Mike – “Child actors normally are irritating, but she was endearing and totally charismatic. As for best actress…that’s all.”
The Academy should have a separate category for child actors (Breakthrough Child actors or Outstanding Child Actor). They shouldln’t be competing with adults.
There were some amazing child performances including Jaden Smith – Will Smith’s boy.
I’m not sure I’d call anything about Abigail Breslin precocious. It was almost the fact that she wasn’t precocious, like say, a Dakota Fanning, that made the performance refreshing. How she managed to pull off simultaneously knowing that she could win if she really tried and also knowing there just never was anything close to a chance without seeming self-aware or adultlike was amazing.
What did Abigal Breslin even do in that movie except scream really loud and do a goofy Napoleon like dance? When did we start nominate for being cute?

I completely agree. And if there were such a catagory I would give the award to Jaden Smith rather than Abigail Breslin. I just find her irritating and mediocre.
Fatima,
Give the kid a break, she did a great job in Little Miss Sunshine. She showed emotion and was very funny. Maybe not enought to get an Oscar nod but let’s be honest Jennifer Hudson isn’t that deserving either. She has a good voice but that’s about it. I’m pretty sure she will win the Oscar but if I had to pick I would give it Cate. After the Oscar, let some time go by and we’ll never hear about Jennifer Hudson again.
Oh how I would love a few surprises at the Oscars. The Departed and Scorcese, Ryan Gosling (squeaking through in a freak Forest and Peter cancelling each other out thingie – like Adrian Brody did up against Daniel Day and Jack Nicholson), okay let’s give it to Helen cuz she rocks, Marky Mark and Abigail Breslin. Never gonna happen though…
I have absolutely NO INTENTION of watching this farce of an Awards Show, this year, or anytime in the foreseeable future. After last year’s totally “contrived” Best Picture Oscar result, I have lost all respect for the Academy, (as a whole, not individual members) and consider their decisions as to what constitutes an “Oscar-worthy” film as totally irrelevant and not even worth consideration. If I could watch the INDEPENDENT SPIRIT AWARDS, which take place the day before, I would. As this is a more true representation of what an Awards show should be, as it is a somewhat “low-key” and more “honest” affair.
Myself, and countless others have chosen not to waist our valuable time with the shameless travesty that has become the Academy Awards Show. I, for one, and I know several others as well, will be spending our Sunday evening in more enjoyable and profitable pursuits, such as watching last year’s TRUE BEST PICTURE: BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN!
Sincerely,
Doug O’Connor

First of all the only people that are going to win on Oscar night for sure are JHud and Helen Mirren everybody else is up for grabs. The only person if they lose that will be considered a major upset and have the media, critics and hollywood in a frenzy is JHud.Now I’ve seen eveybody and these two really deserved it and I think JHud rocked and her first movie and stoled the show from a starstudded cast. No one expected her to be that good and thats the truth.
The only way I will be dissapointed if Jennifer Hudson and Helen Mirren don’t win because they had the best performances. And for people talking about JHud she had moviegoers at their feet and I was one of them anybody that can do that deserves to win an Oscar I have never seen that before in my life.
