at home as star of the video.

  • heather

I bought the album the other day, not having a clue what the singles would be, and this is one of my favorites. Parts of the video are way amateurish, though. (That said, I love Elliott in black and white. Hotness!)

  • Phil

Michael, I know you are a HUGE E Double fan, so I’m hoping that the album sells (if only to make you happy) & that this video connects with fans. I prefer the “Movin’ On” song, but “Wait For You” could grow on me. The guy has talent, and I wanna see him be a success, just so that he also outsells the crowned champion of last year’s Idol! For all of those hesitating, Elliott’s debut disc is well worth it, snag it on iTunes and get two bonus tracks.

Okay, it looks like they had a budget of about $12.46 (and I’ll bet I’m right within a five-dollar range), but not a bad video for that kind of money. The should-have-won singer of last season puts together a nice, pretty, simple slow R&B jam and, most importantly, sings it damn well.
    Best of luck, Mr. Yamin.

Elliot sounds great as usual. The lyrics sound as though they were written in the 5 minutes before the video was shot — how many cliches, generic descriptions and bad rhymes can one song take? He needs to hook up with some better songwriters fast.

  • Chris

I think he is so talented, and wish him all the best!

  • Tino

I always thought this guy had a great voice, but on Idol, I could not stand his taste in music (i.e. song choice). Sure enough – new CD and the voice sounds great. But the songs are absolutley not my cup of tea. Oh well.

  • Jo-Jo

This video is hot! I still can’t figure out which song on the album I like the best. They are all so good. Everytime I play the CD I have a different favourite, and they just keep getting better. However, if anybody can afford to get the iTunes album, DO IT! Elliott’s version of Whiter Shade Of Pale, is worth “double” the price of the album. The absolute very best vocals I have ever heard from him! His voice just soars up to the heavens! My headphones have done a complete meltdown.LOL!

  • AngELL

Actually I thought the chainlink fence was an adorable but subtle reference to all the thousands of female fans that stood “waiting for” Elliott at chainlink fences throughout the American Idol 5 tour–and the pointing at the camera, singing “you”. These subtle cues could enhance potent fantasies that Elliott was actually thinking of them in general, if not, in particular!
Very cute! Loved the video–and of course, Elliott’s performance!

  • Melina

I love the song and love his new look. I’m really happy for him and hope his album does very well

  • Taratova

This video really shows off Elliott’s eyes. Love the black and white shots-genius. Not over produced , fits the song to a T and Elliott is in it alot which I love. No fast 2 second flash of one pic to another . I hate that!! Elliott give some great vibe on this video. Expressive , relaxing and enjoyable. The meaning of the song comes through. I love it.

  • Ging

I love this Video and I love this Song. It is my Fav song right now. Great Elliott singing Voice !! 5*****Stars*****

  • the grendler

Michael — I have just spent 6 minutes watching Elliottisdebomb’s video tribute on Youtube — and let me tell you the tears were flowing like it was last year all over again. And his Wait For You on Regis and Kelly was awesome. I still miss him — he would wipe the floor with the guys this year. He might look better with the new hair and teeth, but you can’t improve on that soul.

  • Stephanie

I love Elliott and the new single. The video isn’t the best, but it’s not bad. The entire cd has songs that can be potential singles.

  • yellin’

I think that E-Dubs first video, fits him, his style, and his music perfectly. It is simple, classic, not overdone like alot of vids out there today, and it shows his heart, his soul, and his voice beautifully. One of the things I love most about Elliott is his geniune simplicity to do things straight up from the heart, no frills. Imagine not spending a cool mil’ for a video and still have it tell the story. Elliott is pure genius;) Oh..and the CD..BRILLIANT;)

  • Tiki

This sounds like an Usher song. Except he’s not Usher and he’ll never sell like him. I don’t see there being a lot of room on the charts for this; not when 5 songs a month come out and sound just like this. Do we really need another Usher/Frankie J/Ne Yo crooner?

  • Brucie

I have played my CD so many times already in my car I went out and bought two more for my home. Can’t get enough of this man’s voice! Love the video because you can actually see him feel what he is singing. You feel it in his voice but you can see him feel it as he sings. I have recommended this CD to everyone I know.

  • daisy

Will “wait for you”, always Elliott, so happy for you, love you always, My forever idol

  • jason

elliott and chirs were SOOO robbed, just like when sanjaya comes in fourth!! (c’mon ya’ll know it’s coming, i’m already sick)

  • Ally

GO Buy His CD – I am telling you it is a revelation, a breath of fresh air, just as he is.
Hope he outsells all of em!

  • nicoletta

actually i love the shots of the girl behind the fence…nothing odd there, it IS a music video afterall. i think elliott looks amazing in it and a natural in front of the camera. its simple and beautiful just like the song. i’m happy its not flashy and distracting like most. kudos to elliott…and i LOVE the cd.

  • Revvy

Michael- You are an E-maniac just like so many of us! ‘Wait for You’ is a great choice for E’s 1st single. It is filled with love &longing.Elliott’s voclas are top otvh, as usual and he can deliver a song like NO OTHER! He is not only my #1 Idol, but he is my favorite singer of this century!

The cd and all bonus tracks are definitely worth buying and get better each time I listen to them. I hope he does well enough to produce more music. I do prefer his “Trouble” style.

  • Dixie

I love the video, the cd, all the bonus tracks, EVERYTHING that Elliott does is precious to me.

  • Where Y’at, Dawlin’?

I am a Chris Daughtry fan, but I just LOVE Elliott’s song, video and new look! After Chris was eliminated last season on AI, I rooted for Elliott. If Chris couldn’t win, Elliott definitely should have. I predict they will BOTH be more successful than either the winner or the runner-up in season 5 of American Idol. Come to think of it, that makes Chris and Elliott the TRUE winners!

We’ve been waiting for this moment
for so long now not knowing if it would happen but it has and thank you
lord for putting Elliott Yamin on the
earth. We all cried when he was taken
of A1 last year, we weren’t going to
hear him or see him again but with our
prayers that has changed and Elliott
will be a superstar and artist of the
year. He and his voice are ‘thieves’
that have stolen our hearts and we
want more and more. His new look is
awesome but we loved him before he
changed but his heart and soul I can
tell will never change as he rises to
the top of the ladder to stardom. I
just hope he is taking care of himself
while he is on this whirlwind rollercoaster. He needs to rest and
take care whenever he can. He’s happy
right now as we are his dream has come
true for him, he never gave up and
look at him now. His cd is so great.
Usually you only buy a cd for one maybe two songs but all of Elliott’s
    songs are superb.

I’m proud to be a fan!
