Did anyone else catch Oprah on Ellen today for the first time in history? I was so pumped after seeing the lively promos all week of the pair in a convertible and Ellen singing as loudly — but not as pitchy, dawg — as Gayle did on Oprah and Gayle’s Big Adventure (which I never saw, and now I’m kind of glad). I was hoping for much more Most Powerful Women Ever campiness and fewer conversations about how wealthy they both were. ("Cars are nice." "I like real estate a lot.") One highlight was when Oprah told Ellen "You always look so cute and fresh" and Ellen just laughed. Opes was there to promote two nighttime shows — her Oscar Special, which airs tonight at 10, and "Building a Dream," about the school she established in South Africa for little girls who have the light inside of them.
As for how Ellen feels about Sunday night’s hosting duties…. "Well, I’m gonna drink a little bit," she says.
What would you have liked to see Oprah and Ellen do together? Besides feign homelessness and wear fat suits, because the most influential talk show host ever has already taken care of those.
When speaking so boldly about T-T-T-Tyra (sing it like the Chiapet song–it’s awesome), didn’t you mean “the most influenced [by crazy] talk show hostess ever?
ellen really didn’t have to defer to oprah. yes, o is the “mother of the talk show”, but e has more than proven herself, and their shows are so different. o wants to change the world, e wants to make it more fun.
What is with that Tyra Bank vaseline bit? She needs to be institutionalized stat.
I was kind of hoping Ellen’s audience would play a joke on Oprah when she came out – they should have feigned mock exasperation and started screaming uncontrollably like O’s audience does when she gives them free cars. But then I realized Oprah wouldn’t be too caught off guard by that. Still, funny stuff.
Why did I get the feeling while watching the TYRA sketch that I was watching someone parody tyra banks parodying oprah winfrey?
She kept stressing her words, and inhaling large gulps of breath, and enunciating and blah blah all like lady O. But in a less flattering and believable way.
Yawnn.. And all of it over vaseline allegedly adorned with sworasky krystalz?
I had a dream about Oprah last night. I was choosing clothes for her that would make her look slimmer. Then we were in Istanbul swimming in the Bosphorus at night. Oprah was saying how Istanbul reminds her of NYC. It was bizarre. What do you think this dream means?!?
I was (pleasantly) stunned that Ellen 1) openly discussed her coming out and being gay – a topic she always seems to ignore while “on set”, and 2) a blatant mention of Portia was aired. Yay, Ellen!
