The other night, I was lucky enough to catch a super-early screening of Knocked Up, comedy wiz Judd Apatow’s followup to The 40-Year-Old Virgin. Yay (for me). Now, I don’t want to steal the thunder of EW’s critics, and I don’t want to spoil the fun, and I certainly don’t want to go on the record about a June 1st release that, from what I was told, isn’t necessarily finished yet. So I’ll keep my opinion and important details of the film to myself.
What I will say, however, is that there’s plenty to look forward to in this comedy about a beefy stoner (Freaks and Geeks‘ Seth Rogen) who has a one night stand gone slightly awry with a smart and beautiful entertainment reporter (Grey’s Anatomy‘s Katherine Heigl). Like T40YOV, this flick is filled with bawdy laughs, more naughty words than Jack Valenti would ever want to count, plenty of back-slappin’ bro humor, and a surprising dose of sweetness. It also stands to be a breakout project for Apatow regular Rogen and, particuarly, Heigl, who replaced the movie’s original leading lady, Anne Hathaway. Until now, the buxom blonde has been a regular in televised dramas like Roswell and in written literature like Maxim. But having seen Knocked Up, I’m starting to think that she might just have what it takes to make it as a leading lady on the big screen. Your thoughts on the matter, PopWatchers?

I think Katherine definitely has the ability to be a star on the big screen. Besides her stunning beauty, she has a great screen presence and some actual acting chops, which one can’t say about many of her contemporaries. Besides, how can you root against a woman that as a teenager squared off with the great Steven Segal in Under Seige 2…one of the most underrated action movies of the past 15 years.
Hey, Katherin Heigel was able to bring some actual depth to a couple of sickeningly sweet Hallmark Channel movies that idealize the pioneer days to ridiculous levels. (See the Amazon reviews: apparently the chief selling point is there are no swears and no kissing before marriage). But the funny thing is the KH made the movie sort of watchable and made her character rootable. If she can do that, she can do anything.
For some reason, Popwatch normally seems to choose the worse possible photos of the celebrities they mention. This one of Heigl, however, is stunning. What’s up? Couldn’t you guys find a fugly one?
Ms. Heigl’s pretty terrific – she was the best thing on Roswell and has certainly risen to be one of the top three best things on Greys (sharing the rankings with Chandra Wilson and Sandra Oh). Believe me, this girl is more than just a pretty face!
I fell in love with her when she was 15 or so in My Father the Hero. She defintiley has movie star qualities.
I actually saw the trailer for this online & it does look hilarious…can’t wait!
Actually, she is a dark blonde close to light brown. She dyes her hair, and she was on the big screen in a mediocre version of the French film “My Father, the Hero.”
Katherine definitely has movie star quality. She is a wonderful actress who just keeps getting better and better – and is by far the most beautiful woman in Hollywood.
Her work on Grey’s Anatomy has been incredible and she was very unlucky not to have won the Golden Globe recently. If she isn’t big screen worthy then noone is.
Katherine is movie star glam, she’s up there with Charlize.
On Grey’s she’s supposed to play a beauty who used her looks to become a doctor but she sticks out like a sore thumb. I think she’s bigger than all the actors on that show combined; especially that homophobe Washington.
yes she can, she’s awesome! I love Izzie/Katherine
Heigl is one actress that I’ll happily buy a $10 movie ticket to watch. Talented, gorgeous- what’s not to love?
Katherine is usually better than many of the movies she has been in. she has a lot of star quality. She was soo cute in the movie Wish upon a star.
She’s wonderful – I’ve loved her since Roswell (were there any other actors in that show? She outshone them all). KH consistently performs brilliantly on Grey’s – she can do comedy, poignant and everything in between. Can’t wait to see what’s next for her.
I’m positive she will make it! However since she’s working on Grey’s all the time there probably won’t be much time left for her to make movies! I love her by the way!
love her
