'O.C.' Deathwatch: What about the zombies?

Categories: Television

Summer_lThere are no zombies, silly! But that doesn’t mean Taylor and Summer (pictured, freaking) shouldn’t be afraid of them. Dear Marissa Cooper’s handbag collection in heaven, I adored this second-to-last-ever episode. The details (Taylor’s gun-toting acrobatics), the inside jokes ("Night Moves," Sadie vs. Lindsay, how much Johnny sucked, Ryan-Seth body swap could have saved the show, etc.), and chunks upon chunks of exquisite Seth-Ryan dialogue… I was a grinning idiot.

I must have played minutes 52 and 53, wherein Ryan intuits "thank you" to Seth without really saying it, because blood brothers (!!!) are bonded by a deep understanding and don’t need to verbalize such things, at least 10 times. I’m sure there’s nitpicky stuff to say; I just don’t feel like doin’ it. Some things about last night I loved the most:

  • A lot of scenes made the ep feel more like a thoughtfully shotsuspense movie. There were those The Birds-esque sound effects (wind, waves) instead of music that began most of the segments, not to mentionthe lone pelican perched eerily amidst the rubble of Casa Cohen. Did Ijust compare Josh Schwartz to Hitchcock? Totally!
  • Gold Medal Ribbon! I loved how the ice cream store wasn’tspecifically Baskin-Robbins, but Kaitlin used a BR-like hot pink spoonanyway.
  • Is that Marissa in the attic? No, it’s just Dr. Roberts’ oldskeleton from med school. I want to hug whoever came up with the name"Uncle Alistair." So choice.
  • Stricken Sandy in the hospital. Awww. Crisis Sandy, I’ll admit, wasa little over-the-top — I’d much rather listen to him preach to a fewfam members in the kitchen than organize a mob of dimwitted Newpsieearthquake survivors. Let ‘em rot!
  • The thought of never watching Sandy make an earnest point about schmearing ever again just made me shiver.
  • :*-(
  • Kaitlin clipping Frank’s hair with Julie’s previously mentioned nail scissors while walking out of the hospital! Ew, Frank, I know — but so cute.
  • Darryl, acquiring a $70,000 car and immediately taking a nap init. The pounding guitar chords during his section of the music montagemade his dive into the trunk even more rock star-like.

I can’t go on naming every single high point, so drop a few of yourown in the comments. And let’s get nostalgic — what would you pick asyour favorite O.C. moment… ever?

Best OC moment ever: Marissa telling Ryan “I love you”. Great comedy.
Best OC scene: The Caleb dying/prom montage with “Fix You” as the musical choice before Fix You became cliche.

    Great re-cap as always Annie!
One of my favorite moments was the “spiderman” kiss between Seth and Summer in season two.

  • Erin

I am really going to miss this show!
    Best OC moment ever?
Ryan telling Marisa he loved her at New Years.
The “Hallelujah” and “Hide and Seek” montages.
The Thanksgiving episode where Seth has both Summer and Anna in the house and they don’t know it.
And Vegas because i love the Vegas!

  • Jared

The one-two punch of the Vegas and the wedding/good-bye at the end of season 1 definitely ranks up there with the best. The season 1 finale was so good; the drive-away sail-away felt like the end. Not that I’m not grateful for the next three.

Favorites moments: Seth and Chrismukkah (1st season, given a name to Jews like me who celebrate Hanukkah and Christmas), Seth and Summer hooking up, Seth standing on the coffee cart, the Nana, Seth and Ryan list making. I am such a mess about loosing this show!

Where’s Captain Oats? Do you think he was crushed in the wreckage? I loved the Ryan and Seth scenes from last night. The tears streamed as I watched them sit together in the hospital. They have some of the best scenes together ever. There have been so many amazing scenes from the oc over the last four years. I love the second Chrismakuh where Kirsten through the vase at Caleb. Her performance was beautiful. I loved any scene including Julie and the Mermaid Inn. Remember when Luke was jumping around during the Rooney concert. There are so many good scenes that I can’t even list them. I love the show, and I’m going to miss it. Stupid One Tree Hill!

My favorite line of last nite… “Well… I did do a year of veterninary school.” Of COURSE you did. That was the beauty of this show. The fact that it could be absolutely silly and then make fun of itself about it later.

I still refuse to believe that next week is it…over..dunzo( oops wrong show)I’ve loved every minute of this show incl. Oliver/Lindsay/Johnny/Sadie plots…fave moment…I’m gonna go oldschool and say Model Home when Marissa & Ryan r alone…beginning of a tragic lovestory for the ages!!!

Although I thought last night’s show was a complete dud–I still enjoyed seeing it. I hate for it to end. As far as favorite moments: I like the one when Marissa is teaching Ryan to dance and his hand slowly goes down her back. Also, the funny dialogue between Seth & Ryan about the “fish sex” …oh there’s more, but not enough room to write. Thank goodness for DVD’s!!!!

So many but recently I loved when Julie and Summer were trying to pronounce chtzpah and when Summer thought she was pregnant and she asked Seth to help her pack for Vegas and he handed her a lamp. Fantastic.

  • Riche

Defiently the Season 2 finale when Marissa shot Trey, one of the greatest scenes ever and some awesome acting from ben,Logan and Mischa

  • Travis

I’ve loved this whole season so far, but, that was just an idiotic episode. It was so….”A very special O.C.” I’m sure that next weeks will be better though.
