The PopWatch Confessional (Vol. 6)

James_lJames Van Der Beek has been cast in ABC’s Football Wives pilot, and surprisingly, I’m fine with that. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he’ll play a rookie in the would-have-to-supersuck-not-to-
make-it-on-the-fall-schedule adaptation of the soapy Brit drama. I haven’t actually seen Van Der Beek in anything since Dawson’s Creek, and I just assumed I’d keep it that way. But here I am, totally willing to accept that he’s scored another likely hit show. Maybe all I needed was some distance between me and Dawson Leery. (I was a Pacey girl — weren’t we all in the end?) Or maybe I just required a reminder that Varsity Blues (pictured) was, in fact, a fine movie-going experience. (If you take "fine" to mean having most of the audience saying "I don’t want your life" out loud with him and clapping along with the team — which I do.)

So, PopWatchers, I’ve admitted whom I’d like to welcome back to the big time. Your turn.

Bring back the Coreys! Isn’t it about time for Lost Boys 2?

  • Phantom

Did anyone see his guest part in “Criminal Minds” a few weeks back. Freaking creepy, dude. “Varsity Blues” was alright, but I kind of dismissed him after “The Rules of Attraction”, but I think ol’ Dawson won me over that guest spot. Dawson always dressed better than Pacey anyway…

I want Get a Life to come back, or at least a return of Chris Elliot. Now that the Winner has totally stolen his idea, it’s time to see what new brilliant idea this man’s come up with (for someone else to totally steal).

  • kissa

After “The Rules of Attraction” I can’t look at him the same way…Creeper.

  • Patrick Harbison

Isn’t it time for the return of The Doherty?
Perhaps without the Brenda Walsh bangs or Charmed brow furrow…
Give this talented sugar mama her due!!

  • furry_tom

Ep, have you read his book, “The Shroud of the Thwacker”? Kind of a meta faux-tobiography like Bruce Campbell’s “Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way”.
Also, I liked Rules of Attraction. A pretty good examination of nihilist, self-centered ivy leaguers.

  • Richard

How about the bulk of the 90210 cast? Sure Jason Priestly had ‘Love Monkey’ (blessedly cancelled) and Jennie Garth had ‘What I Like About You’ (actually not that bad) and B.A.G. has done some stuff… but what about Gabrielle Carteris as the nerdiest Other? Or Kathleen Robertson as the sexy new FedEx girl on the Office? They deserve it. And frankly, so do we!

  • Chris

Paul Reubens!! He was great guesting on “30 Rock.”

  • Erik B

Meredith Monroe from Dawson’s Creek. She was actually pretty talented as Andie. I’m surprised she hasn’t done more since she left the show. It’d also be nice to see Thomas Calabro get another show.

  • NineDaves

i would love a good kirk cameron comeback. seriously.

  • Brian

I was watching Law and Order the other day, and Martha Plimpton was on playing a serial killer. I had forgotten how much I missed her, and she gave a knock out performance. Would love to see her in more things!!!

  • GOB

This article is just asking for a Valerie Cherish/Lisa Kudrow comment, so there it was. I’d also vote for a Molly Shannon vehicle, or at least hope for a recurring guest spot on 30 Rock.

  • sandee

Christian Slater..where has he been. What about Pacey, he needs a good show…

  • Phantom

I’d like to see “My So Called Life” brought back – original cast would be nice, but I’d take it with a new cast. Leto and Daines are obviously too big now to return.

  • Houstonian Jen in Baltimore

I’m ready for a big return by Angela Bassett. She is talented and beautiful woman who should be hanging out in the ‘Meryl Streep Club of Faboo Actresses’ by now. She brought the stories of Tina Turner and Betty Shabazz to life on the silver screen. She stole scenes away from Robert DeNiro in ‘the Score’. Did I mention she’s beautiful? Hurry up and give her something big and meaty, Hollywood!

Speaking of my so called life, whatever happened to the dude who played Enrique? I always loved having a namesake on tv, my first and only until Enrique Iglesias (and i still CRINGE whenever folks remind me he’s famous) made some hits.

  • Ceballos

Who would I want to see return? Why “the Mack” of course (sorry I still have that song stuck in my head from yesterday)
Seriously though, I’ll Cheri Oteri (in the right vehicle) comeback

  • Joe C

All right Patrick Harbison, it is DEFINITELY time for Shannen Doherty’s comeback! Maybe she could actually have a decent show this time! And hey, she still looks hot! C’mon back, Brenda!

  • marykate

    Ceballos = Hilarious!
That was great! Nice to see it coming full circle.

  • Beetle

    Corin Nemec, of course.
Brilliant in Parker Lewis Can’t Lose (a better TV version of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off than the Ferris Bueller show was), had the unenviable job of trying to replace Daniel Jackson on Stargate SG-1, and relegated to unfortunate Sci Fi Channel originals since (Mansquito!). Flipping channels the other day, I caught him on NCIS. The dude is totally due for a hit show.

  • Phantom

C’mon, Ep. Is the son of Julio really THAT bad? You didn’t even like “Rhythm Devine”? LOL…

  • Phantom

Speaking of Ferris Bueller, what about Cameron? He got relegated to some Star Trek spinoff or something, didn’t he (I’m no Trekkie, so forgive)? I loved Cameron. I’d like to see him get something large.

  • Markus

Kevin Weissman! He was the best part of Alias as Marshall, but he was even cooler as trashy club promoter/drug dealer/party guy on Felicity.

  • Phantom

Oops, it’s “Divine” not “Devine”. I blast enough people for grammatical and spelling errors, so I must hold myself accountable, too. My apologies…

  • McGee

Josh Charles. Granted, he did himself the disservice of becoming known as the guy who dumped Jennifer Connelly right before the Oscars, but he was awesome in Sports Night (and maybe the only person who made me cry in Dead Poets Society), and I think he’s due.

  • Phantom

Stop it, all of you. You know it’s time for a Todd Bridges comeback.

  • Stef

I would love to see Larisa Oleynik again. She was so cute on The Secret World of Alex Mack and 10 Things I Hate About You. I always used to imagine her and Joseph Gordon-Levitt getting married in real life, even though that would have no effect on my life.

  • Mary

Since we’re talking about Dawson’s Creek, why nobody scooped up Joshua Jackson and gave him a TV series of his own is beyond me.

  • Ep Sato

I loved pretty much the whole cast of Parker Lewis (the precocious sister, the nerdy buddy, the “face” and the big bruiser who lived in a bathroom), and really miss that show. It came out when I was a middle schooler (around the time of 90210, no?) and was good research for my high school years ahead. I can’t speak for anyone else, but Parker Lewis was my high school idol, the fella I tried hard to become and who I most miss in my grown up years.

  • mike

It’s good to see Lucy Lawless get another series. Hopefully, they’ll find a way to work her Stevie Nicks impression into the show. I’ve seen the British Footballers Wives. It’s way too soapy. Almost Dynasty like. I prefer it when they bury the drama under humor and quirkiness like the first season of the OC.
