Comments on: Um… how are they going to make a sequel to ‘The Departed’?

My guess is that they are going to do a Godfather thing and have the sequel as a prequel, how Damon’s charcater became a part of the Irish mafia or how DiCaprio’s character developed, etc. Or they can focus on Marky, and yeah I forgot, Sheen’s character fell of a buliding.

You know, I’m not as enamored with The Departed as everyone else seems to be, but I still enjoyed it. And speaking of spoilers, I knew pretty much everything that was going to happen because I’d also seen (more than a few times, mind you) a little movie called INFERNAL AFFAIRS.

As the guy who mentioned the lack of a Spoiler Alert in the first place, my main complaint is that major spoilers were posted on the main Popwatch page, in a very short article. I couldn’t avoid it. It’s one thing to post an alert and ruin the end of a movie after clicking “Continue Reading” (just like PopWatch does for seemingly Every Other Article now–why not this one??). In an age where DVD rules and the biggest night in cinema is still weeks away, it’s inexcuseable.
Yes, a good movie is a good movie: I’ll be seeing “The Departed” soon, just as I planned. The movie isn’t “ruined”–but my ability to appreciate the surprise and gravity of such an ending has been.
Besides, word on the street is that Mark Wahlberg’s character is jarringly and painfully erased in the first five minutes of the sequel. Oh–whoops. Spoiler Alert. Well jeez, there–why were you reading comments about the sequel if you didn’t want to know info about the sequel?? Whiner.

Call me crazy….but youre supposed to have seen it by the time the Oscars come around…OK- fine: You have three weeks to watch any and all movies that may win an Academy Award. After that, we all have perfect liberty to talk and write all we want about any of those movies. Maybe you shold turn off your Internet until you find time to catch up…

LOL at Ummmmm! Makes total sense to me. A good movie is a good movie – even if you know the ending – I certainly wouldn’t walk into Bobby expecting to be surprised by an assassination.

Why would you read a story about a movie’s SEQUEL if you didn’t anticipate plot points being brought up? I think one’s interest about what happens in the next movie trumps the revelations of any “spoilers” for the original movie. Call me crazy!

Jasmine, I totally agree. Who would have thought that Marky Mark would make such lasting contributions to popular culture? Between Entourage (he produces it), and his roles in Invincible and the Departed, the man had a fantastic 2006. He also keeps giving me reasons to put my foot in my mouth for having ever doubted his acting ability after Planet of the Apes.

Mark Wahlberg’s character is ripe for a movie of it’s own. I’d definately go see it. Obviously people love his performance and his character, as evident by him being the only Departed acting nominee.

back to the point. a sequel would be dumb. even more so if scorsese doesn’t do it. a prequel would make sense though, maybe about jack nicholson’s character
