Carlos Santana, restaurateur

Categories: Food and Drink, Music

Carlos_lFollowing in the footsteps of many super celebrityentrepreneurs, Carlos Santana announced that he will be opening a trio ofrestaurants in Northern California, all under the nameof his popular single, "Maria Maria." This latest venture is justanother branch on the tree of products by the musician, who already has a line of women’sshoes, a fragrance, a sparkling wine, instruments, and a hotel to his name. TheMaria Maria restaurants will "deliver authentic Mexican cuisine in anatmosphere inspired by his music." Here’s a sneak peek of what (we imagine) you mightfind inside.

Upon entering, patrons will be spritzed with Carlos byCarlos Santana, the fragrance. They will be given a glass of "SantanaDVX" Sparkling Wine, and serenaded by the sounds of Santana Guitar Modelsfrom Paul Reed Smith Guitars and LP Aspire Santana Series Congas and Bongosplaying "Oye como va."

On the menu:

Samba pa ti — an exciting appetizer of scallopand shrimp ceviche
Smooth — a sensual puree of black bean soup, topped with crèmefraiche
Cry Baby Cry — a plate of ultra spicy enchiladas
One Chain (Don’t Make No Prison) — the house special tequila cocktail… so good itcan’t be legal!
Wings of Grace — come in mild, spicy chipotle, and ¡en fuego!
Evil Huevos — deviled eggs, natch.

Indeed, the entire experience promises to be like getting hooked up intravenously to Carlos’ musical soul. Plus, all the food will be organic, or as Carlos calls it, super-natural.

    Huh.
    I…huh. I have nothing.

  • I hate Typepad

Just wanted to make it public that TYPEPAD is possibly the worst blog company on the planet. Cheers

Helin, you screwed up. You’re supposed to pose a question at the end of your post for people to respond to in the comments section. E.g. “What band/musician would you like to see open a restaurant?” or “Which celebrity entrepreneurs have gone too far in trying to make themselves a brand?” Then people with nothing better to do, like me, could impress our peers with our clever responses.

Man, that restaurant sounds good! Too bad I live in Florida or I’d make a reservation! I’m a Vegan as well.

RE: Maria Maria in Mill Valley. I was there last night and expected the Cantina but was NOT pleasantly surprised. I think the decor is very uncomfortable and the food / prices are way out of line. Charging an add of $2.00 for rice and beans? Which sucked as well. Bad move, Carlos!
