The morning talk shows & 'Idol': Disturbing!

Real quick, because I am still watching Regis and Kelly: The performance of Bucky Covington has just terrified me with the possibility that someday soon, Sanjaya Malakar could get himself a record contract. And he won’t have to get a haircut first. [shudder]

[Mere minutes later...]

And see, this is why I don’t watch morning television: After recovering from Bucky’s performance, I tune into  The Viewto hear Barbara Walters confess that she finds Sanjaya Malakar, AND IQUOTE, "sexy." Um, EW editors? I’m not going to make it into work today. I have to spend therest of the afternoon coiled in a ball on the floor under the sink, getting up only to dry heave. Sorry.

I feel your pain Whitney. There is nothing sexy about Sanjay, and I’m sure Bucky singing on Live was like nails to a chalk board

  • Hello!?

First off, watching Regis and Kelly is bad enough, but the View?
I feel no pity for you…….

  • Not Again

RE: Whitney’s comments “I have to spend the rest of the afternoon coiled in a ball on the floor under the sink, getting up only to dry heave”.
Come on, Whitney, you should know better than to say that. Those insane Rascal Flatts fans might read that and start accusing you of substance abuse again.

Sanjaya is nutcase, a freak of nature that should be elimited off the show immediately.

  • Janean

Sanjaya wouldn’t be a bad-looking kid if he’d do something about the hair, but a 70+-year-old woman referring to a 17-year-old as “sexy” is enough to give anyone the dry heaves.

Has Barbara Walters been on the right side about ANYTHING this year?

  • Daniel

    When did EW.com become AI.com?
Seriously, drop the Idol obsession EW contributors. It’s kind of a turn off. I’ve been reading your mag and visiting popwatch for a long time but the constant AI references and articles are getting tedious. Kind of makes me sad because I love this mag and now it’s starting to look more like a glorified ad for the Fox Network.
    Ugh.

  • MOI

    Here, here Daniel…..
    They’re selling out….

  • cidigi

    Whitney-CHANGE THE CHANNEL!
Who care what these people think….
AI is dominating this mag-how sad
because it is really getting boring…..

Peter Noone was so professional about not dissing Sanjaya on his take of “Into Something Good”. If you can’t sing, go punk. Except Ray Davies could sing. Sanjaya sounded out of breath. It was as if he had about four pints of Guiness in him while singing Karaoke at a frat party.

THE VIEW IS THE BEST THING EVER!!!! Yesterday’s fiasco was the best TV in ages I swear to God.
Barbara shouldn’t surprise you. Today she thought Reese Witherspoon was Lindsey Lohan’s mom.

  • Daveylow

Well, you should have caught Elliott Yamin on yesterday’s Regis and Kelly because he was actually very good. That’s what you get by watching the wrong AI singer.

  • Not Again

Whoa, let’s be honest about something. Sanjaya would get his ass kicked at a frat party. Frat boys aren’t usually tolerant of the effeminate types.
But point taken on his performance.

  • Stephanie

Not again, good point. And my lord what was with the smiling? You don’t smile with that kind of song. That’s like putting mustard on an omlett.

  • birdgirl

As I was watching (hearing) Snjaya “sing”, one thought stuck in my mind…..”Hey, I don’t remember eating that…..”

  • karma

I really liked Bucky’s performance on R&K. He sings country very well. If you got nothin nice to say…..well you know the rest. If you all can do better go do it. Bucky has alot of fans out there and we are all very proud of his accomplishments.

  • Mary

Barbara Walters finds Sanjaya “sexy”? Well, She also like Rosie and thinks she is a fine addition to “The View” – or did they finally change the name to “Rosie’s View”? Maybe Barbara needs to retire! She’s losing it! :)

  • Not Again

Sanjaya should just cut the crap and start singing Rob Halford tunes.
No, wait, there’s no way he could pull that off.

  • mike

I turned the TV off before Bucky came on. I was glad I tuned to R&K because Howie Mandell was hilarious subbing for Regis.

  • Nancy Walker

I totally missed watching Peter Noone. Some songs are better left untouched, this is one of them.

  • Jeff

The song Bucky sang on !Regis & Kelly included these lyrics:
“Our cribs were covered in lead-based paint…still we turned out all right.”
If that’s what you want to keep telling yourself, Bucky…

  • Eve

Oh you country bashers are at it again. If you don’t like it, dont listen. I’m not too thrilled with your type of music either but I have the graciousness not to bash it. Bucky’s new video is no 10 on the country charts so he is doing just fine, thank you. Country fans are loyal forever…Pop fans ditch thier guy the minute he isn’t on the top..and watching the view? That tells me you have no class..

I’ve finally discovered the secret to Sanjaya’s fame. It has nothing to do with music or voice. It was the same secret that made Whitney Houston what she was and is (not her voice).
The power and attraction of anyone who is not controlled by the visible or goings-on are totally great, irresistible and amazing. Whitney and Sanjaya share this trait. They seem totally unfazed with anything (after all who told you Whitney is crazy for fame? but she got it, and gets it any time she wants). Sanjaya is the same thing. And people don’t seem to get enough of folks like this. People want to know what makes them thick.
Whitney and Sanjaya effortlessly seem to be mysterious, and honestly they don’t give a damn if ‘it’ doesn’t come their way either. Now, this is where everyone gets crazy or jealous about their mystique

I agree with Barbara Walters that Sanjaya is totally sexy. I love his long hair too. There’s nothing wrong with a woman that age commenting on guys that she thinks are sexy. I didn’t realize she was that cool.
If you want to get creeped out think about Donald Trump who marries someone close to his daughter’s age. Now he’s creepy.

  • To PmS Avenger

It is the Venus Complex. Women are not supposed to want or think of sex but men-well that is all they ever have on the brain. Double Standard.
