What? Four new shows premiere tonight and I didn’t DVR any of them. I am such a disgrace. No, really — to myself, for being an irresponsible entertainment blogger. And also to society, for actually considering my DVR negligence a problem. I mean, there are people who can’t afford TVs. And weirdos like this girl who choose not to have one. Gross! I hate her for making me feel like a loser… and because she would be absolute zero fun in my house, where the hot topics are currently the smoothness of Charles Nelson Reilly’s pipe-smoking on Match Game and how on Top Model, Renee’s "cool" new haircut has turned her from the worst girl ever to the hottest worst girl ever, and why does this make her suddenly tolerable?
Anyway, tonight! You’ve got the Conan O’Brien/Andy Richter project Andy Barker, P.I. at 9:31 p.m., and NBC can go to hell for making that the start time. Raines (starring Jeff Goldblum, pictured) begins at 10 — PARDON ME, 10:01 — on the same channel, and so does October Road on ABC. There’s also HBO’s Addiction kickoff at 9. (More info about all these, here.) Which shows, if any, are you most excited about? Which will you watch as they air, and which will you record for later? Ooh, and tomorrow morning, let’s use this post as a low-rent TV Watch for all four, and you can just complain your little hearts out in the comments, because honestly. Let’s not get our hopes up.

I have loved Bryan Greenberg since Prime, so I will def. be watching October Road tonight. I hope it doesn’t disappoint!
That girl who doesn’t watch TV doesn’t know how empty her life is.
I have no room for new shows on Thursday night. Just about every night I could squeeze them in. Thursdays are solidly packed.
This made me laugh: NBC can go to hell for making that the start time.
I’m excited to see Raines. And yes, my hopes are up!
Andy Barker, obviously. I’m totally loving NBC Thursdays–I miss 30 Rock already, though.
Me too on Andy Barker after Ugly Betty. All the other stuff on NBC is reruns. Woa is me about 30 Rock suddenly being all on ice.
Yo Annie B?! Wassup with all the comments hatin’ lately? Too disses to the section in one day sez to me that you ain’t so happy with us reader types. What geeves, meñ?
October Road looks great
Jeff Goldblum is the man and even though Raines looks only marginally better than Ghostwhisper I’m down for watching it tonight.
Leave my Thursday nights alone. Andy Richter is just not funny. He twice had his turn and failed. I want my Earl, Office, Scubs, and 30 Rock.
grrrrrr….where is my 30 rock?
I watched October Road, which was as sweet as the commercials made it seem. The main character is extremely likeable and the colorful minor ones, I’m sure, will eventually also be. It’s shot in lots of warm, orange tones, which I guess fit with the show’s title. The best part: MINKIS of Boy Meets World fame as – get this – nerd who gets picked on. I liked October Road’s twist on it though, letting Minkis punch the big bully’s lights out. This one already has a spot on my DVR. Hopefully it will only get better as it finds its footing.
Andy Barker wasn’t bad, but it also didn’t come anywhere close to something like the pilot for My Name is Earl. Sadly, I only laughed once during the entire show, and that wasn’t a huge laugh.
OK, you know what’s really, really, REALLY annoying about these 10:01 end times? I can’t DVR anything at 10. I couldn’t pre-set the DVR to record South Park. There’s no way to tell the DVR to stop the show a minute early (though I can extend it by any amount of time I want). I love Grey’s, and I’m sure Andy Richter was funny, but quit messing with my DVR dammit!
Sorry Annie, I have to completely disagree…even with her new makeover, I find Renee to be as intolerable as ever…just watch her face during judging when her nemeses (Jaslene or Brittany) get positive comments.
Raines was great! i looove Jeff Goldblum, i think he’s sexy… i dont know, the way he blinks n talk so soft, so mr smooth, i just like it a lot! Raines’ on my list big time!
Wow. How could a show with Andy Ricther, Buster from AD and the old crusty man who once played a ninja have gone so wrong?
Using “cheese and crackers” to prove how milquetoast one is was already done this season on 30 Rock, to a much funnier effect.
Sorry Andy, you were funnier when you controlled the Universe. Bring back 30Rock!
I saw Raines and I loved it. I’m a Jeff Goldblum fan so I’m biased, but the show had lots of twists and turns. I will definitely watch again.
(G, I agree with you – he’s very sexy).
Jeff Goldblum rocks! He owns Raines, quite literally. There is only one Goldblum in this world – there’s no one like him. He’s such a character, you gotta love him – his facial expressions say more in a fleeting moment than Wentworth Miller does in a whole hour of Prison Break. In that way, raines reminded me a bit of Dexter – it’s all about the twisted hero. Sure, the show had conventional moments, stereotypes, and the pacing was off, but it’s the pilot episode, so give it a break! Pilot episodes always are a bit weak, cos they introduce the characters and set up the tone, both of which I loved in Raines. I mean, it was directed by Frank “Shawshank” Darabont! There were quite cinematic moments that I loved, like the “pale L.A. beaches” conversations with Raines’ dead partner (who everyone guessed was dead in the first three minutes.) The established reflective mood with a little sardonic overtone thrown in also works. And he does not see dead people it’s just his imagination!Im hooked
I throughly enjoyed Raine but I’m afraid it won’t stay on the air for long. I found it a little complicated(my husband gave up and went to bed). I think it would do better in the ratings if it was on at
9 pm.
Hey Annie,
Edyta’s leg warmers should be referred to as “bell bottom socks”.
And hey, those are still stylish in Japan…
