So, what do Anthrax, Genesis, Live, Midnight Oil, and R.E.M. have in common? Apparently, this wasn’t much of a HeadScratcher at all. Not just because more than 100 of you got it right, but also because the answer was bald lead singers. Scott Ian (Anthrax), Ed Kowalczyk (Live), Peter Garrett (Midnight Oil), and Michael Stipe (R.E.M.) are all known for their clean-shaven scalps; these days, Genesis’ Phil Collins, who didn’t have much hair to begin with, is shaving his scalp, too. This week’s quiz was inspired by such cueball-crooner current events as the Billboard album chart victory of Chris Daughtry (pictured), R.E.M.’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and whatever Britney Spears is up to now.
Readers who finessed this week’s follicular follies are listed after the jump.

Thanks for playing, everyone! Come back Friday for another HeadScratcher…

err, Scott Ian isn’t the lead singer of Anthrax, it was Joe Belladonna, during the ’80′s and John Bush during the ’90′s , Scott is rythym guitar and back ground vocals. also Joe is now back as lead singer.
Neither Joey nor John sing for Anthrax anymore (Joey just got canned again)…They are without a lead singer. And except for their cover of “Protest & Survive” I have never seen Ian sing anything other than backup.
Correction- Scott Ian is not a lead singer. He is the rythym guitar player.
GREAT picture of Chris!
I got it right! Only the second time though. Doh!
Second time for me too, Ep Sato!
I qualified it as “folically challenged vocalists” because of Scott Ian (who is credited with vocals on Anthrax’s website).
Me too, me too. It’s my second time also, but this was a bit too easy.
Okay, Gary is probably in the same boat I was in – when I think of Anthrax, the only song that comes to mind is the band’s old school rock-rap mash-up with Public Enemy “Bring the Noise.” On that song (and more importantly, in that video), the only one rapping (can you call the crap he vocalized ‘rapping?) from Anthrax is Scott Ian (who was quite bald).
I ask all commenters to allow for a simple mistake from our obvious non-Anthrax fan / Headscratcher author.
This may sound like blasphemy to Anthrax fans – especially since I grew up on them in the 80′s, but I think I like the version with John Bush better. Anyone else agree with that?
A little hard on Anthrax there, aren’t you, Joel? And, pray tell, what exactly have you ever recorded that’s better, more interesting, more entertaining, or more inovative?
