Rorschach Test

Categories: Books, Movie Trailers

Hey, comics-to-movies fans: wanna know what 300 director Zack Snyder’s next project, Watchmen, will look like? Check out this extended (and NSFW) trailer for 300, which contains a single test frame for the long-gestating adaptation of the classic Alan Moore/Dave Gibbons graphic novel. The sharp-eyed folks at CHUD spotted the frame, which flashes past at 1:52 in the trailer, and Ain’t It Cool News blew it up real big. Watch-fans will recognize the inkblot-masked character Rorschach, holding the bloodied smiley-face badge that is Watchmen’s signature image. As foolish as it is to judge a film that hasn’t even been shot yet based on a single test frame, I’d say this looks pretty dang promising. What say you, PopWatchers?

I’m still skeptical that this story can still have impact after so many other more well known movies have ripped it off. (see The Incredibles…) And visually the comics don’t make it easy for a live action version to avoid looking silly but this shot is beautiful and a great start.

If “300″ is any measure, then “Watchmen” will be mind-blowing!

Is this movie really going to get made? I’m under the distinct impression that it is actually cursed. And will Dr. Manhattan be cruising around the screen freeballing in blue? And will the Nite Owl have perscription of cialis?

Popwatch genie strikes again! I have wished for and practically begged for the last several years on this very blog for the Watchmen movie. Now it’s FINALLY coming true. Popwatch genie, I wish for a million dollars and a guest spot in the Watchmen movie. Hook this spikle up!

I just finished reading the Watchmen and was blown away. I only hope that the movie is good. It won’t be as good as the graphic novel, I know, but still…For the love of Alan Moore, someone has got to make at least one good adaptation of his genius stories!

So Emma, did you dislike V for Vendetta and From Hell? I thought the movie version of V for Vendetta was pretty good (IMHO, it’s one of his weaker works), but the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was an insult to the source material. I found From hell a little blah, but ew’s reviewers gave it an A. That said, I’d love to see “the Killing Joke” made into a movie and will probably netflix the Swamp Thing movies when given a chance.
A little OT, but is anyone else totally psyched that Frank Miller’s RONIN got the greenlight? It’s making me giddier than a schoolboy to know that all the non porn “adult comics” are being made into flicks.

Maybe I should reserve judgment since I haven’t seen 300 yet, but I’m not sure I want Zack Snyder as the director for Watchmen. I saw his remake of Dawn of the Dead and was really disappointed in it. He added a bus load of unnecessary secondary characters just so he could kill them off and make his flick gorier (nothing wrong with that in theory but he probably just could have just remade Dead Alive) plus he lost all of the class warfare subtext that Romero had in the original. I don’t want him directing Watchmen if he’s just going to run roughshod over the source material and lose everything that made it great to begin with.
