So how about the girl who sang Jennifer Hudson’s signature song? Or the Katharine McPhee clone? Neither of them will win though they may make top 24. However even though they haven’t shown him yet, the afro guy on tomorrow’s preview looks promising! One thing I HATED tonight was how incredibly rude RANDY was. Not cool, dawg.
WHY must we be subjected to mini-documentaries of the auditioners’ lives? WHY not devote more time to showing the parts of the auditions that are obviously edited out? WHY was Randy laughing during almost every audition? I think I’ll wait for the week when the 24 “serious” challengers perform.
As always with AI< I don't watch until the final 12. No freak show for me!
I was overwhelmed by the opening shots of the tens of thousands of auditioners. “How many potential Kelly Clarksons or Elliott Yamins will remain unseen just so we can play ‘point, laugh and cringe’ at the mentally challenged or pathetically deluded?” Ick. Wake me when they get to the Top 12.
Aramis, I think they tried that during the Summer on ABC with that Canadian export. It was a disaster.
I found myself rooting for the “crack baby” after hearing that she’s from my childhood hometown of Madison, Wisconsin. Though the town’s more a pothead haven than a good place to score crack…
Yeah, I definately think Randy was very CRUEL. Trashing that guy who was the voice coach and everything. How is that voice coach ever going to get anyone to teach ever again? It also looks like they are grooming Jewel to replace Paula. Who is better…..Jewel or Paula. And how about that Juggler? Or that one who has been a fan of AI and practiced for months? She was g-d awful and should be ashamed. I can’t wait for the week when Madonna is the special singing guest in April.
Jewel. I did not care for her falsetto and changing on “Save your Soul”, I thought it was annoying, and “Intutition” was even worse. However some of her works are decent. Paula can’t sing, she’s nasal.
munchy55,
I thought that Randy spoke more them usual but I agree with what he said. As for the voice couch, he was horrible and has not right charging people for money. That’s not right.
Does anyone else think the crack baby girl from Wisconsin KINDA vaguely looks like a young Lauryn Hill? Her rendition of the “And I’m Telling You” was good, but she did identify the track as “I’m gonna sing Jennifer Holliday’s “You’re Gonna Love Me”! Now I know she said she was 16, but how can she hope to be the future star of American idol if she doesn’t even know the proper title of the song she is belting out? I’m just saying…
Wow! What’s up with Randy? Talk about raking someone over the coals! And people think Rosie is cruel! I have never thought the auditions were worth my time, and you never really can tell who takes themselve’s seriously, or are just wanting air time by making fools of themselves. But my husband had it on so I ended up watching enough to almost make me want to cry too, when that young 16 year old left the audition so genually upset that it couldn’t have been an act, and all while being filmed. The whole thing creeped me out. But it’s all about ratings, and I hate contributing to those by watching any part of it at all. But my love of the singing(some of it),the music, the voting, and the hope of seeing someone with true unique talent, will I’m sure, override my conscience when the ‘true talent’(jury still out on that one)emerges. They do sound better with background music.O.K, I may even snicker a little too.
Phil- Good point about the chica from Madison. She DOES have a bit of the Doo Wap vibe. Ironically, Lauren Hill got her first shot at Showtime @ the Apollo, where she was booed off the stage. So even those who got no props from Simon are not without hope, they’re just without free publicity and a guaranteed record contract…
This is my first time watching from the beginning of the season……..thses aren’t auditions. This is a FREAK show……I won’t watch again until they get to Hollywood. It’s way too painful to look at and listen to these poor misguided souls.
