Maggie Gyllenhaal (pictured, right) is reportedly in final talks to take over the role of Rachel Dawes (played in Batman Begins by Katie Holmes, left, who dropped out of the sequel earlier this year) in director Christopher Nolan’s next Batman film, The Dark Knight. I’m assuming we’re all in agreement that Gyllenhaal’s intensity (with a side of quirky vulnerability) makes her a better match for Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne?
Answer that question, then tell us which roles you’ve always wanted recast in other films. The line for Superman Returns‘ Lois Lane (Zooey Deschanel instead of Kate Bosworth) starts behind me.

Anybody besides Kate Bosworth in Superman Returns would have been a better choice to me. Maybe Rachel McAdams?
Maggie is a complete freak, but she was kind of hot the “Secretary”. Yeah, I think Rachel McAdams would be nice – to look at, at least…
I would have liked Deschanel in Superman also, but with the whole film so closely adhering to the original Superman series her “young version of Margot Kidder” would have seemed a bit much I think.
I’m all for Gyllenhaal.
I have to co-sign on Kate Bosworth getting replaced in Superman. Heck, I’d take Harvey Fierstein playing Lois Lane in drag over Bosworth (that would be interesting).
If they make another Wolverine movie, can we have Jack Nicolson play Wolverine in his older age? That character was practically made for him in the 1970’s, but the actor’s starting to age while the character’s still fresh.
RACHEL MCADAMS AS LOIS LANE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jen, stop it. This is alrady deteriorating into slapstick posting. LOL – funny stuff, though.
Gyllenhaal is an inspired choice, and is an inspiring actress, to boot. How about we give her, like, an actual character to play in the sequel?
Rachel McAdams as Mrs. Phantom…or Lacey Chambet.
I’ve always thought Rachel McAdams would make a much better Lois Lane. Kate Bosworth was so borning!!
I would have also liked someone else playing Mary Jane in the Spiderman movies. Not sure who…
I think Maggie Gyllenhall is a great choice! She is leaps and bounds better than Holmes. And the entire time I was watching Superman I was thinkin “Rachel McAdams would have been a much better choice.” At least she probably would have dyed her hair so they wouldn’t have had to use that awful wig.
Jen – you rock my face! That’s too funny…Harvey…I can just imagine his deep voice: “Superman will never let you get away with this!” Even Kevin Spacey would have a hard time trying to come back with his “WRONG!” quip.
As far as other key replacements, I’m all for the Maggie switch. She’s totally awesome, where Katie-TomBot, really isn’t.
the problem with Kate Bosworthisthat she is 23 and in the movie had a five year old….so she got super-schtumped when she was 18.
Angela Basset as Storm would have been much better then Haley Berry
Mark in NYC, I second that emoticon.
After watching X Men 2, my friend said the exact same thing to me and it’s stuck in my mind that Ms. Bassett was robbed of a primo role.
When Batman Begins was first announced, I was hoping Zooey Deschanel should have been the female lead. She’d be good in Superman too. Basically, she should be in everything. Maggie’s hot too though (loved the tattoos on her in Stranger than Fiction).
Katie is so retarded to turn down that role. Batman Begins was awesome! But according to her interviews, she now has to be more selective as a mom. Puh-leease. So instead she’s starring in a comedy called Mad Money with Queen Latifah? That’s laughable.
Does anyone else find it funny that Katie could probably dunk over her hubby? Heck, Webster could dunk over her hubby? Hey THAT’S what I would like to see – Tom Cruise and Ryan Seabiscuit playing one-on-one basketball. I bet Katie could dunk over either of them…
Rachel McAdams CELINA KYLE!!!!!! ZOOEY too good for Super Man Movies!!!
I know I’m going to catch some for this, but I miss Michael Keaton as Batman. Sorry, I’m a child of the 80’s…
I love supes returns but agree that Bosworth was a bad choice. Fine actress bad for the role.
I’m not a fan of Gyllenhal in this role. She’s too much of a hippie/free spirit for me to believe she’s an attorney working for the D.A.’s office.
Keri Russell would have been great in any of these superhero-girlfriend roles! Don’t understand why she doesn’t get more work…does she turn it down??
Does Kerri have her hair back? I really haven’t heard much out of her since she cut it off. If she grows it back out, we will all become obsessed with her again, and she will get more work…
I think Maggie Gyllenhaal is a great choice. I don’t think Katie Holmes turned down the part…I think they turned her down.
Natalie Portman would be good too.
I’d actually like Katie Holmes to take over for Kate Bosworth. She has the spunk that the Lois Lane character requires.
I’m down with Maggie, I think she rocks.
Also, Kerri’s preggers, but if she wasn’t, I think she’d be a good fit.
Second on the ANYTHING-with-Zooey-Deschanel mindframe.
Ugh, I can’t believe Kate Bostworth still gets ANY roles, she’s a horrible actressa and so blah (and her much too skinny frame is hard to look at!). Rachel McAdams would be good, love her.
I would scratch the entire cast of Superman and the director, that movie is calling for a DO-Over.
I’m a die-hard Zooey fanatic, but I’m not sure she’s Lois Lane material. Zooey’s certainly has some great chops for delivering dry one-liner quips, but she’s a little too laid back to play an ambitious reporter. However, I would definitely support the casting of Rachel McAdams as Lois. As for Maggie taking over from Katie, I think she’ll do much more interesting things with the paper-thin role, but I will miss looking at Katie Holmes (I’m like Seinfeld’s major organs playing chess with each other on this casting news).
Also, Keri Russell deserves more work!
